@Andrew Szeto, if you end up using your cabin in winter, a small version of rocket mass heater may be nice, slowly releasing heat through the night, even after the wood is consumed. Good short video is: What is a rocket mass heater? (at "paul wheaton" channel) Rocket stoves burn so hot that they burn the creosote and smoke before anything goes up the chimney, avoiding risk of chimney fires and causing little air pollution. I've never had one, but they look easy to build and use just a fraction of wood that a wood burning stove uses to heat the same space. Anyway, I enjoyed the video. I love the quality of the workmanship. I hope you have many wonderful stays in your cabin.

Very cute build! I’m thinking “they are going to cook in that thing” due to all the insulation. My family has a very similar A-frame camp, 14’x16’ but the walls are just wide tongue-and-groove boards milled locally, no insulation. It’s got an old antique wood cookstove that has an oven and water heater, and the camp interior during Maine’s cold winters is so hot we have to open the windows to let cold air in or we’ll roast to death, LOL.
no way! haha i find the insulation works well! the stove is small, so having the insulation i find really keeps it cozy all night. thanks a ton for checking this out 🙏🏼

My son and I built an equilateral A frame , floor and both sides are 16 foot...Length is 24 foot so that adds up to 384 square footprint set on some concrete blocks...When we built the A frame cabin I had visions of an upstairs loft , you know the whole bit....We were able to make a very small loft....( big disappointment )...with the wood stove burning the temperature in the loft is quite unbearable.. (impossible for sleeping )....If the sguare footage of the little A frame in the video is 10 x 10. That means my A frame is almost four times as big , and I can honestly say that my A frame is WAY too small for any more than two people . If your dream is to have " a little cabin in the woods " , believe me when I say a little cabin , is just that , too little ! Pretty soon you'll be making plans for an addition . Yes , an A frame is very strong and able to withstand tremendous snow loads that could likely collapse a lesser dwelling , but there is a lot of wasted space.....If I had it to do over , I wood forget about my "little cabin in the woods " , and build as big as I could afford cabin in the woods
Didn't see any plumbing in that house, but did see the plumber's crack though ;-) Awesome build and done in the winter weather so real he-man construction.
I knew what you mean it would be nice to have a cabin just like that and like you maybe a bit larger I'd like on with a little outside seating that would be be nice in a nice setting
Awesome job and I like the materials you used. Id have to go with bigger cabin or else me and the old lady would get on each others nerves real fast....In any event, good luck and stay off the crack!

When he put up that climbing wall ...mind blown! 😮 Of all the things I've tried to think of to make the wasted space of an a frame worth it, I never even thought of a freaking climbing wall. I probably *need* it in a place that small, because I would be climbing the walls anyway, after about 3 weeks of Winter.
FYI never run flashing tape back into your window/door openings. If water ever gets behind the siding it channels in right into the house behind the window nailing flange. Hang window/door and tape over the nailing flash. I've replace a lot of rotten boards from doing the way he did in the video. 15 years of building experience
I agree, i feel its too small and too tight, need a little more space, i love the design, is there a way to make it wider, but still keeping the triangle shape? and can you have this on wheels instead foundation to travel
Why does it seem that when people built these cabins in the woods they always start right before winter? It always seems to snow right before the framing is done.
awww thanks! and not going out of my way at all! it's important to take the time to say hi to anyone who's taken their time to comment in the first place. still learning youtube and honoured to have folks check out my stuff (whether good or bad haha)
Terrific video. Some thoughts for others doing the same: frost heave is an issue in cold climates, so consider building your subfloor on concrete posts sunk a good 12" below frost depth for your area. Really cheap insurance against unsettling from ice. Also you might want to use sill pans under those windows, because water infil will happen and the style used here is likely to cause water issues in the future. The climbing wall is awesome. My kids would love it. I'm going to add one to a zipline tower we built. Thanks for the vid.
@@AndrewSzeto That was not criticism, just experience the hard way. When we finish the zipline interior (it's a 12x12 two-story tower with a finished interior), we're moving onto an A-frame almost exactly like yours. So you are the inspiration. The rock wall is brilliant. I thought of adding one to the exterior of the tower, but waffled. Seeing yours cemented the idea in my mind. Thanks again.

