2020 Can Am Outlander 570 - 10 Hour Review

  • I recently picked up a Can-Am Outlander 570 DPS from Blackman's Cycle Center located in Emmaus, PA. From the reliability, dealer support, comfort, and the Visco-Lok technology, I'm definitely looking forward to years of enjoyment on the trails with this bike!
Considering this is the first ATV I've owned (I grew up riding go-karts and had a Honda CRF 150 dirt bike), I wanted to make sure we broke the Outlander in correctly. I made sure to avoid the following during the first 10 operating hours or 200 miles:
    1.) Full throttle operation
    2.) Sustained accelerations
    3.) Prolonged cruising speeds
    4.) Engine overheating
A few things I noticed during the first 10 hours of operation include:
1.) The speedometer was inconsistent a few times. This is most likely a calibration issue and can easily be reconciled at our first service appointment.
2.) The Visco-Lok is amazing. Period. As seen in the video, this system has gotten me out of some muddy situations.
3.) The tri-mode dynamic power steering (DPS) is incredible. The majority of the break-in period I kept the bike at the minimum setting. I am definitely excited to see how the DPS system responds to heavy snow when we plow this year.
4.) The Can-Am Outlander 570 DPS is extremely comfortable.
5.) The engine tends to run hot. In the comment section please let me know what other 570 owners have done to combat the heat.
    Modification/Add-ons:
    1.) More aggressive tires
    2.) New wheels
    3.) Winch
    4.) Potentially a lift kit
I'm excited to team up with our friends at L-A Productions for our next review video. Our team at Fader Plugs had a blast shooting this video on PA trails and couldn't have asked for a nicer day! Special thanks to Jeff Rush from Blackman's Cycle Center located in Emmaus, PA. If you're located in or around the Lehigh Valley, I highly recommend visiting Blackman's Cycle Center. Their team is extremely professional and provides A-1 customer service.

I have a 2021 model and it never ceases to amaze me, it can sit happily at 20 mph on a trail or run just as comfortably at 65-70 mph on pavement, the only 2 things I could ever complain about is, it’s a bit of a gas hog from my experience (sure probably doesn’t help when you run highway speeds) I’d like personally if it had a bigger tank than just 5 gallons, and the other is it runs hot, my average temp is about 195 degrees, and that’s a complaint I’ve noticed a lot of owners make, it makes riding in the summer pretty uncomfortable and I’ve noticed that it’ll cause the fuel tank to “vent” from the heat, making that awful sound after several hours of hard riding

Great review - thanks. I just got a 2021 570 and 450 for me and my wife and we like them a lot. I'd sure like to see a video of you installing the winch! I got a couple of winches, and from watching a couple of videos, it looks pretty involved.
One thing I've notice on my 570, is a small clunk coming from the transmission sometimes when I engage, disengage the throttle. It sounded the exact same way one time when the transmission wasn't fully engaged, and then when I pressed the throttle it kicked into gear and made the same clunk. Don't know if that's normal or not. I do appreciate your video, well thought out and well produced. Cheers.

      Stuart,
Thanks so much for the kind words! Congrats on your new purchase! We will definitely release a review of us installing our winch. Which Winch brand do you prefer?
I believe what's most involved with winch installation is running the wires/hooking up electric.
Regarding the clunking sound - I have not personally experienced that. I would recommend discussing this with your dealer.
Have a great rest of your week and safe riding!

@@faderplugsllc2035 Thanks - I will ask them about it. The clunking doesn't sound horrendous, but could be a problem.
I don't have a real opinion on winch brand. I picked up two Can Am 2500s from my dealer. I'm not a mechanic so I'd rather not screw around with weird brands. They also have a 3500, but I'm thinking you start to get diminishing returns pretty quick on winching power. Besides, we're almost always going to be out together, so I figure two 2500s will be good for almost anything. And yes - the location of the wiring, especially the solenoid seems to be the biggest issues. One guy put it way back in the trunk, and the other guy put it underneath the seat. The issue they both mentioned is the bracket up front where you normally put the solenoid seems to be used for some part associated with the power steering system. So I'm pretty interested in seeing what folks do.

How do you know it is good reliability when you only have 10 hrs. on it? I am looking at an outlander, grizzly or sportsman. I want fun factor with some power. I don't know what size to get. I don't want a slow atv with no power. The grizzly i here is reliable at 700 cc. But does it have power. The outlander 570 do I want a 650 850 or 1000? The polaris is most popular but ugly. So basically if i go with 570 will i regret because it is just a utility vehicle vs. Performance?

      Hey Tom!
Prior to purchasing the 2020 Outlander 570, I asked current Outlander owners what their thoughts were with regard to the reliability. The majority of current Outlander owners raved about their reliability! How is the search going? The new sportsman looks awesome and I love how they relocated the battery. However, not a fan of the front storage bin - it looks flimsy.
The Outlander 570 is sport/utility. I'd recommended checking out Dirt Trax UA-cam channel. Prior to purchasing our 570 I watched a ton of their content. Personally, my next machine will probably be an 850 or 1000. This is my first ATV and I did not want too much power right away. Just a personal preference. However, the V-Twin Rotax engine does have a lot of power. Let us know how else we can help!
