The reason for going with the Sasquatch is not the tire size. It's the 4.70 gears, it's the front and rear of the lockers. It's the 2in. ish factory lift. I think the front differential is even better.
Yea. This makes sense. What trim Bronco did you get? Most of the trims where you can't get a front locker it makes sense. I was focused on the Badlands which comes with the lockers. The standard gear ratio 4.3 is pretty close and I'll eventually swap out the suspension. So in my case, it doesn't hold as much value in hindsight.
Reminds me of food inflation: a can of chilie is now 15oz instead of 16, a qt of OJ is now 28oz, a pound of hot dogs is now 14oz. Companies quietly charging more for less. Btw, Rubicon BFG's are called 33's but measure at 32.2" when new and the prior MT's were called 32's but were 31". Maybe department of weights and meassures should get involved.
I can't see how it's Ford's fault that the Goodyear nameplate ratings state 35". They are simply advertising what's on the side of the tire. The real question is when changing the tires on a sasquatch to another brand of 35 do they rub at all?
The Goodyear tire is labeled 315/70R17. They also post 34.4” on their website. Goodyear doesn’t claim anything other than 34.4”. It’s Ford that calls it a 35. If you switched to another 35 I don’t see where it would rub at all. There’s a lot of room for the tires.
If truck tires act anything like bicycle tires (which I imagine they do), the rim width / profile is probably what accounts for the deviation in measurements.
@@DBCoffroad oh yeah Ford definitely dropped the ball with that one. I can imagine some internal argument between the engineers and marketing department taking place there 😂
My 285/70/17 good year duratracs are true 33.0 when I measured them brand new and that's mounted on the vehicle (4runner) at 35psi. The website also states the same.

It sounds like not a lot of off-roaders were into the import custom scene. Rim width changes the height of the tire. If the tire is on a 7.5" wide rim, it will be taller than if it's stretched to fit a 8.5" rim. As the rim width widens, the tire height will shorten.

Specifically for the Badlands you get: 1. Beadlock capable wheels - a lot of people switch to aftermarket wheels with a different offset 2. 4.7 gear ratio - up from the Standard 4.46 - I would argue is a negligible difference especially with the 10 speed transmission. 3. Front and Rear lockers - Already come on the Badlands 4. High clearance suspension - a lot of people switch suspension (Fox, King, Eibach, whatever...) 5. High clearance fenders - can purchase aftermarket 6. 34" tires - a lot of people will buy difference tires anyway too. Im no expert but in the tire industry they use a formula . So if you take the first numbers which is 315 and u do something with the second numbers which i think is 70. It sounds like its class action lawsuit time!!!!
Doing the metric conversion math on any 315/70r17 would still require rounding to get to Goodyear's 34.4 claim. _315_mm (tire width) is 12.4 inches. _70_% ("aspect ratio", aka sidewall height expressed as a percentage of tire width) of 12.4 is 8.68 inches. An 8.68 inch sidewall, plus a _17_ inch rim, plus an 8.68 inch sidewall on the opposite side of the rim, is 34.36 inches.
Always get the SAS package. I have a SAS Bronco and looking at new tires. Can I put true 35s on it without messing w anything? I'm looking at Mickey Baja Legend 35x12.5 17 $350 65#.
I'm running the bajaboss Mt mickey Thompsons 37x12.5-17 it says those are supposed to be 36.77 inches. I'm not actually surprised there is such a discrepancy in size versus what's actually printed on the tires I've dealt with that a lot especially years ago running various super swamper tires some of those run really small. I've also seen some 38s that are the same size as other companies 40s. I did some reading about this a long time ago and I think I remember reading about how certain companies use a tire carcass that runs small and others that run true to size or even slightly larger. But in my opinion it's very common for tires to run small. There was one tire I can't seem to remember the brand but it was either their 38 or their 39 was actually slightly larger than their 40. So tire sizes can be weird. Maybe metric sized tires are true to the size printed on the sidewall? It would be interesting to see if the true diameter matches the metric measurement printed on that tire or if those measurements are exaggerated too like the standard measurements. I don't know much about metric sizes.
Yea. I agree the sizes are all over the place. It’s just dumb Ford markets it as something it’s not. Metric sizes are odd too. 315/70R17 means: 315 = 315mm width 70 = 70% of the 315mm. Which is the height from the rim to the tread. (Basically sidewall) So that just adds all the more confusion. Thanks for watching!

i own a 22 bronco wildtrac sasquach love mine but sucks they put a speed limiter on it i was thinking maybe because the tires were z rated but now that they are only 34s well whats the excuse now???