Yes , an A frame is very strong and able to withstand tremendous snow loads that could likely collapse a lesser dwelling , but there is a lot of wasted space.....If I had it to do over , I wood forget about my "little cabin in the woods " , and build as big as I could afford cabin in the woods
great video, interesting idea with the bird mouth cuts on the half wall.
thanks andrei! it was a good time and taking this into my next build right now haha
Best and simplest video ever.. Big respect to the comunity this guy is greate
thanks soo much ivan! seriously means soo much 🙏🏼
I’d like to know where to get one of those wood burning stoves. That was a cool version
it's a g stove from norway: www.gstove.com/gstove/12004/gstove-heat-view-camping-stove-compact-with-high-effect-plus-glass-door
@@AndrewSzeto does it work well?
uncle freddie it does, but i needed something bigger and got a free vermont castings aspen ✌🏼
@@AndrewSzeto great job guys
Didn't see any plumbing in that house, but did see the plumber's crack though ;-)
Awesome build and done in the winter weather so real he-man construction.
Bruce Smith haha wooo!
I want to build something similar but maybe a bit larger to be my tiny home. I love the look of this so much!
cheers erin! i highly recommend it and bigger would be better for sure!
I knew what you mean it would be nice to have a cabin just like that and like you maybe a bit larger I'd like on with a little outside seating that would be be nice in a nice setting
interesting family origin totally! i got portable seating atm, just stumps and folding chairs atm haha
@@AndrewSzeto cool 👍 it's a beautiful cabin done an excellent job with it
Great work, guys. Very inspired to try something like this now!
ehh good luck! you got this!
Awesome job and I like the materials you used. Id have to go with bigger cabin or else me and the old lady would get on each others nerves real fast....In any event, good luck and stay off the crack!
Tony J hahaha i hear you tony! wish i could have built bigger for sure 🤙🏼🤙🏼
@@AndrewSzeto You could, just make a wall opening, create a breezeway path then build.
Fantastic! Something to be proud of and to have for many years! Xo
thanks soo much! should last longer than me :)
wow so if I build a cabin i think this is the best design i have seen! seems the most simple and the most creative/awesome!
jerryandersmiththe3rd thanks a ton 🙌🏼🙌🏼 means a lot!
I built a shed with these plans from Ryan [ Details Here?> *WoodBlueprints. Com* ] . The instructions were clear and easy to implement. Even a novice can be able to build fast using this plan. I'm happy I bought the plan. It also saved me much cost.
Using proper vent all the way to the peak was brilliant!
cheers! yaa we needed it for sure.
When he put up that climbing wall ...mind blown! 😮 Of all the things I've tried to think of to make the wasted space of an a frame worth it, I never even thought of a freaking climbing wall. I probably *need* it in a place that small, because I would be climbing the walls anyway, after about 3 weeks of Winter.
haha totally! had some really great setters come by too and we got 6 routes from v0-v7 haha
@@AndrewSzeto That's truly inspired brother!
@@truckerenoch8824 thanks a ton! hope you're having a great night walt!

