I have been struggling to focus on the joy of the gospel, because of other challenges in my life but listening to this talk again am inspired and uplifted that I should focus on the Savior. God wants us to feel joy even amidst challenges. I am grateful that we have ease of access to the teachings of our living prophet.
What a prophet! He blew my mind when he said the Savior accomplished the Atonement by focusing on joy; Christ set a perfect example for us to accomplish difficult things by focusing on joy!
I love these words of wisdom from these humble and powerful men of God. Despite attacks from people around me, I am strengthened as I focus on Jesus Christ and on serving my fellow men.
A fine Masonic man, the reverend Norman Vincent Peale wrote a book that could have been also written by this humble doctor, prophet, president of the LDS faith...the famous one, "Power of Positive Thinking" ~certainly but ; even more so, ..."Enthusiasm Makes the Difference"...PURE Love & joy, Russell Marion Nelson...I will read & cherish your words of my heart...Amen, your convert.
I have once felt this joy when I frankly forgave someone who offended me. I believe that we can feel joy regardless of what is happening and not happening around us.
“... the joy we feel has a little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.” Much needed words to hear in 2020
"It doesn't seem possible to have joy ..when your spouse betrays you, yet that is precisely the joy the savior offers. His joy is constant, and will be consecrated for our good." Hit me hard. My wife left me and took my kids 2 weeks ago. The pain. The betrayal. The uncertainty. Joy is the last feeling I would have described this experience so far. But I know he's right. There's joy in here somewhere. I have learned a lot about myself and I have been constantly relying on the savior every minute since then. I have felt His presence and hand in this. I have been humbled and the suffering has given me something I will never forget so that I will never let my pride come between me and joy again.
I know that maybe you won't reply but, my father ended the relationship with my mother and now I pretty sure he is seeing someone, I lied to me and tell me that he is going to work but I know that he is not, this cause me so much suffering and I am trying to seek the help of the Lord but this is hard, hope you can give me some advice. Thank you.
6:51 @Diego Ariel I’m so sorry for the suffering you are experiencing because of the choices of your Dad. It seems to me that there are 3 primary sources of suffering: 1. adversity because of the conditions of mortality in a fallen world including health and others choices; 2. punishment in consequence of our rebellion and sin; 3. Afflictions that our loving God sees fit to tutor our souls using. But curiously, regardless of the source of sorrow, pain and suffering the solution is the same in all cases: Jesus Christ! His atonement, His power. His mercy. His healing. His light. You sought advice two months ago… I offer this as a battle scared daughter of God: hold on to the promises God has made. He is faithful and keeps all of them perfectly - in His own time and in His own way. Expect that! Hope for and watch for them to be fulfilled in your life! Second, nurture your faith. Faith that God is indeed benevolent and kind. Always remembering that His work and glory is YOU! Trust His ability to provide all that you need including the conditions you need to grow in stature and wisdom and in favour with God and man. As His son, the workmanship of His hands, you can fulfill the measure of your creation and find joy! Not later. Not at the end of your life. But now. In the middle of your refining process. Please trust His promises regardless of the source of pain - all things will work together for our good if we believe in Jesus Christ. Every injustice or blessing withheld now will be compensated for. Even our hardest, darkest challenges can become the conditions for our greatest growth. Yes, it requires something of us. Our faith. Our willingness and active turning to God, not away. Pray. Look up - focus on eternity and His plan. Reach up. Do the simple spiritual work necessary to be in greater conscious contact with Him. My experience and witness is that there is Help IN the hard! When we expect and actively watch for His tender mercies, when we live even more carefully acting and putting ourselves in places where the spirit can administer comfort and relief to us - we will see miracles! I believe God is powerful enough, kind enough, aware enough of each of us that He will make it right. Transform even the most devastating things into something good, even great! Better than we could possibly hope to design even with our most idealist desires. My working hypothesis (that I am actively collecting data on as I move through my life) that our ability to feel joy is in direct proportion to our experience of sorrow. That perhaps these terribly hard circumstances are the very things that are creating a capacity for you to experience greater joy. It’s a hopeful perspective and it’s why I’m here on UA-cam today. Listen to then Elder Nelson teach me again, and again and again. As I listen and study this 6 year old talk, I am recommitted to put into practice this type of focus He describes. A focus on the Saviour, a focus on the joy of redemption that will allow me to endure better, with greater patience, even greater joy in the very middle of the messy hard thing we call life! May these words find you, and if not you another fellow traveler, to comfort and encourage you to seek the Master Healer is my sincere desire… THERE WILL BE LIGHT!
I love President Nelson so much! I really needed this talk, and I’m so thankful we have a Prophet to inspire and teach us God’s will and relay His care to us.
I hav seen the bitterness of hell in the eyes and comments of a close family member who has rebelled against The Church of Jesus Christ, pride-enmity is at the root of it most every time. .
@Mailee Mae My answer to your question is: The adversary is everywhere, and HATES to hear our Prohet speak the truth of the joy and salvation Christ brings. He must seeth to hear the word of The Lord.
This talk has helped / is helping me through a really hard time in my life. I've listened to it and read it probably 10 times in the past few months and I keep learning more.
Prres RMNelson's words have lifted my spirits for me tonight. Hurts and rejections are intentional from unbelievers to manipulate and diminish our faith. We shall continue, knowing what we know, in joy of Christ. I call upon Christ when l need Him. He never lets me down...l am truly happy...l follow my Lord's Chosen...
THE WORLD TODAY. THERE WERE SO MANY VOCIVE AND WE DID KNOW WHICH ONE WE SHOULD LISTEN TO DO IT THE BEST ONES I WILL LISTEN TO OWN HEART AND TAKEN WHAT IT'S RIGHT AND GOOD FOR OUR SELF AND OUR FAMILY SO WE PRAY ABOUT AND AND THAT WE CAN GETTING THE RIGHT HELP.
Thank you for that beautiful, inspired message. The primary purpose of our existence is to have joy and we have the potential to experience joy in EVERY circumstance? Now, that's AWESOME!!!
This quote from Elder Nelson in October 2016 General Conference deserves special mention as it was referenced in FIVE separate talks this past conference (October 2021): Saints can be happy under every circumstance. We can feel joy even while having a bad day, a bad week, or even a bad year! My dear brothers and sisters, the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives. When the focus of our lives is on God’s plan of salvation… and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening-or not happening-in our lives. Joy comes from and because of Him. He is the source of all joy. We feel it at Christmastime when we sing, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come.” And we can feel it all year round. For Latter-day Saints, Jesus Christ is joy!