So at 33.5" tall mounted, seems like those good years would be a great size for a 4Runner If one wanted a larger tire than a 285 but didn't want to do as much trimming as a full 35 would require.
I started with 32” and installed a 2in lift and Nitto M/T tires that claim 35” on the sidewall, and 34.8 in the fine print. I added the Ford Performance programming. I changed the tire size rotation to 593 per mile. My speedo wasn’t accurate. I changed it to 602rpm for 34.5” tires. My speedo still wasn’t accurate. I changed it to 611rpm for 34” tires and my speedo is spot on. Go figure.
I don't know but I'm going to guess a tires diameter, might be measured, mounted on a wheel, of THE recommended rim width and at it's rated maximum inflation pressure.
Yes. I agree… Sasquatch wheels are 17x8.5 - which is a wheel width that falls within Goodyears recommended widths. And the max PSI for the Goodyear is 35psi, which I stated in the video. Thanks for watching though. 👍🏻
@@DBCoffroad Sorry, I don't have a Bronco but in doing some further research it seems maybe Ford did some hocus pocus with Goodyear, to create an LT tire with only a 35psi max pressure. I had never heard of an LT tire with less than a 45psi max pressure and most are 65-80psi.
Has anyone measured an unmounted tire? Just curious what the difference would be with the beads not being seated inside of a wheel. I can't imagine manufacturers would mount and inflate a tire to give the measurements. After all, the numbers on the sidewall is for the tire. So it's probably programmed into the equipment where tires are formed and treaded.
A standalone tire would probably be shorter. As it compresses on itself a small amount without air pressure. (Think of stiff balloon). If you look up tire websites, they will usually give a Wheel Width range which they tire will fit on. Ex. 8"-10.5". They will also usually show the width they measured the tire on. The Territory MT was measured on a 9.5" wide wheel and has a range from 8"-11". The odd thing to me is that Territory MT tire is designed for offroading. And the overwhelming majority of 17" wheels available for offroading are 8.5"-9" wide. So it doesn't make sense to me to measure a very uncommon 9.5" width wheel. Thanks for watching!
They are always shorter off the wheel. I mounted the two like 10 miles used squatch take off tires I got myself (Beadlocks means you do it) and they are the same diamter as the other brand of 315s I have on my other 4 wheels.
I run Cooper Discoverer AT3s on my '22 4Runner. They are a 285/70R17, and according to the website they are a 32.8 inch tire. But, the other day I was curious as to how "tall" they actually are (even before I watched your video) so i measured them, and turns out they are barely 31.5 inches on the truck. Granted I have about 20K miles on them, but I was surprised that my "33s" were more like 31 and a half. I am sure the weight of the truck has something to do with it, and also the fact that I am running them on an 8.5 inch wide wheel. Also I know from research that not all manufacturer's are accurate with the real size of their tires, even from model to model. But I gotta say I was surprised. Not that it matters in the big picture, other than aesthetics since I've been happy with the performance of the Coopers. But.. still... I can't UNSEE IT lol
They will definitely lose some height depending on your air pressure and how much your rig weighs. Try taking one off and see what it measures. I’d guess around 32.5 or lower since they have miles on them.
Seems like all these company’s lie about the tire size. I think they should be held responsible for lying to the public and compensate us or make the tire the correct size they list on there site.
I think you'll find most tires to be off to some extent. Most 37s aren't 'true 37s' either, but in the 36.5-36.8 range with a few exceptions. Wonder if Ford and Goodyear measures at a higher PSI?
@@AdanGonzalez-bq7ht I don’t know. I Inflated the Kenda 35s I had to max psi of 65 and it only gained about .25” So I don’t think 10 psi would make enough of a difference
It's not just goodyear or ford. Take out a tire spec sheet. mount that tire on the wheel width in parnethesis on the chart. then inflate to the psi in the max inflation column. It will probably all very closely match the specs from diameter to section width.
Most 35s are 33-34 inches tall. And most 33s are 32-31. Tire sizes are weird. That doesn’t mean just because your 37x12.5r17 is actually 35.5 you dont need to beef up your axles.
@DBC Offroad it's more about the front and rear lockers, the 4.7 rear axle gear ratio, and the Bilstein position sensitive dampers. Most people with Sasquatch will probably swap the factory Goodyears after they wear out.
@@MikeKelly87 I guess I didn't realize most of the trims don't have the option of the front locker unless you get the Sasquatch. The Badlands comes with both lockers standard. So it makes sense for most trims.
I just measured the spare on my Badlands with the BFG All terrain. Turns out the 33" claim is pretty much spot on. (maybe an 1/16" short) I have been calling it "Half-Squatch" But now it seems like it's "3/4- Squatch". Obviously you should get what you paid for, but in the end just be happy if you like the way it looks. Btw, the BFGs are surprisingly quiet on the hwy, I was expecting some buzzing from that aggressive tread.
