    Thank you for your inspiring videos and your rtr surgery journey. I just had mine done 4 days ago. Supraspinatus tear fixed w 1 anchor, bone shavig, and clavicle excision. No pain anymore for the most part. Some tingling and numbness all the way down my hand but sounds like its expected after nerve block. Looking fwd to be active in the gym and the kids again. One of your videos mentions the murph, i sure hope to be able to do it again next memorial day. Thanks again.

    Getting same procedure in a week. Super active like yourself, love to lift and bike and hike. A little nervous for some reason about going under for anesthesia . Dont know why! I have an excellent shoulder surgeon in Ann Arbor at Michigan University. Really glad i found your channel and videos and hope to refer to them in the weeks to come ! At least its almost summer and I can hopefully walk alot during recovery. Thank you!

      @@jyoung6366 hey 👋 so I'm almost a full month out. So I had 3 anchors put in then one extra on each side for the extra support to the repair sutures. Get the nerve block shot for sure it will last a full day... I didn't do the other thing with the tube in the nerve that releases pain medicine for a few days . Up to you .. not gonna sugarcoat it the first 10-15 were really hard sleeping . The pain would crank up when I would lay down or sit still . Ice a lot and Tylenol. Didn't take the Oxy much it didn't help much.. get a cheap mesh shower sling . I don't need it now but the first 2-3 weeks you gotta be really careful everything you do , like don't slip in the shower or stairs and stuff. The arm brace sucks but u get used to it , I have to wear it for 6 weeks because of the massive repair. Have your wife / friend help you get it on and off.. best of luck and you will be relieved after the procedure and every day after is closer to recovery bro 😎

      @@jyoung6366 hey so not gonna sugarcoat it first 10-15 were rough . Mostly just trying to sleep. I'm 25 days out and things are finally feeling good and sleep for me has improved . They want me in the sling for 6 weeks so a couple more weeks , then PT. I had a full 100 percent tear so 5 total anchors thus the long time in the sling . Early I iced a lot , tried the Oxy but it didnt help much so I just stuck to Tylenol and ICE . As far as the surgery get the nerve block for sure , it will help the first day after . I didn't get the additional tube thing into the nerve area that has slow release medicine for a couple days . Maybe I should have idk. Up to you . But yea man just know the pain will suck for 2 weeks then improve rapidly. Oh and early I bought a mesh shower sling off Amazon for 10 bucks helped alot . I'm to the point not no sling needed when I shower (still being careful not to slip) and I can take the main sling on off with no help, although being careful
      Not to reach out frontwards or sidewards. I can tell now the shoulder wants to move and I'm excited to start rehab. Bottom line be patient first 10 days IT WILL FEEL BETTER SOON. Post your experience bro and best wishes to us ! Any questions let me know

      I was super nervous to go under anesthesia. I treated my family like I may not ever see them again. So you’re not alone. Fortunately, all went well for me and it sounds like for you. I did a ton of walking from day 1. Was just careful to not trip and fall. It’s a long recovery but you are likely in or getting close to the strengthening phase. I’m glad you are feeling better. How are you doing now?

      @@livelongerlivestronger hey brother thanks for checking in , so I'm 8 weeks out . Finally got to ditch the sling 2 weeks ago. Got a GREAT PT guy at a local place . 3x week and he works me hard stretching moves especially. Strength too. Slowly getting range back but it is literally coming like 1% a day. Dude I'm doing a TON of hikes and walking , gentle jogging intervals . He cleared me to ride my bike on straight roads in the state park by me but I'm going to err on the side of caution and wait a couple more weeks at least . A freak fall could be a huge problem. But anyways yea funny how my biggest anxiety going in was going under for surgery which was a breeze . Hope
      All is well with you and yours bro happy 4th of

    Am waiting to go for my right shoulder rotator cuff its been 3 months, but am not yet decided am thinking maybe i should leave with the pain. Am a full time caregiver THANK FOR YOUR REPLY GOD BLESS YOU

      @Alice Ndimu I tried doing that for 6 months with decent success. I suffered a trauma and it changed things enough I required surgery. If you can do physical therapy consistently it could make you feel better. Find a good shoulder surgeon specialist or doctor of physical therapy to consult with. See if you are a candidate for therapy. If you can possibly avoid surgery, I would definitely try that first!

    Wow, you seemed fine the day of your surgery. Other people ive seen looks miserable because of the nerve block. May i know, do you have a partial tear or a full tear and how big is the tear?

    • @livelongerlivestronger
      @livelongerlivestronger  2 роки тому +2

      @Ed M I had a great surgeon, the nerve block, and was in great shape going into the surgery. I think it all contributed to an easier recovery and less pain. That or I was just very lucky. After hearing and reading all the horror stories of shoulder surgery, I was super surprised how good I felt after surgery. If you have surgery, I hope the same for you.

    How big was your supraspinatus tear? My mri said it was an 8mm but they couldn’t tell if it was a partial or full tear.

    • @livelongerlivestronger
      @livelongerlivestronger  Рік тому

      It was full thickness tear of over a centimeter. My surgeon made a great guess based on the limited information with exam, X-Rays, and two MRIs, but often times its a bit different once they actually get in there to see. It's hard for anyone to really know until they operate. Hopefully, yours is small enough you won't require surgery. If it is, my best wishes to your recovery. It's a very long, often times difficult recovery, but for me it was worth it.

      Mine hurt for a bit too. I followed my healthcare team's plan and it got better with time. Make sure your sling is properly fit and not creating additional issues. It should just take time.

      There are many who report a good deal of pain after surgery. I was fortunate to not have a ton by using ice packs, the ice machine, and Tylenol. Pain varies from person to person, especially with different procedures and surgeons, pain tolerance, etc. I created a video on Week 11 Pain vs Discomfort where I try to explain the difference between pain and discomfort. Here is the link for your convenience: ua-cam.com/video/snDvyXMCctU/v-deo.html
