- There's been a sharp rise in diplomatic tension between China and the UK, following a warning from Beijing that it won't tolerate any interference in the affairs of Hong Kong.
Boris Johnson has offered a path to British citizenship for up to 3 million Hong Kong residents, following the imposition by China of new security laws.
China says the British offer amounts to “gross interference” and has warned the UK not to treat China as an enemy.
The UK argues that China has gone back on the agreement signed in 1997, which offered certain freedoms to Hong Kong people for 50 years.

There is a difference between peaceful and harmless- the chinese people are harmless. Democracy presents immediate conflict and eventual peace. The UN proves that. The world coming together and VOTING on resolutions. Communism presents immediate peace with eventual conflict. That has been proven by the ussr, north korea, cuba, and xi jingping crushing his politica opponents and threatening every country that dares criticize him and his leadership. Propaganda? The western media CAN be biased. You can watch FOX and get the republican viewpoints or CNN and get democratic viewpoints but at least our media isnt OWNED by the government and our reporters dont go to jail for criticizing our leaders.

Britain is already overcrowded and losing jobs because of the pandemic, it can't afford to take in 3 million people from Hong Kong.
Geographically Britain is sparsely populated piece of land. Most hk people are far wealthier and asset rich than people in the uk and far better educated. unlikely that 3 million will come or even close to that number as most BNO holders are high income middle age citizens with more stake in maintaining status quo in hong kong. even so having wealthy highly skilled people come and work in the uk , pay taxes and spend money in the uk economy creates jobs and stimulates economy mate. stop towing the ukip mentality. you are degrading yourself.

Britain is not ‘full’, all advanced economies rely on new skilled immigrants.
The US is declining and retreatimg from its role of global leadership. Europe is weak, aging and divided. Other democracies such as Australia, Canada, India are not that strong to take on China and other authoritative countries.
Plus theres the hypocrisy. UK didnt condemned India on Kashmir but is accusing China for Hong long, just because HK is wealthy. They can provide citizenship to HK'ers but not Uighurs. The principles of freedom and democracy depend on economic interests.
In sum, theres lack of intent as well as capacity. The bastion of democracy is slowly but steadily falling.

The UK has no legal rights on Hongkong. However, China has to admit the values and thoughts of the citizens of HK. China can try to bring feasible amendments instead of being very rigid and stick to chinaism (indirect dictatorship)

what was the 1997 treaty? Wasn’t Hong Kong returned to China from UK, so HK is a part of China now. Isn’t that one country, two systems agreement has a 50 years end date means ONE COUNTRY? Therefore, unless UK is now advocating Hong Kong independence, Hong Kong will be under Chinese ONE system by July 1, 2047 anyway. Will UK allow Irish independence under the name ‘democracy’?

@candice lippmen Firstly I am not judging the entire nation or the people of China, I am judging the CCP. Secondly they seem to be following a modernised version these strategies. The CCP are not our friends, all they care about is gaining more power and saving face. That is blatant to anybody who has done a little research into the subject.

People throughout are saying that the UK violated the soveignty of HK by invading during the opium wars. And that the UK should not be involved in anyway with the discussions about a treaty we signed in order to return HK back to its people. A treaty which was signed in law for 50 years.
