Brando was a good looking guy (by almost anyone's standards), and a great actor. Doesn't mean everything else about his life was great, or admirable. Fame is fleeting and, in the end, means NOTHING.

His Father and Mother were alcoholics. Addiction is genetic. Brando's addiction was obviously sex and food as his later obesity spoke to an eating disorder. He seemed to me to be borderline personality. They will involve themselves in all kinds of risky behavior. He was a brilliant actor and beautiful man. I think he knew what emotional and mental pain was and understood it in other people as well, That is why he could connect with his characters on a deep level. He understood human weakness, anger, sensuality, loneliness and also love and tenderness. He was a complex human being.

The fact that people seem to focus on one's sexuality (which is one of the smallest things about a person) says a lot about the petty nature of our society
It is a very large part of a person’s life for many reasons....one of them being the number of people trying to silence or criticize it whenever the topic is brought up. Until everyone gets over their petty need to stop talking about sexuality, we need to keep talking about it.
What universe you living in where sexuality is a small part of ones identity? Hey I have no opinion one way or another on Brando except for Godfather movies but I disagree sexuality is one of the smallest parts of humans. It’s one of THE LARGEST PARTS OF A HUMAN. Lol
I dont think it suits these famous stars very well, that their private life was so unhealthy to mind and body. Nobody can deny that he was handsome and spite his eye for men as well, women adored him to the core. I dont think he was kind, but obvius he had what it took to take several actors down during his lifetime, and that dont matter for some, but I would never in a million years accept a boyfriend or husbond, living like that, people can live as they please I dont judge them, but I am not that tolerant.
Yeah, huge respect to a sex addict who betrays his friends by sleeping with their wives and strings women (and men) along with no intent of anything deeper. But the important thing is that he was true to himself ... and no one else, apparently.
His genius was (I think) he was able to tap into his flaws as all humans have and use and channel them into his roles. And I really admire that he was confident in himself to not have to hide his true sexuality - he just had other conflicts and demons to deal with.
I don't think he had any genius. He had a great talent, never understood it, but let it happen. Some of his movies were great, many were not. The later ones, not the Godfather, but the others, were terrific.
@cornelius washington Yes..when he was young, he looked better..but the age and life itself showed their effects very fast at this gentlemen unfortunatelly.
William Thompson People get attracted to all sorts because that what chemistry is all about. Of course being physically attractive means one has more admirers, women and men. But just because someone is a good-looking man who is fancied by gay men does not mean the, in this case Brando, has to respond and get involved. Looks have nothing to do with acting out the same-sex thing. One does it because one is genuinely attracted to it. However it sounds like Brando was so over-sexed that he used it as emotional currency. And of course it's interesting that he became a great actor because of his life growing up. AND NOT IN SPITE OF A DIFFICULT CHILDHOOD.
Brando, despite his demons, lived his life fully at a time when most people lived small and fearfully. It was no little thing to demonstrate for civil rights back then and, even today, folks are just now and still with great trepidation expressing their sexual preferences. He was a larger than life guy who lent his fame to help others. No doubt, he had issues in his family life, but he never abandoned his children. People often recall his role in The Godfather and Streetcar Named Desire, but I also recall his role in The Young Lions. A star of his stature playing a Nazi officer!! It was an unusual and insightful film for its time and underappreciated because of this. Anyhow, he made room in the fabric of a grey society for others to follow.
@@pastelskies8466 Agreed. But infidelity is a personal matter between two lovers. I am sure that the lovers that Brando had at the time were aware that he was not one for monogamy. It was their choice to try. And, my dear, there are some lovers worth that gamble, no matter the repercussions. Of course, many are not. There has never been any indication that he was violent towards his lovers. That would impact my feelings towards him. However, I really don't believe in judging a person's whole life based solely his or her ability to be faithful. Monogamy us not for everyone. I was not addressing his personal life. I was addressing his public activities as related to the social ethos of his time. He took a stand. When many would not. He went his own way. He supported civil rights for African Americans and Indians. He was generous in his support. And, he accepted the responsibility of fatherhood. Perhaps he wasn't good at it. Mine wasn't. But he was there. It's naive to expect people of fame or leaders of any ilk to live flawless lives. He wasn't a hypocrite. By all accounts he was extremely frank. He wasn't a priest. He was an actor. I always liked him. His style. His acting. The way he moved. And his politics.
15 children - some of whom were terribly messed-up themselves. Given his own childhood and his parents, he probably couldn't have been a good father even if he'd tried, which I doubt he really did.
