My husband wrote one of the articles you referenced (the Paesana one) and he is a huge fan! He watches you and follows your recipes all the time ☺️
How cool!
This man is a national treasure. Can’t get enough of these pasta videos.
😂😂
Agreed 👍
changed the way i eat entirely
Me and my mate happened to be in Florence at the same time so we kept checking your instagram to see where you were eating so we could eat there too lol (not stalking you, just the food). This place was amazing and my first time trying penne alla vodka! Also the sandwiches at all’antico vinaio were legendary
The La Schiacciata del boss was to die for! I really miss All-Antico Vinaio
Florence holds the most special place in my heart. The day I visited, we took the train up from Rome. We spent the whole day walking around, looking at David, Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, everything! And then late at night as the sun was setting, we ordered a bistecca alla'fiorentina, and ten minutes after starting to eat, I got an email that I got into the PhD program of my dreams!! The waiter brought over Limoncello and Grappa and literally took a shot with us to celebrate before just going right back to helping other tables! :) A night I will never forget; this brought me back, love your videos so much dude.
What a beautiful memory - thanks for sharing!
Polpettone literally translates to meatloaf. It means "big meatball" (polpetta means neatball), which is essentially what a meatloaf is if you think about it.
Great video and hope you feel better soon! I've made alot of your dishes and really appreciate how detailed you. Thank you!
I hope you are feeling much, much better and thank you for another lovely video!
I've been waiting for the footage from Italia, knowing that you were going soon!
That was spectacular! Thank you for letting us experience Florence through your eyes….and mouth 😊
I enjoyed the story of your travels to the Italian restaurant. Hope you are feeling better soon and I look forward to you making the Penne Alla Vodka.
Bummer you got sick. Great job finding a treasure. Can’t wait to see your version. Feel better 😘
Can't wait for your recreation of this dish!!!
Back in 2018 I traveled to Italy with my friend, and I had the best penne alla vodka of my life in Florence, and I think it was from the restaurant that you recommended! Thanks for making this video, it reminded me of what an incredible dish it was.
Penne alla vodka is god tier! From what I understand it was actually very popular in Italy in the 1970s-80s. I love how you go into the history of the dishes. Very informative!!
God Tier is a bit strong.
Yes, in fact this is a dish that was "fashionable" by us in Italy in the 1970s-80s. But still it remains a classic even today.
I can tell you that my Mother made it in '78. She was a lush, and wine fell into her sauces, but vodka was not one of them, until it was. In 1978. This is in NYC and my Mother worked in the biz. So do some research on chicken divan, and then come talk to me. HINT.
Loved this 😊 we’re traveling to Italy next year, Calabria where my husbands family immigrated from, love your channel!
I could almost picture myself being there. Such a great story teller and chef!! Thanks!
After my trip to Padova, I completely changed my mind on cream with pasta. I had an incredible pasta dish with porcini mushrooms and speck. It's indeed very important to make sure to eat where the locals do.
I'm not planning on going on a trip any time soon so I can't wait for you to share your recipe!
Your videos are incredible.
Hope you are feeling well soon.
Cheers broski, this is next in the rotation and that fort green is magic 💪🏽💪🏽🙌🏽
Thinking of you! Then you posted! Thank you 🙏 yes! Looking forward to the recipe!
The level of content. Love it
About to go to Florence next summer so this was a great video! Thank you
Love penne ala vodka. Can't wait to see you make it. Thanks for sharing this spot. Get well soon 😊 🙏
Very interesting! Thank you! I hope you feel better soon 🙏
love the videos, keep up the good work
Hi Stephen! I've been following you for many years and I really enjoy your videos!
I'm Italian and I just wanted to tell you that the translation of polpettone is meatloaf, as you were saying it reminded you of it.
Welcome back home, glad you made it unscathed for the most part. Keep up on the soup consumption (change it up for some beef pho - clears me right up any time I am feeling under the weather!) Take care of yourself & look forward to the next one.
Great video and it brought back some memories. I was on holiday in Florence in 2013 and we went to a tiny restaurant and ate a small plate selection of pastas, including a vodka sauce one, and it was incredible. For the life of me I can't remember the name but I've never forgotten it, the food was great.
I'm sorry you are not feeling well, but you soldiered ahead to share this delightful post. That is fortitude, and I thank you!
