Porter seems like such a good and humble guy. Very good at articulating his thoughts and feelings
Literally the most wholesome artist I've ever seen..
So did Nick. Not trying to level any accusations, nor am I trying to say that a similar upbringing and similar genes always yield similar results. Just an example that's close at hand. You never can get a very complete picture of someone you only know parasocially.
I suppose you did use the word “seems,” which probably covers what I'm trying to get across, but I guess I'm just easily provoked because this interview already had me thinking about the whole situation with Nick Robinson.
@@iankellymorris It's literally been ages since that happened dude, and he was never really "proven" guilty either, they just simply banned him and the rest are rumors (not literally proven), and like you do mention in your comment as well, even if we believe whatever happened was true, it isn't necessary for two people of same blood to be that similar.. Each person is just different.. And Porter just, can't be anything less than a great, kind and humble human.. You referring about Nick here just doesn't make sense fr.. But if you're just here to express how it reminded you of the whole situation with Nick, you're welcome to say that.. But I get how you tried to relate the two things, so that literally wasn't necessary and I think there will be many people who agree with me here..
@@cloudscape5996 Nick who??
Not gonna tag anyone cuz I’m not tryna start a fight, but the allegations against Nick Robinson which surfaced mid-2017 are absolutely credible (considering he has admitted to misconduct and apologized for it) and failing to fully acknowledge even admitted SH & SA offenders is a huge part of the reason victims feel uncomfortable coming forward. Also maybe the comments of an interview of his little brother about his second full-length album isn’t the best venue to be discussing this?
Did anyone have the chicken? I thought the chicken was lovely!
Honestly man, bless Porter for being so open about his insecurities as a musician. I feel like he's speaking directly to me and saving me years of self-doubt and unnecessary worry. It's weird how similarly he and I think about life

The fact that Porter, a Grammy nominated artist, had to Google "how to write song lyrics" when making this album is one of the most poignant examples of impostor syndrome I've ever seen.
...that's not imposter syndrome?
@@heckicusdoomicuswizardus1382 not to my understanding of it. I don’t see seeking out improvement to be a sign of imposter syndrome no matter the level of profession. The way I understand it is, say, if he made the improvements, released the album, and still felt unworthy or like a fraud.

Porter's soft "Aww..." at 28:22 just hits me. You can tell this guy loves music, just the thought of someone else feeling like they were going to hate music forever hit him in the feels. This is an amazingly vulnerable interview on both parties, and it made me that just more attached to Nurture and also helped me feel like I'm not alone in this thing called life when it gets tough. Thank you both!
He said "no"?
Sounds very much like "oww"/"aww" to me, but I think even if it would've been "noo", the meaning implied through his stressing of the sound stays the same. @@kev9514

@@Gothstana Stans gonna stan. I'm a huge Porter fan, and I disagreed with Fantano's review of Worlds, but that's kinda the point of subjectivity and opinion when it comes to artistic endeavors. This feels obsessive, but I come back to this interview a lot when I'm feeling down on creative projects. I love listening to both Porter and Fantano talking, I feel like they're very well spoken in accentuating a lot of what creative processes are like, and the understanding is there from even the critical side of Fantano.
Dude same idk why I come back here so often. I just like hearing porter talk, it's inspirational to me for some reason.
Idk if anyone else has experienced this but I still haven’t listened to Nurture entirely in one sitting. It’s almost too pure and emotional that I need to take breathers. Songs like Mother really hit hard that I had to digest it for a while afterwards.
No I feel this. I'm waiting for the vinyl to come in to really be able to separate the sounds and lyrics. I know that I'm definitely going to need a lyrics page though.
Yeah same. You have to digest it slowly

I...Agree
Porter has evolved exponentially since some of my favorite electro house bangers he released a decade ago. PR inspired me to DJ after hearing he used a Traktor S4!! Man he doesn't even seem like the same EDM titan he used to be, big aficionado energy
I think it speaks volumes about porters values, specifically how highly he cherishes music, when he speaks of the necessity of talking about the themes he does on nurture, to Anthony's work as a critic, to even how he sees the interview as something he has to do. It's apparent he wants what's best for the future of music and to inspire the musicians of the future
Wasn't expecting this, (esp after the worlds review lmao), but I'm so happy it happened. So much of what he's saying I've had similar struggles with growing up/falling in love/coming to terms with self and this has been very cathartic to listen to. Thank you ❤️

Okay, apparently the next thing to expect from Porter is a new project, which will be called Lil Potaro

this is my favorite fantano interview so far. This made me like porter a lot more than his music does (although I actually liked nurture a lot more than i expected to!) he's super smart and introspective and insightful and i related to a lot of the things he said. Fantano has 100+ interviews on this channel and this one with Porter is the longest one. And that makes so much sense, they both talked so well with each other and kept getting into conversations they were really passionate about. I mean, Fantano started to say goodbye at 1:28:40, and they continued to talk for another 8 minutes! This was such a wonderful interview!

the wolf children soundtrack is so good. I've had tanememi on repeat for so long. After listening to both, the inspiration is kind of clear. Porter really came through with a great album.
He almost sounds a lot like bo burnham and his struggle with his purpose in art. I feel like it would be super interesting to see the two talk.
Damn this is a good interview
17:07 this is so damn true, I nitpick everything in my tracks, it holds me back more than anything.
love at 1:05:38 how he talks about not wanting to use 808 drums and even more specifically the "Amen Break" for Nurture, but ultimately breaking rules like that in Musician by using some breaks and samples, and how he wishes to embrace more feelings of creative freedom with sounds like that on whatever his next record would be... funny to see him really actually stick to that, considering you can her the Amen Break in his new song Cheerleader off of the new upcoming album, "SMILE :D". porter is a man of his word
Yoooo Porter name dropped Masakatsu Takagi lets go. Makes a lot more sense now considering Nurture legitimately sounds like if Masakatsu Takagi made EDM.