Awesome. I'm glad your 3/4 Squatch is up to parr. The issue is just the poor marketing by Ford. If you get a Badlands then the Sasquatch package doesn't really add much except for the wheels and tires, which I can swap out on my own anyway.
What’s even more interesting is that the Ram TRX and the new Colorado ZR2 have almost identical tread pattern, Except they are labeled Territory AT. And even the pictures advertised online for the MT are actually the AT tread. I think Goodyear made a 1-Off tire just for the Bronco. Still not a 35 tho. 😂
This is a common issue and some tire companies are worse at this misleading sizing than others. BFG is notorious for this, their 35 is really a 33, their 37 a 35, etc. I’m not surprised at this discrepancy with the Goodyears on the Sasquatch. This is true with metric sizing on tires as well. It truly is deceptive marketing and the local tire store I use claims there really is no standard to prevent it.
Meh. And jeep refers to their Wrangler model that has 315/70/17 KO2’s, which are the same size, as their Xtreme 35” inch package. Not really a big deal . The Goodyear tires suck and need to be replaced, but I haven’t been laying in bed at night feeling ripped off because Ford calls them 35’s.
I measured my goodyear new spare with zero miles on it with 35psi and its 34"...barely, what a rip off, thought I was getting 35" tires.....mounted on the bronco its at 33.5...
Easy fix would be to standardize tire diameter in the industry by having the measurement given on a mounted wheel size at a specific pressure - that way consumers could compare tires fairly. Instead it is left to the manufacturers and it's like they want to brag about their tire instead of being honest.
Oh man. I totally agree. There should be standards. The Goodyear site used a 9.5 wide rim to measure the 34.4”. Doesn’t give a pressure either. Which is weird because most Offroad wheels are a 8.5-9” wide.
315/70R17 is always abiout 34".mounted and I ran them on everything from a FZJ80 cruiser to full bead locks on a OG V8 raptor. If I were you I'd just keep those tirea and put the full real bead lock rings on the squatch wheels get a CO2 powertank and a winch. You can air down anywhere from a bit down to like 5psi to match conditions and will obliterate "lift kit guys"
@@DBCoffroad The measurements match the wheel width and pressure on the tire mfg spec sheet. Hey either way its the same wheels and tire size as a Raptor put on a Bronco. Nobody who knows anything lifts a raptor more than 1" or runs bigger tires.
There’s lots of off-road equipment you get with the Sasquatch package other than just the tires get the Sasquatch package they still look plenty big and it’s all covered under warranty still Jeep wins! especially the 392 v8 Jeep recon package
Yea I was little short sighted in the Sasquatch comment. It's a good package for just about every trim level and after more research, it's definitely worth it. Thanks!
Tire makers Say 35” but we all know, or should I say some of us know! Tires will be smaller than claim. It’s not Fords fault, they buy tires in bulk they ask for 35”. And really 1” doesn’t make a difference? Unless she says so…
Ford needs to get it together. I can’t believe that what used to be the most desired trucks and suv’s in America, is now the most recalled brand. Build quality is terrible, marketing is dishonest, and FOMOCO is screwing dealerships, and then blaming them for their problems. After owning 5 ford trucks and a Bronco, I’m done with them.
It seems obvious to me that the Bronco tires are specifically made by Ford for their junk vehicles!! That translates to NOBODY FINDING THOSE SPECIFIC tires ANYWHERE and attempting to buy 35 inch tires to fit will NOT WORK AT ALL... The 35's bought from anywhere but FORD will probably rub and scrape the body and ruin the tires!!

They will definitely lose some height depending on your air pressure and how much your rig weighs.
Try taking one off and see what it measures. I’d guess around 32.5 or lower since they have miles on them.
Here's another secret for you: 2x4s aren't really two inches by four inches.
Whaaaa?!?!?
Seems like all these company’s lie about the tire size. I think they should be held responsible for lying to the public and compensate us or make the tire the correct size they list on there site.
Yea I’m sure there’s variances in measurements and rubber type which causes the website numbers.
I think you'll find most tires to be off to some extent. Most 37s aren't 'true 37s' either, but in the 36.5-36.8 range with a few exceptions. Wonder if Ford and Goodyear measures at a higher PSI?
Yea I know most run small. It’s just interesting how Ford markets it as a 35. That’s all really.
My badlands and my moms wildtrak both came from the factory with 45+ psi. Wonder if that’s when they measure it
@@AdanGonzalez-bq7ht I don’t know.
What rig do you run 37s on?