The difference between Brando & many men throughout the ages was that he was honest about his bisexuality. That veil was lifted more frequently from the 1950s onwards, reaching a casual openness from the mid 1960s onwards. However, many insecure males still grabbed onto the safety clause of 'Don't ask, Don't tell', which resulted in neuroses and even worse 'side afflictions'. I guess only those who are totally secure within themselves are relaxed enough to discuss their experiences in same sex relationships. Not that the demand to do so, is important, it does help the insecurity to diminish.
just because someone is out there saying that Brando was bi does not mean he was!!!! you cant believe most of what is put on social media, they are just trying to get your attention (sad they sink so low to do it)
@Let's Talk Respectfully disagree. The men and the women dressed so much classier compared to today. They weren't perfect people but they at least had an air of class to them. Nowadays our actors aren't perfect and they don't even try to pretend to be. 😓
@@paigealexander5601 it's the "THEY" OR THEY Committee that i question, just because someone said it causing rumors to spread like wildfire does not mean it is actual truth (the man is dead and cannot respond) have you ever been really hurt and angry because of what some folks have said ? Use the brain God gave you and don't be so quick to follow what others lead.
One of the reasons why Brando is the greatest actor of al-time because, most of the actors who we know such as De Niro, Al Pacino or Johnny Depp are Marlon Brando's products. So, in a certain way he raised all of them.
Brando was a great actor and very handsome man in his youth, very troubled from a small child until his death - he was a humanitarian for the underdog, but very damaged in his own life - I love his acting and may he RIP -
Let's talk about how he used his status to champion other more important causes--for one, the image of Native Americans portrayed on the screen for instance.
And like most social justice warriors he was a prick in his personal relationships. He toyed with people's emotions-asking someone to marry him when he had no intention of following through- promising fidelity and continually breaking lover's hearts. It's easy to grand stand and play the noble hero with all of Hollywood watching and applauding. It's much harder to simply be a decent person who treats everyone they meet with respect.
i think brando and wally cox met in grade school. as most everyone probably knows, people you become friends with in grade school and stay friends with through all of your developmental changes are pretty irreplaceable. so, that's probably why Brando felt that way about him. Very human.
If Marlon Brando was a 30-40yr old actor in Hollywood today, he would be considered an A list actor and the sexiest man alive. I also believe he would be open about his sexuality. He would be as vocal as Robert De Niro when it comes to politics and on the front line of Civil Rights and the Alaskan Pipe Line protests as well as protecting Native lands. I'm saying Brando back then and would be the same today.
He was addicted to sex!! He would've fucked anything and anyone. That doesn't mean he was bisexual. Most men that sleep with men aren't homosexual or bisexual, only a tiny percent. I can assure you, as a homosexual. And it's not because it's not "accepted," it's because they aren't. Most do that in their teenage years to early 30s because they are more sexually active and explore all kinds of things, even I have slept with women.
I would say he was an addictive personality that never got to his core issues. The weight gain at the end of his life could show this....food became the new fix.
So true! He lived hard and had a colourful life and clearly was a sex addict amongst other highs but in his older years this must have been replaced with a food fix
His heart was in the right place... And like many of us, he became a great survivor to all of the trauma he lived as a young adolescent. He was beautiful and women and men loved him💞
As masculine as he looked, there was always something feminine in the way he spoke. The same with Burt Lancaster. I always thought it was their style of line delivery. Even Wally Cox.
Personally He seems more gay To me but had to settle because of the times , not that gay men can’t be masculine but Heteros have to pretend oftentimes to be manly …gay men don’t have this pressure
Incredible story. It’s ironic, I too was called Brando in 6th grade by my favorite teacher of all of my time. I truly didn’t appreciate his presence in the big screen. However, because of his tough childhood and his later clinical and medical diagnosis, we do have something in common. I respect his open honesty of his inner life. Hopefully, his children get a better outlook in their lives, despite of some previous tragedies that have already occurred in theirs. Blessings to his remaining children.
Definitely one of the best actors ever. Amazing how self confident he seemed with himself (after his childhood trauma), which is why he had a great career and was comfortable in his own skin.
I don't get Brando's acting style being described as "macho." Brando's style was androgynous, both on and off the screen. John Wayne and Clark Gable epitomized a macho acting style. Brando's screen essence was their polar opposite.
@@lemorab1 I A B S O L U T E L Y agree! Brando could PLAY macho, but he could also play soft and tender and sweet. He was truly a great … and there aren’t too many of those !

