So is this the RK 3566 handheld you were waiting for or would you rather have some thing with a little more power?
I want this same device but with a 5 inch screen and I would only want to pay the difference between the 3.5 inch and the 5 inch screen🙂. I have a SteamDeck (7 inch) and an RG315P (3.5 inch). I've decided that the sweet spot is a 5 inch screen.
These are nice, but I am getting to the point where if it can't play gamecube, then I might as well have an RG35xx or a miyoo device. But that's me, I am mostly an 8 & 16 bit player and I kinda didn't play as much in the PS1/ N64 era and THEN I played a BUNCH in the gamecube/original xbox era. So I'll take a Miyoo, Then something that can handle full speed native gamecube, then hop me up to a steam deck level device. My dream device would be something like the size of the RG405, but with something like a snapdragon 845-855-888 powered SoC so I can play native gamecube and stream everything else. Why RG405m size? It has to fit in my pocket.
If it's the size of a switch light or bigger, it will need a bag. It needs a bag? it might as well be a steam deck. If it's smaller than a switch light and near an RG405m... NOW we just need up to gamecube performance.

I like the size and form factor. I wish someone would make something like this; but with telephony support so I only need to carry one device on the go.

There's a billion of these, yet the only 4:3 clamshell on the scene is the Powkiddy V90, and they just keep making more stuff but won't make an upgrade to it. Puzzling.
EDIT: 3 weeks later and the Miyoo Mini Flip has been leaked. Now I'm happy!
That's bc the AAA companies and the big 3 are treating their customers like shit, so they're digging their own graves. Just try to keep your emulators offline as much as possible. Nintendo just financially ruined a guy with the name of Bowser(family name) after sending him to prison. He's almost 60 and all he did was mod HIS Switch.

I really want one of these more affordable handheld, for when I don't want to lug around my steam deck. but these side by side shoulder buttons are deal breakers. some one needs to make one with stacked buttons in the $100 range.

For a little bit more money ($100 new MSRP, $90 on sale, $80 used), people should really go for the Retroid Pocket 2+. The Unisoc Tiger T310 is a better chip, and the Pocket 2+ has WiFi.

well retroid pocket 2+ the cheapest you can get in my country is $127 usd, meanwhile anbernic rg353p which have same chip as powkiddy rk2023 is around $107 usd
and since powkiddy console always cheaper than anbernic that has same cpu in my country (like 10-20 usd) then powkiddy will be better buy for me (and for someone who newbie in retro handheld, powkiddy is the start *like powkiddy q90 which become best selling retro console in my country because its cheap and powerfull at that price and pair it with onionOS it the best all-rounded retro console

You buy something like this over the Retroid and sure you'll save $30-40US up front, but you're going to be dissatisfied a lot sooner and desiring to upgrade and there goes all your savings. Paying a little extra upfront for much better specs is always worthwhile even if one has to do without for a bit longer while saving up.
Mini HDMI is awesome, but the non-stacked shoulder buttons are a no-go for me. Really looks like a very affordable option though. The display looks pretty great in the video here.
Still wouldn't change the RG353P for this. At this point, I'd only change the RG353P for an OLED variant or something similar with way more power.
Got mine for $66.99 when I bought it over a week ago. Shoulder buttons feel cheap but it's a great device for the price.
How much of an upgrade would you say is this compared to an anbernic rg35xx? I have that setup and it’s pretty decent although performance is a bit lacking in some cases.
Performance will be about the same as anbernics' RG353 lineup (in Linux mode), better than the rg35xx for sure.
Much stronger than the chip on RG35XX. Given the price to performance ratio, this is the one to buy over the RG35XX now.
If it was $60, I'd buy right now. $90 feels a bit high.

I don't know all the games - especially the fighting games as they do nothing for me; but the PSP racing game with the blue Skyline is "Initial D: Street Stage". I don't recall ETA playing it on this channel before. While the game itself is like 99% in Japanese, Sega had the foresight to make an English manual for export markets that translates all the menus and settings, so it is very playable.
Looks like a cool little handheld for a good price. I don't think I personally have a use for it as I've already got a Steam Deck and a PiBoy DMG. But it looks like something I could recommend to others.
I have a Retroid Pocket Flip on its way. Went with the indigo GBA looking version. Power + Quality (I think) + Price = The right purchase.

I really, REALLY prefer those parallel joysticks to the asymmetrical layouts, especially for retro games. The only time I’ll bend on that is if the joystick has the octagonal base to snap the directions, a lá the GameCube controller
That's funny. The first thing I said to myself when I saw this handheld was "No air,I don't like those parallel joysticks." It just comes down to personal preference.
I have light sensitivity, so I generally play at much lower brightness settings than most. Mine is set to 7% and it's still quite bright to me, at least indoors. I was able to get about 16 hours out of Pokémon Crystal on Gameboy Color before the battery was basically at zero.

The lowly Retroid Pocket 2+ from a couple years ago was $99, and it utterly destroys this. ( Unisoc Tiger 310 SOC > RK3566 ).
The selling point is having a clean and light Linux OS instead of Android. My RG552 does both and 95% of the time I prefer to use Linux.
This is actually very interesting. I might get a handheld sooner or later.
I like the Nintendo Switch OS look 🙏🏽the form factor looks great I bet you it's comfortable to hold and game on 🙏🏽

Suppose if you wanted wifi and bluetooth you could pick up a USB C OTG to USB3 adapter and dongle for a few bucks to run updates, scraping and theme downloads like so.. ?? Has yourself or anyone tried that?
external wi-fi dongle works just like the rg351mp.