Porter's openness and honesty really makes it easy to connect with him, seems like a nice guy 🙏
The way Porter talked about Musician is the same way he talked about Flicker and oh my god I feel the fun and expression throughout both songs
I'm absolutely losing my mind at how he cited Wolf Children as his influence to take music in a more intimate direction. The first anime movie I ever watched, influenced the first electronic artist I ever listened to, to create one of my favorite albums. Full circle!
When did he say that!?!?!??!?!!?!??!
EDM FANTANO, LETS GOOO
I love Porter, he is such a talented and authentic guy, I'm so glad I came across his music
I wasn't interested in Porter Robinson since the release of Worlds; but I've heard nothing but good stuff about his music since. I think I should break the mold and give Nurture a listen.
Update: I made it through the entire album, and I gotta say; I'm impressed. Not because of his overall talent (that was never in doubt), but rather the execution on Nurture. Porter Robinson's style of electronic music is typically not something I enjoy, and yet, I enjoyed the album.
It's such a feel-good album all around the board, and a drop of glitch to influence the listener to not get totally relaxed through each song.
While I'm not a fan of glitch, Porter Robinson executes it near-perfectly, if not, perfectly throughout the album. The only song I guess I didn't really care for on the album is 'Wind Tempos'. It's a pretty nice track for the first four minutes until towards the end when Porter decides to loop and overlap the vocal track so suddenly. While I do appreciate it coming from out of nowhere, the execution made me laugh hysterically because it reminded me of Club Banger 3000 by Pink Guy. 'dullscythe' was somewhat similar except it's the instrumentals that are glitching, but not overlapping. Adding on to it, the beat finds itself in the second-half, coming in clutch.
Porter Robinson said in this interview (if I remember correctly; I'm just here to edit this comment) that his biggest fear is to be misunderstood. He did a really good job to insure that he would not be misunderstood. I listened to every track in the way or close to the way Porter would want his fans to listen to it, other than the previously mentioned 'Wind Tempos'. Almost each song has a similar atmosphere from one another. From an outsider standpoint, when you're as5-deep into this album, you're like "alright, Porter, we get it" but at the same time, you never get sick of it.
My first exposure to Porter Robinson was underwhelming at first exposure, thanks to his popular single 'Shelter'. However, with a much more open mind, I have another chance because I've heard nothing but good stuff about him since. I think Anthony's 8/10 is just about right for this album. Almost every song is good or great. There is not one (necessarily) bad song on this thing.
This album is the audio equivalent of unexpectingly taking in a deep breath of air past your regular lung capacity and exhaling longer than you normally should.
It just a free-spirited, uplifting album.
My fav tracks: Look at the Sky, Get Your Wish, Musician, Dullscythe, Sweet Time, Mirror, Something Comforting, Unfold, Trying to Feel Alive
My least fav: Wind Tempos (it still wasn't horrible; it was just distracting towards the end)
Strong 8 - Light 9
Love it.
It's in my top 3 albums of the year thus far.
I posted it on one of the streams of the album, but I'll say it at again here. As someone who preferred and loved his older electro work like 'Say My Name' and 'Spitfire' and 'Language' more, I never really got the point of 'Worlds' when it came out; thought it was a bit boring and overrated. But after hearing all the positive thoughts, even from Fantano himself, on this new record, I decided to try it out, and fuuuuck it is so damn good. The music, the composition, the production, the fucking vocals and lyrics brought me to tears at some points because of how much they related to me. It might be favorite album of the year so far. It really is an amazing album and I could not recommend it more. Solid 9/10 for me, teetering very close to a 10/10.
I had a very similar experience, Never been a big electronic guy and i just listened thru this album for the first time today, Funny enough Wind Tempos was BY FAR my favorite track on the whole album. The piano part is just perfection and imo the vocal sampling at the end hits so hard i absolutely loved it. Dullsythe, Blossom and Mirrors were also among my favs. Overall really enjoyed this project, Just has a certain vibe i cant explain but gives me a very comforting feeling.

59:40 I have encouragement for those who are ACTIVELY pursuing music.
Historically speaking, cultures are remembered and even learned about by future generations by 1. Simple historical documentation and 2. Artistic contribution/documentation.
By making music and art that is honest, you are live documenting the progression of your culture and furthering it through self expression in your own voice. That shit is worth it. Very few corporations ever last the test of time that artists do, just saying. It's just not rewarded/valued in American society, American society values labor output and monetary gain over/at the expense of cultural commodification.
So yes, you and Porter are making something beautiful that serves a bigger purpose. It's worth it. Keep going. ❤❤