Penne alla vodka was a fad in Italy in the late '70s and '80s, as adding cream in many dishes. Today that style of cooking you can find in thematic ironic dinner party with other dishes as strawberry and champagne risotto or scampi cocktail.
PS. Polpettone is litteraly "big meatbal" but it is how we call meatloaf.
cant wait for next video!!
Really hope u do a little series with the foods you enjoyed in Italy.
Awesome vid -- would love a Google maps of your favorite places in Italy, I'm planning to do a month there next year..!
Love you and your passion 🥰
Ciao, paisano! This was one of your best videos! Oh essere a Firenze!
I love your channel, killing it even with covid.
I was in Florence for 3 days I went to Alla Vecchia Bettola for our last dinner this evening. So glad I went there! The pastas are awesome! We ordered the pasta alla Bettola twice that's how good it was! Thanks for the tips!
Get better soon brother I want to see that recipe! Great video excellent dish great pictures of Florence, I love it thank you, now get better
Bro, props for doing this video sick with covid... that isht wrecked me when i got it! Didn't wanna leave my bed
Wonderful, informative video, as usual. I read about this dish in Florence, too, which surprised me, for I'd only had an awful version of it in California in the early 2000s (it was watery). The way the sauce lacquers the pasta here makes me want to reconsider the dish, as does your endorsement of it.
I cannot wait to see you making this recipe.
Get well soon, I love your show and learn alot. Stay well 🙏 my friend
Feel better Anthony ! I made your dessert of tiramisu. It was spectacular. Also did your lemon Ice .
Can’t wait for your Penne Vodka. Thank You for all you do . 🙏😘
That is a place I would love to go to!!! Man , That must have been the best Vodka Penne along with the other things you ordered! I got the address and before I die I'm going to Italy for this ! I'm Sicilian and love To cook and eat Italian food. Thanks for sharing! Great video
Hope you’re feeling better! We too just returned home from Italy with more than a fridge magnet! Covid. Better now I was kinda glad, kinda sad to see this video.
Sharing good food always sounds like a great idea, I’m hoping that the staff will be able to anticipate and prepare for the influx of tourists to their untouristy spot that your following is sure to bring to their humble establishment….and that we can get a table the next time that we’re in Italy and make our way into Florence, finally! 😅
Stephen, thanks for the presentation and the dining tip, but most importantly keep eating good chicken soup and bounce back soon! Your channel here is great…I learn a lot! Cheers.
feel better soon. that meal looked epic. nice trip
I am compelled to write I have been on holiday I got covid. I've been craving pasta with vodka sauce. I couldn't remember which country had more dairy in the North earlier today. I love coincidence and these vids! Cheers 🤗👌
Want more clips of this trip. Seems like a mighty good time
That sounds amazing!!. Never had it but will def try. Hope you feel better soon. I got covid last year and was in the hospital 2 weeks. Now I am in heart failure from it..
We we’re there this summer, freakin amazing pasta! At almost every table people were eating this dish!
This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants! LOVE their penne alla bettola. The family also has a food stall at the Mercato Central: Da Nerbone. The panino con bollito (boiled meat sandwiches) are amazing! Please try it if you have a chance!
Very cool episode. I appreciate the history lesson with the food it's awesome to see how dishes became what they are. Keep up the good work man!🤌
I'd love to see what you came up with recreating this dish
feel better!....sending love!
Now there will be a lot more tourists there - including me on my next trip to Florence! 😁 Great stuff Steve.
Wish we had found this place years ago - was in Florence before smart phones so got stuck in a lot of tourist trap places which were lousy. I did like the Italian beef sandwiches you could buy in the central market however - they were very tasty!
Wish I'd seen this prior to my trip through Italy. Should I be so lucky to return, hands on (the reader's sacred manuscript of choice) I will visit this restaurant. But I'm not disappointed. To echo many other comments, any trip through Italy is a lifetime experience!
It was a fabulous trip Steve! Where are we going next? Bummer about the covid though... airplanes are germ factories.
Looking forward to the recipe!
I'm also interested in the other pasta dish you had at the restaurant. Do that one as well.
Yes please...it looked like something I need.