I measured mine and it was 34.5 or just a hair below that. My patagonia AT/ R measured 36.8
Your Goodyears measured 34.5?
See that's as close to a 37 as you can get. Nice!
Mine measure 34" barely and thats the spare with no miles on it with 35 psi in it..
@@scottdarling1519 so i’m not the only one with the small “35s” 😂
@@DBCoffroad ha, ya, there like large 33s..lol....these tire companys are totally misleading on tire diameter..
The Sasquatch package is way more then the tires.... I can careless about the size of the tire.
What is the Sasquatch package to you?
I ask because after owning it, I’d actually recommend not getting it.
Sounds like a tire company thing
or Ford Marketing. 🤷🏻♂️
Yes they are. Saved you a watch.
Hmm. Must have bought different measuring tapes. 🤷🏻♂️
@@DBCoffroad no 35 measures 35 inch
To make matters worse, pretty sure the “M/T” doesn’t even mean “Mud-Terrain” either, although that’s how it’s advertised.
Damn.
That’s unfortunate. Are there any companies that are more true to size that you know of?
Thanks!
Your tires look like they've been used the tire size is not going to be what it would be at new
That's good. It's just dumb to me. Oh well. Thanks for watching
I measured my goodyear new spare with zero miles on it with 35psi and its 34"...barely, what a rip off, thought I was getting 35" tires.....mounted on the bronco its at 33.5...
Same same. Thanks for watching!
I went to my local ford dealer and yelled and screamed at all of them about this. And then the cuffs went on...
Uh oh. Hopefully on the sales guy. 😉
Yea I think they measure at max PSI. Which doesn't seem reasonable, since most customers won't run them maxed out.
@@DBCoffroad The measurements match the wheel width and pressure on the tire mfg spec sheet. Hey either way its the same wheels and tire size as a Raptor put on a Bronco. Nobody who knows anything lifts a raptor more than 1" or runs bigger tires.
33.5 I put the tape to it..... my new 37s are actually 35.5
Is that mounted with the rig weight loaded on the tire?
No one should be shocked at an auto manufacture's marketing dept. claims.
Sad and true.
Thanks!
Lol cringe. PSA. Almost every 35 and 37 etc are not what they claim 😅🤦
Thanks for the PSA.
I guess tire companies are following in the footsteps of the lumber companies😃
They must be in cahoots!
Tire makers Say 35” but we all know, or should I say some of us know!
Tires will be smaller than claim.
It’s not Fords fault, they buy tires in bulk they ask for 35”.
And really 1” doesn’t make a difference?
Unless she says so…
For as much money as they spend on development, they know.
They puncture super easy as well
That’s good to know. Thanks!
Toyo mt's are the closest to " true" sizing I've ran across in my experience. A 37 will measure 36.8
Good to know. Thanks for the info 🤘🏻
Mines 33 inches bro 😂😂
Imma buy 35x12.50r17
😂
Ford needs to get it together. I can’t believe that what used to be the most desired trucks and suv’s in America, is now the most recalled brand. Build quality is terrible, marketing is dishonest, and FOMOCO is screwing dealerships, and then blaming them for their problems. After owning 5 ford trucks and a Bronco, I’m done with them.
It’s unfortunate because a lot of people are starting to feel the same.
It seems obvious to me that the Bronco tires are specifically made by Ford for their junk vehicles!! That translates to NOBODY FINDING THOSE SPECIFIC tires
ANYWHERE and attempting to buy 35 inch tires to fit will NOT WORK AT ALL... The 35's bought from anywhere but FORD will probably rub and scrape the body and ruin the tires!!
Dang. Why so angry….?
Is it because I didn’t measure with the metric system in this video too?
Your conjecture seems a little absolute. 🤔
Thanks for watching! 🤘🏻
Lol, keep measuring tires. You will be very disappointed. A ton of brands run small. Not a big deal.
I agree. It’s expected. It’s just lame to me Ford is selling a bit of snake oil.
Tire measurements are cleared created by men. :)
HAHA!
Just like a 2x4! Measure a 2x4 from 20 years ago and measure one now. Charge more! Give ya less material! It's the American way
😂 🤦🏻♂️ sad days
In reality most tires are true size
I like the positivity. 🤘🏻
My Kenda klever is a true 33’s it’s 33x10.5R17 on my 2021 TRD ORP it’s bigger than 285/70R17
Dang. I should have gone with that size when I had 33s then. Thanks!
@@DBCoffroad they have 35x12.5R17 too
@@rupertgumban9251 haha thats what the other 35 was in the video. Ended up being smaller. 🤷♂
@@DBCoffroad wow !we’ll all this different branded tires are made in other countries, maybe they’re measuring tools are off LoL
