    • @Msaidawedo
      @Msaidawedo 6 років тому +24

      Ha! You've tracked down the reason Marlon rolled his eyes. His reaction to the mention of her name was immortalized for us to enjoy forever.
      OMG.
      The producer of the play, Jack Wilson, recalled:
      "During Tallulah’s speech, Marlon would unbutton, then rebutton his fly. He would squirm during her speech and was especially adept at picking his nose. He would leer at the audience, wink at a stagehand standing in the wings. One night he scracted his ass, and I mean really scratched, going for those dingleberries. Not just onstage, Marlon was ‘driving me nuts,’ in Tallulah’s words.”
      On opening night in Boston, as reported by Darwin Porter in his book, Brando Unzipped, Brando made his most audacious move yet, turning his back to the audience, spreading his leg and then urinating on stage scenery. Tallulah couldn’t see him, so she didn’t know why the audience was giggling at her monologue. That was it for Brando. In his last performance, he tried to upstage even the urinating routine. When his character is killed, he then milked it for a tremendously long death sequence, leading to a critic attending the show to say that he looked like he was a car looking for a parking space in Midtown Manhattan."

      zitorage Yes, he had naturally full and well shaped lips. He had the sexiest lips of any actor. You have to be a female to really know what I mean. He wasn’t a pretty boy, wasn’t classically handsome even, but he had SexAppeal, a very masculine face that was perfect for his acting roles. He said that he would study a woman and in a couple of minutes would know what she liked. It was easy for him to figure people out and become the person they wanted...for a while. Great actors observe, record and then mimic what they need from real life experiences. Imagine in being in one of his Stella Adler acting classes. He ended up being great friends with her and having an affair with her as well. He never missed an opportunity. She wrote that one night, he just showed up and she was shocked. But he knew what she wanted, took his time, watched her like a cat, and when the time was right, he made his move. By that time her shock had worn off and she was ready for him. A wonderful evening took place, according to her. Marlon, surprisingly, never felt it was right to talk about any of his many women and was very private about his relationships, even though most of them had only complimentary descriptions about being with him.

      I am lucky that the 50s were my teenage years. To me, the guys were much sexier, everything seemed cleaner. It was FUN being a teenager and being in love with Marlon. Some people have never seen him in Guys and Dolls, a musical. He even got to sing with the lovely Jean Simmons. They were great together and he was in his prime and played the mobster to the good Salvation Army girl he got drunk. He was so subtle yet sooooo masculine. He wasn’t much of a singer, but the songs he sang were recorded in his voice with many cuts to keep him on tune and to get it right. You might have a lot of fun seeing him in this role. He loved trying new things. And once, I got to see him in person, at a news conference for high school students. I thought I would faint when he walked into the room!

    This is a brilliant audition. There are so many boxes that an actor has to tick when they audition, and Brando ticks every box. When an actor prepares for an audition, I believe they should always look to this one as an example of how to do it.
    He’s handsome, he’s charming, he’s got stage experience and training from Stella Adler. He showed his range of emotions from rage, sadness, neediness etc. and he did it seamlessly. He was only 23 years old and he was already *this* brilliant.
    You can really see that he understood the script, that he made the character his own and you can really relate to him as well. You can really see the history behind him with this scene alone. His father was abusive and he hates him because of it, and it probably drove him into a life of crime, a life of rebellion. Brando would’ve been perfect; his father was abusive and he hated him because of it, and he admitted in *Listen to Me, Marlon* that he was feeling rebellious at this time of his life. Harold’s story was like Brando’s own story. That’s why he would’ve been perfect for the part.
    I don’t know how many takes this audition took as it can normally take several, and Brando was known to require multiple takes. However, the editors did a very good job on picking the right takes, as they really showcase Brando’s talent. I’m not surprised that he was offered the part afterwards, but I’m surprised that he turned it down. He would’ve been brilliant. Maybe he felt he wasn’t quite ready for this kind of role yet. Maybe it was too personal. In *Last Tango in Paris,* Brando played a role that was very personal. He made himself so vulnerable that it really bothered him, so he never made himself that vulnerable for a movie again.
    Also, don’t criticize Ruth Ford please. Yes, her acting is pretty dated, but this is Brando’s audition, so she was probably told to just follow him.

    • @sekarpertiwi4077

      He not turn down this role but the movie have been canceled and after for long time they want to continue this project again and when they want to hire Marlon he was too old for the role so they search another actor.
      I am agree with you...he only 23 years old here and he perform like a pro actor. very few young actors nowadays are as talented as him

      @Mere_Christian Рік тому +2
