So interesting. I just noticed that I had these plants in an out of the way place. Now I will have lots more.

Fascinating, I have only dug and moved part of the clump and didn't know I could cut the rhizomes to create new plants.

Thank you for this! Mine is 3 or 4 ft tall & growing taller every year, towering over everything in my flower bed & taking over. I cut back my neighboring hydrangea every fall, but I didn't have a clue what to do with Solomons seal

If a bud gets broken off will it resprout the same year? I need to get a protective covering for them as they have been trampelled on and even eventually eaten by something.

So we put this in the garden this spring and I would like to move it, how long do I need to wait?

Winter or early spring before they emerge is a great time to move Polygonatum.

Question: I’m a beginner in propagating solomon seal. I had a baby rhizome last year that was planted next to my garage. I uprooted it and planted it in my flower bed. In a year, it grew a second stem and a huge rootball and many white eyes. I just transplanted it into a pot indoors ( August, still Summer; not Fall :( because I’m relocating soon. Unfortunately without me knowing this, I overwatered it and its leaves are yellowing, curling and a couple of the white eyes looked brownish and not sure if it has root/rhizomes rot?
I would like to divide it and save the white healthy eyes; will it be ok. or will they be contaminated from the rot? Since you said that part of the rhizome dissolves because it’s used as a food, I’m not sure if what I saw when I took it out of the pot was a brown rhizome or an eye getting rotten?
I hope I can save the many white firm eyes to transplant next year ( but it will have to be in pots, because I can’t do it on a flower bed outdoors. Thank you in advance for your help.😢

Hello! We recommend removing the rhizomes from soil, discarding any rotten tissue or roots, and drying them for a couple of days in a cool, shaded, low humidity location. Once the plant tissue forms a dry skin over the cuts, the rhizomes should be planted in fresh, lightly moist soil. Avoid watering for a couple of days and use a bottom tray to water. Rotten roots will be replaced with fresh ones in spring. Thank you and happy gardening!

@@Plantdelightsthank you SO much for your reply.
I see rhizomes on your video look like a turmeric or a ginger root; last year my solomon seal rhizome was smooth, small and white. Will these change in a year as they grow and will look like the one you are showing in the video?
Do all tuberous plants with rhizomes, bulbs and tubers need to be watered underneath to avoid root or rhizome rot?
Could you expand on the type of soil I should be transplanting the rhizomes ( I only have sunshine#4 indoor soil less potting mix and cactus soil -Miracle grow brand with fertilizer in it; both are supposed to be well-draining, but not sure about the fertilizer included for rhizomes that need to root (?) My budget is very tight and can not buy any other kind of soil right now or perlite or compost, etc.
Also, could you expand on the use of a “ bottom tray to water”, please? I don’t have any experience on propagating, watering rhizome cuttings. I don’t want to overwater them and kill them before their time.
In saying that, do I need to water while I store them in winter to overwinter? Will spraying them with a spray bottle be ok. for not risking to overwater them? or are they ok. just dry?
Any method you have to keep them moist overwinter will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for replying so quickly and in detail.❤
I’m looking forward to save my solomon seal for next year. My plant looks like it’s dying; with curled up and dried leaves and some of them have bigger yellow spots with black in the middle of the yellow ( I wish I can send you a few pictures. Would that be possible? please let me know. I’ve never heard about posting pictures here on You Tube comments, but if it’s possible or via email, feel free to share it and I will send them to you.
How do I overwinter those rhizomes? Can they be in an unheated garage? If so, Do I need to protect them with anything?
I have many questions 😅because I’m an eager to learn beginner!😂😉
Looking forward to hear back from you!😊
