- As bike shop employees we are constantly replacing our bikes, scheming on how we can make them better, and we love the process. It's fun to try to be creative on ways to improve on the stock form of a bicycle and squeeze out the best version of a bike build.
This video is an overview of my own personal build on a Scott Ransom. I fell in love with the raw brushed aluminum of the Scott Ransom 920 but wanted to kit it out with parts off of a 910, along with some of my other favorite bike parts from SRAM, RockShox, Bontrager, and others. So I set out to customize the build and came up with what I feel is an awesome version of Scott's very capable enduro and all-mountain destroyer.
Let me know your thoughts on what I've done and let me know if there's something else you think I should add or change.

Why a GX cassette?
Sled Shed imho the gx cassette is best value/ durability for the heavier riders. 🙏🔑✌️
@@notapplicable6274 Gotcha. I've often swapped out the GX cassette on bikes in favor of an XO1 primarily to save a little weight. I don't like to shave weight on tires, so to offset that I usually look at the cassette. At 170 lbs I guess I likely don't need the added durability that a GX might provide.

Thanks man! Yeah it was a ton of fun to build. I got this frame by mashing a Ransom 910 and 920 together, and then adding some of my favorite upgrades from there. Unfortunately there's not a really straight forward way to do it other than that. This bike weights about 34 lbs the way it sits, but that's with pedals, water bottle, and multi-tool on board. Not super light, but very burly!

Hey man love how you got a ramp adjust shock on a 920. Do you have the part # for that shock? I'm not sure but there should be a 4 digit code for that? I cant afford the 900 but i gotta have the ramp adjust! 😅
And how do you feel about simply adding tokens to the standard 920 shock that has no ramp adjust?
@@insanebmxthomas Thanks for checking out the video! The Scott Bike part number is 272443 for this rear shock. Unfortunately it looks like it's currently out of stock going direct to Scott, there might be a dealer out there that has it but unfortunately I don't.
Adding tokens could be the way to go if you're needing some more ramp up. I can't say I've done that with that specific shock but I've done that with other bikes. Definitely makes a difference if you're needing some more progressivity out of your shock.
@@sledshed thanks man! Really helpful! i live in europe so i might have better luck trying to find that shock. Since you asked for suggestions in the video, do you know about the twinlock/dropper under-bar lever? I believe its a scott product :)

Yeah this bike came with the under the bar twinloc remote but I liked the over-the-bar option, primarily to make swapping from one bike to another a little easier to get used to since this way the dropper remote is always in the same spot no matter which bike I'm riding.

Why did you replace FOX 36 fork?
Great question! The Fox 36 is a great fork and one of the best you can buy. That said I really wanted to disconnect the fork from the Twinloc remote to allow the front end to sag into its travel while climbing and using the twinloc remote for the rear shock, but still be able to adjust the damping or compression by hand. The way the fork comes from Scott you have to either swap the damper or replace the fork in order to do that because it comes set up with a FIT4 damper that has a spring loaded top cap that only works with a handlebar remote. Unfortunately they no longer make a kit that allows you to just swap the top cap, the whole damper has to change. I chose to swap the fork for the Lyrik Ultimate (which I had on a Trek Remedy last year and absolutely loved). If you haven't tried a Lyrik Ultimate then you've gotta try it soon! So good...
@@sledshed I have the same Scott Ransom like yours but 2019 that I think is practically the same and for me FOX 36 is quite good so I did not see the point to have some change on it, but your suggestions about the fork is quite good.