MrGoodDeeds3 it’s a g stove www.gstove.com/gstove/12004/gstove-heat-view-camping-stove-compact-with-high-effect-plus-glass-door
You’re really making me want one of those stoves after these projects
Tom Bielecki haha i did just acquire a bigger vermont castings stove that i’m going to try out!
@@AndrewSzeto It really seems like the perfect size for something like this or a greenhouse, and portable enough that you could use it temporarily
@@TomBielecki totally! you just have to wake up every few hours if you're sleeping and trying to keep your cabin warm too
Awesome job, that's a beautiful cabin. Your work is inspiring. It makes me want to make one too haha
Heyden Labelle right on! it was a few years in the works!
That is the coolest little wood burning stove I've ever seen.
cheers ana! it's a g stove, but i've since switched it over to a bigger vermont castings aspen!
Tabernack! Ça c'est bon!
Bien fait les amis! Je manques le Québec
aleph moodie merci mon ami!
FYI never run flashing tape back into your window/door openings. If water ever gets behind the siding it channels in right into the house behind the window nailing flange. Hang window/door and tape over the nailing flash. I've replace a lot of rotten boards from doing the way he did in the video.
15 years of building experience
sound good! will know better for next time!
Good call. Also, I'd add sill pans. Cheap insurance. The more defensive layers we add against water, the better.
I would like to say thanks UA-cam for this recommendation and Andrew for this pretty house!
thank you hokku for checking this out!!
Same as it's a great recommendation from UA-cam I'm glad i got the recommendation for this too
interesting family origin thanks again! means a lot 🤗
Beautiful build. Just a little too small..my wife and I have been wanting to build an A frame on our muskoka property..
xjeepmanx amazing! ya i made this one to be under permit size. next build will be bigger!
I agree, i feel its too small and too tight, need a little more space, i love the design, is there a way to make it wider, but still keeping the triangle shape? and can you have this on wheels instead foundation to travel
Marissa Lanza where there’s a will there’s a way! all doable!
Cool video. I always wanted to build a small A frame cabin in somewhere Alaska. This is giving me some inspiration.
That A frame is ‘too cool’! looking forward to your next project
thanks soo much Scott! Gonna have a few fun things coming up!
This man has more knowledge in his belly than most of us will ever have in our brains...
rich is a genius for sure!
Why does it seem that when people built these cabins in the woods they always start right before winter? It always seems to snow right before the framing is done.
haha it's more cool that way, instead of the sweltering summer heat?! haha honestly it was when work slowed down a bit and I could take a month off.
Yeah, this is the like 6th video I've seen where they started in December :p I guess that's good reasoning though ^^
Nice project!!
thanks a ton!! 🤗
This man is so sweet not only did he make an entire house he goes out of his way to try to responded and like each comment!
awww thanks! and not going out of my way at all! it's important to take the time to say hi to anyone who's taken their time to comment in the first place. still learning youtube and honoured to have folks check out my stuff (whether good or bad haha)
I'd like to see an updated video to see how it's holding up pls. Nice work!
oooh it's doing great! still a great little weekender 🤗 but good idea on a video!
Hey I have an idea, let's build an A-frame!
Ok but can we wait until it's winter, freezing cold and possibly snowing?
ahh i got stoked last year. alsooo no bugs haha (couple nights of -30 winter camping though too haha)
Won a scratch off, money burning pocket
My favorite part, 04:59, old man (who almost NEVER wears gloves, even in cold weather or working with insulation) proudly watches his protege working.
hahaha rich has got bad knees. Happy to do all the work. My first time for everything!
Dude on the recorder in the background music is killin it😂
Terrific video. Thanks for the vid.
mega appreciate the feedback patrick. fonna look into the sill pans for sure 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@FamilyManMoving oh i don't take it that way at all haha, it's honestly super helpful and i'm grateful for it! i get way crazier comments haha. i'm just here to learn 🙏🏼

That's a beautiful cosy looking home u built there Brother. Respect.
thanks soo much! it's been fantastic :)
@@AndrewSzeto Your very welcome my friend. Enjoy life.....
When did they level the base build? Seems like by leaving a tarp underneath that would cause a lot of pooling water and subsidence.
there is a bit of pooling water, but not a ton. it's generally bone dry through the spring/summer and fall. we leveled the base with a laser level and ensured that we squared everything up. Will jack and fix things if it moves with the freeze-thaw cycle.
@@AndrewSzeto good to know about the process, thank you. It's an awesome cozy looking cabin, love the climbing wall.

Hi Andrew! I am going to be building the same thing, only in Tennessee! Can I ask the dimensions of yours? It seems like the perfect size for me!
Laura McDowell it’s a 10x10, tbh i’d build a 12x16 if possible! it’s would be way more worthwhile
@@AndrewSzeto Ah! Ok! I was thinking about a 16x20, since this is going to be my permanent home. I noticed you used 12 concrete footings for yours, so do you think I would need more than that?? I appreciate your time and any advice you have!
Laura McDowell if it’s your permanent home, those are great dimensions and having a proper foundation might be key too!
Snowy weather ensures that the window is fully shrunken before installing, unintended benefit to keep a good seal year round 👍🏻
rad!! thanks for the info! haha didn't even know
Maynard you’re right, but with this install, the cold weather was definitely a benefit and will help keep things square