20 years from now these pocketable retro devices will probably be running today's PC AAA games (Linux) and PS4/5, Switch and XBX s/x emulation games.
Considering they're able to play console and arcade games prior and up to 6th (Dreamcast) gen consoles.
That d-pad looks quite stiff, like you're having to push hard to get through menus. Can you confirm if that's the case?
hey eta prime i would like to see this hooked up to a tv/monitor with a wired x box 360 controller please that would be an interesting prospect my anbernic rg300x does not support controllers wired or otherwise, these manufactures are really missing a trick when they don't support wired or wireless controllers they would sell soooooo many more units if they did

Got mine yesterday and it was working fine until I got curious as to what kind of sd card they used…(it was an unbranded one) popped it back in, booted it back up and now there’s no system sound…tried the volume toggle and in the system settings…nothing…perhaps I corrupted the cheapo sd card just by simply removing it and putting back in??? So confused and irritated 🤦🏻♂️😩

Psp go shape, I like it
There are aspects I like about this device, the ports and their positioning of both the bottom and top panel for one. the rounded PSP Go style sides, just like the RG405M, 640x480 screen, Linux, stereo speakers, L3 and R3 (I'd be surprised if a device now didn't include that)
But... There are a few dislikes I have, the positioning of the Start and Select buttons also the bezel, Powkiddy, take note how the RG405M MASTERFULLY addressed those two issues, also the shoulder buttons are still a side-by-side and not a stacked configuration.
As for Bluetooth and Wifi, i can live without it, and if i can get a cheaper price without those two options I would definitely prefer it, especially with a retro gaming device.

Those old games are all 4:3 screen so 480p is perfect for it. Also those old games don't require a lot of CPU power. That's why it's weak as it is. No need to go overboard for no reason. Bluetooth is needed, not wifi. No reason for wifi. It's old games. Not a computer

Since the screen is so small isn't it kind of bad compared to a phone + controller for the price? I bet there are tons of people who have "old" phones they don't want anymore that are vastly more powerful.

That would be an awesome handheld to buy to play on the TV. It's a shame that it didn't have Bluetooth to connect some controllers.
RG353P can do exactly this and this is why I love it. I'm using it pretty much as a hybrid system like the Switch or the Steam Deck, just for retro gaming.

@@NickDyers 1) not twice the price 2) the shoulder buttons are reason alone to pay more. I've had an Anbernic RG351M before and this shoulder button layout is just horrible if you need all buttons regularly (true for some PS1 games).

I don't know man, it's just crazy how many of these things come out these days. I was just looking for one that is a) pocketable b) has HDMI out and c) bluetooth support. RG353P had me here. The display is great, price was fair. Don't want to upgrade it in years tbh. And well yes, I do finish retrogames on there. Especially if I have the ability to just plug'n'play on an OLED TV.

i like mine. it's my beater to take on the go. i got a new sd card and reinstalled jelos. the original sd card wouldn't update jelos. wi-fi works with an external dongle like the rg351mp. i paid $65 shipped. i feel it was a good deal.
**Update 4/30 It has completely stopped working. Power indicator light is stuck on, but the unit will not power on. I have contacted Powkiddy for assistance. I will update upon hearing from them about a resolution**
Where do you connect the dongle? And do you know of a specific one that would 100% work with this handheld?
connects in the OTG port on the bottom of the device. i use this dongle (TP-Link Nano AC600) and works great for me, of course it will depend on your internet connection and other factors based on your internet and such.
i also just installed Arkos to give it a try. so far, so good. arkos works well for me, i'm happy with either OS.

It's almost good enough, but at the current price point it's too much. If someone made one with stacked shoulder buttons and maybe a beefier CPU and at least 4gb of RAM I'd be all over it.

None of the Android handhelds can do PS3 because an emulator for it simply doesn't exist yet. Even though you didn't ask; the same thing applies to Xbox emulation too. You're pretty much going to be restricted to the PC based handhelds like, as the other commenter said, the Deck. Or buy something used.

The screen is only 3.5 inches, I couldn't imagine trying to emulate 3DS on it. If you're after NDS, you might as well buy a second hand 3DS and hack it.

That screen dimension is horrible. For the game sit might typically play this might not matter but the SOC is capable of widescreen games, which would look too small on this. There is nothing that sets this apart from what was already out there.

PPSSPP. It's incredibly well optimized and will run on pretty much anything other than the absolute lowest end chips.

Major downside for this is the fact that it looks like a very cheap product. Looks more like a poor man's psp go than a vita.

Too many handhelds being released it’s impossible to know which one to buy. I know, I’ll skip all of these and wait for the new Nintendo Switch 2 OLED to be released next year instead of wasting money on this Chinese crap.
Yeah this is cheap and yeah definitely "Chinese crap" but you can't emulate the kind of games that these can maybe with a mod chip if they're available, and this is less than 1/4 of the price of a switch 2 OLED or whatever you think is coming up next year. Not even in the same ballgame
