Thanks Alexa, so helpful. I'm learning French in an online class and watching your lessons is a really useful supplement. In this one, it often seemed you could drop just the 'r' at the end of the verb as with few exceptions, most of the variants seemed to include all but the last letter

A wise language professor in college, who was fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, French, and Arabic, used to say that French is taught completely wrong. Most teachers would say there are 6 different endings for the present tense of -ER verbs. In fact there are only two: one is "-e" , the other is "-ez". "-e", "-es", and "-ent" are pronounced the same, and since spoken French is more important than written, that's what ought to guide the teaching of the language. "-ez" is used occasionally, and nobody uses the "-ons" form, instead preferring the 3rd person impersonal construction: not "allons-y!" but "on y va!"
BTW, love these videos, and am learning a lot. Love your grasp of idiomatic English.

2 questions. If there is no -ing form in French, what does it mean to say 'finissant' or 'choisissant'? Aren't these in fact the -ing equivalent in French? Also, what is the 'on' form? As in 'on chante'? Does it mean 'one sings'? Or is it another 'we' form?
Lauricia On is common used instead of Nous: Nous sommes/on est mean the same(we are)
On is like the informal way of saying We, but I believe On can refer to other persons and is usually translated as the pronoun One.
