Thank you. I now live in Rotterdam and the legacy of the bombardment surrounds me in monuments , memorials and ‘universal’ modern architecture. The necessarily rapid rebuilding programme left little room for aesthetic considerations early on, but in the last 30 years the city has enjoyed a further transformation with impressive and imaginative buildings emerging ‘from the rubble’ and generating an impressive and beautiful skyline. The port’s ongoing success, and the population’s hardworking culture and pragmatic mindset, have made Rotterdam a prosperous and cosmopolitan city….but that dreadful afternoon in May 1940 is not to be forgotten. Thanks again for bringing the story to a wider, younger, new audience👍