A sex addict is what we'd call it today!! Sex is normal, but he enjoyed his escapades i suppose. I think he had a thing for Burt Reynolds too, that's why he was jealous of him.
Burt had a hard time looking so much like him and not getting good roles, that's why he grew the mustache- or was it because he was the gay trend at the time- I forget

He absolutely loathed the character of Stanley Kowalski and that he was ever linked in some people's eyes as BEING that character. Doubtless he put a lot of his dad in that performance...
I know an older gentleman who was dating Loretta Young’s daughter back in the early fifties. One day he was waiting in the sitting room for her to get ready to go out & the doorbell rang. Since he was close by he opened the door instead of the maid. He said there stood the most incredibly handsome young man he’d ever seen. He was asking for someone down the street but had the wrong house. Fast forward a few months & he was walking by the newsstand & noticed the very same young man on the cover of several magazines. It was in fact Marlon Brando! He said “I’ve never in my life been attracted to a man, but the young Brando had an appeal that transcended just being physically handsome. It was intense & indescribable unless you had actually met him.” His acting is legendary & his lifestyle questionable at best but no one can deny he had a very unique quality & yes, beautiful in his youth.
He didn’t care what anyone thought and loved life to the fullest. He was epic and so talented. He is studied in acting as one of the greatest! You still don't need to think of them as encounters. This is just a bunch of rumors and sensational speculation at best. Kate Buford, author of Burt Lancaster, An American Life (2000), stated in an interview in regard to Lancaster's supposed bisexuality: "It was like a hall of mirrors. I'd hear a story, and then the person would deny it. In the end, I couldn't confirm anything, though it seems that those categories - bi, straight, gay - meant nothing to him." Seems? To whom? The James Dean thing comes from a 2016 biography of Dean, also from Marlon Brando Unzipped. Both of these "biographies" were done well after the principals were gone, and rely on innuendo and questionable anecdote. That Dean straddled the sexual line is well-known, but he and Brando were not noted as being chummy when they were the hot young males in Hollywood in the 1950s. Brando was quoted as saying Dean was "using last year's Method, and wearing last year's jacket" in "Rebel Without a Cause". Of course that was just Brando being dominant in the relationship, right? Suppositions about actors and actresses have been popular since performers became sort-of respectable parts of culture. Actors and actresses do many roles and live what to many people seem to be colorfully unorthodox lives, so fantasies are woven about their private lives. Most of the ideas are just that - fantasies.
@@weveri6 However, they’re icons and powerful as far as their fame goes. Even straight people can have non-sexual crushes on the same sex; someone they look up to or admire or who just oozes charisma that they want to be around. Sexuality is complex.
Dude, you got some pushback here from the men. I agree with you, but it’s possible that it might be more imaginable for women to admit to such things. A lot of men are horrified by the notion. I’ve always thought that was funny because that means that they can’t imagine what you would be doing with them as a woman… Right if men are so unappealing… That’s funny. But I couldn’t agree with you more that sexuality is very complex. It’s very interesting and sometimes it feels as if it’s the final frontier. We rationalize everything else to death well, and even sex

I laughed out loud when the video described his adoration for Wally Cox as the man he loved most of all, so much so that his will stipulated that his ashes be mixed with Cox's. Brando was something else.