I'm actually heading to Italy soon. You are getting me psyched for the trip. Prices seemed high though. Would you say this restaurant was geared towards tourists or towards locals? I suppose anything in the center of Florence is more for tourists. Lived in Prague for a while and even back then in the 90s and early 00s the center became nearly purely for tourists. There were really just a few places around the periphery that served good Czech food at Czech prices.
Holy moly that looked so good
I’m so bummed I missed that one! Pasta all’s vodka is a favorite! I miss Italy already!
I’m currently in Florence now visiting some friends who are ex-pats living there. Tonight we went to Alla Vecchia Bettola based on the recommendation from this channel and can confirm the food was spectacular. The staff was super nice even though we were tourists, and the vibe was incredibly lively and fun. They said they are going to take everyone who visits them in Florence
Can’t wait for the updated penne vodka recipe!!!
Welcome back Stephen. You have truly been missed. UA-cam is just not the same without you. Sorry you got sick. I just made your grandma's Italian Wedding Soup today. I wish I could send you some. That stuff will cure anything. Until next week.
I’m going to Florence in July I’ll have to see if I can find this place!
I just got COVID for the first time ever (I think). Really knocked the crap out of me. Glad to be getting better. Have a good steam/sauna.
It's not as popular with younger italians but check out "panna da cucina". I've used it in penne alla baffo.
Trattoria Giovanni is also very amazing and south river Arno (less touristy).
My favourite restaurant in the world is Vini E Vecchi Sapori in Florence. Just off of Piazza della Signoria. It's a tiny little wine bar where you have to put your name down early to get a table. With a daily changing menu.
I've been to florence twice and eaten there 5 times. Every single dish I've had there is the tastiest version of it i've ever had. It's a super friendly place run by 3 brothers, extremely popular with the locals. (even with its prime location i'd say its about 90% locals 10% tourists)
I had it in Rome in 1985. It was fabulous but they had a twist that no one else does. Yes, it had the onions( maybe they were shallots) the vodka with to deglaze, red pepper flakes, the tomatoes, cream and cheese( probably Parmigiano but could have been Pecorino) the last ingredient was one traditionally served with vodka, caviar, specifically red caviar and a sprinkling more of red pepper flakes. So traditional vodka pairings with Italian pasta. I make it all the time and it always impresses. I sometimes start with pancetta which gives it an added richness but the one at the trattoria didn’t have any as it was served as a first course.
Was studying architecture in Florence a few years back and our project was in a location close to the park. Me and a group of friends had the most amazing time at this restaurant. The 10 euro house wine special was also too good to pass up
how beautiful to study architecture in florence
I can’t wait for you to re-create
When are you posting the part two to this video
Feel better soon!
My friend just sent me a link to this video while I was in Florence. Immediately went and tried it. 10/10
Still patiently waiting for the recipe :)
Steve, we're in Italy for our honeymoon, and we're back in Florence tomorrow. Will try to check out this place in Saturday if we have a chance.
I hope I can visit Italy someday!
We need a cook book!!
Curious to see the differences between that recipe and your previous penne alla vodka video
La Bettola!!!! I go there twice a year for that pasta.
Damn...you made me hungry.....FEEL BETTER Steve!
I remember that in one of your videos you also mentioned one restaurant in Firenze which you highly recommended. Can you tell what's the name?
Feel better soon ❤
Hope you feel better Stephen
My grandparents came over from Italy. And god I wish I could afford to visit there. For that, but also, the food.
I just made this last night! 😍
We are on the same wave length😘👌
A restaurant in the Hampton called Nick and Toni’s also serves this, as they got the recipe from the owner of this place. Ina Garten has the recipe as well. It really is the best penne vodka and actually not that difficult to make
Hope you feel better soon bro
I do wish I saw this before I went to Florence.
I think we should have gone a little further afield.
A speedy recuperation my man, and Always wear a mask in airports and planes!
I also have COVID this week. Second time since January. Flu is a walk in the park compared to this. Feel better ❤️
Can I guess? are you vexed and boosted?
Feel better soon. I could say "No pain, no gain", but that's snarky. When you get over this, I'll be waiting for your take on it from Brooklyn.
I come from somewhat near florence, been there plenty plenty plenty of times, passed in front of this resturant the same amout with my car and never stopped. Apparently you need an american where you can find good places to eat near you sometimes!
Will you make this recipe please? Hope you're feeling better
It truly is an unbelievable dish
When are you going to do this, you teased us a month ago!!!!!