Here I am watching this in August of 2022. How much worse society has deteriorated. I know what is to happen in these latter days, but it still hurts and angers to see it.😢😡
This talk was just what I needed to hear! I'm grateful for our living prophets and apostles! Btw... Does anyone know the name of the hymn the choir sings at the end?
How can you find joy when your child has an incurable ilness?! How?! That is not just a moment, it is a hole life of suffering!! Especially when you know that He gives the ilness as stands written! Only He gives it and also only He can cure it!!! It happens that sometimes He only gives it but He never cures it! So whats the point to give such miserable life to a inocent child, and how about the pain of the parents of the child! God's supposed to be good! So where is the goodness in all that?! I mean you have pedophiles that never pay for what they do, and we as children of Him we sometimes suffer such pain that barely can breathe!!!
My nephew has a birth defect that causes him alot of medical problems. Because of them he is probably going to have a fairly short and in many ways limited life. He is in and out of hospitals pretty often. But he brings our family alot of joy, he helps us remember the things that are really important in life and reminds us to value them more. And even though we may not have him here for many more years we are grateful for the time we have and are comforted by knowing this life is not the end of our time with him. We worry for him and struggle sometimes but we still have joy, and even with his struggles he still has joy to. I don't know why some people struggle the way they do , I don't understand everything God does, but I trust him. I know he loves me, my nephew, my family , and everyone else. I trust that he promised everything will be just and right in the end even it I don't know how yet. I hope whatever hardships you and those you love will lighten. And I hope you are able to find joy in your life to.
I want to be joyful in all circumstances. I love this message.

Best 16 minutes on UA-cam undisputed
Thank you. I needed to hear this message.
Once again, a prophet’s talk more relevant today than the 5 years ago it was given. That is a mark of a true prophet.
In order for Him to endure the most excruciating experience ever endured on earth, our Savior focused on joy!
My 4th baby's middle name is Joy. I picked it because of this talk. :)
Girl or boy?
Cool!!
Hv as many babies as you can! They ARE ALL Joy :) God bless you
I love this!

Agreed.

Much needed advice in tough times. Believe, stay strong, find joy in the truth, be happy.

So glad we have a Prophet and personal revelation to guide us through these times! How prescient this talk was.
How inspired our leaders are! Thankful we are for their sermons that are helpful for our very day.