@Let's Talk hush drag queen

Marlon Brando is amongst the most attractive and talented people of all time, his lifetime and beyond. The fact that he co mingled his beliefs and life with other nationalities of people in true love as an artist continues. ❤
"I could a been a contender, but let's face it, I'm just a bum.' epic line.
The lines are: "I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am. Let's face it."
Brando and Wally Cox...now that was a surprise. James Dean and Burt Lancaster, I never would have thought of them as Brando encounters.
WALY COX WAS OLD NEWS. PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT THAT EVEN WHEN BOTH WERE ALIVE.
You still don't need to think of them as encounters. This is just a bunch of rumors and sensational
speculation at best. Both of these "biographies" were
done well after the principals were gone, and rely on innuendo and questionable anecdote. That Dean
straddled the sexual line is well-known, but he and Brando were not noted as being chummy when
they were the hot young males in Hollywood in the 1950s. Brando was quoted as saying Dean was
"using last year's Method, and wearing last year's jacket" in "Rebel Without a Cause". Of course that was
just Brando being dominant in the relationship, right?
Suppositions about actors and actresses have been popular since performers became sort-of respectable parts of culture. Actors and actresses do many roles and live what to many people seem
to be colorfully unorthodox lives, so fantasies are woven about their private lives. Most of the ideas
are just that - fantasies.
@@weveri6
However, they’re icons and powerful as far as their fame goes. They utilize their sexuality along with their social power to allow them to do what is in fantasy of average guy like me and you. That’s human nature. I would do the same if I was that much famous and wealthy. Wouldn’t you do it ? What it was said in the above clip, with some variation, is reality based.
@@weveri6 ::
Maybe Brando wanted the part in "Rebel" ? Actors can be self-centered. I guess that's why they're in that business ?
Many artist believe in free love Lord Byron Percy Shelly and Mary Shelly .to name a few .
A handsome genius who was ahead of his time and displayed a bravery and complexity not only in his work but personally by standing for causes that few championed at a time in American history where others would have been blacklisted or destroyed permanently. Having said that, Marlon Brando had a sadistic, dark side that broke many hearts, both male and female. There were also many whispers and rumors surrounding the death and homicides involving his adult children. He was accused of unspeakable behavior involving his daughter Cheyenne who committed suicide after her half-brother shot and killed her husband. This one-of-a-kind actor, artist, film director and activist will never be forgotten. His timeless body of work are masterpieces and speak to his incredible gifts and talents to this day.
Marlon Brando was a very complex man and extremely intelligent. I do not think he cared for white women he preferred exotic women to an ordinary American woman He was never faithful to any of his wives and had a highly sexual life. A fantastic actor one of the best he lived life his way.
He was stunning, a rebel and lived his life on his own terms.
I'm not surprised men and women we're attracted to him
He was stunning, wild with a very distinct personality
I'd have loved to have met him.😊
@Radha...His female counterpart, from what I read about him, must be Peggy Guggenheim. Both lived life to their own requirements.
Radha Sen Why?! You would have been one of many in the queue. So just as well you didn't.
@@jayyoung4534 Sexual addiction is not a pretty sight. Particularly tragic when the addict is very successful in other ways. This means that the very successful addict is a tormented soul and in a peculiar way, enhances their talents(in this case, acting). I am not surprised Brando ended up so over-weight. Maybe when his attractiveness started to wane, raiding the fridge in the middle of the night became a habit.
@@joexuereb607 Very insightful, on a professional level, which means an objective level. So, thank you.
blinded by beauty, what was that handsome man that went around killing women? There will never be another like him!
They don't make movies like that anymore either so yeah, stick to TCM
I'm afraid there are plenty like him, sadly.
A beacon of singularity, originality, and freedom. Nothing he did was programmed. He was impassioned by love, beauty, and justice. Marlon will be loved from now to eternity.
I think you just admire him because he was into men
@@mymindseyesees2002 homosexuality, heterosexuality, etc., are frames that are very real and form the internal logic of our existence. And for this reason, I am always facinated when this frame or enframing is somehow "threaten" by an overflow... Marlon makes me think of that fascinating excess.

It was his life. He did what he wanted to. He was famous enough, handsome enough and sexy enough to get away with scandals that would have ended the career of a lesser man. It’s wrong to lose your privacy just because your famous. It’s wrong for others to judge the choices you make in life. He tried very hard to live outside the norms of society. He over indulged and it cost him his health and then his life. I’m sorry he didn’t write a book or do a documentary that would allow him to express his feelings about the world and his place in it. He’s gone now and there is so little on film of him being himself. I won’t think of how he lived personally because that’s not important to me. Instead his films are there to remind us of his greatest professional moments, to be enjoyed by everyone. That’s how he should be remembered.
He actually made footage of him talking to himself for when he had seering panic attacks. There is a documentary about it. I THINK it's called "Listen to me, Marlon.
I too ADORED him, in ALL his quirkiness, weight fluctuations and scandals. Because he was always BRANDO, true to himself.
I also believe he could have had a more settled life if he was medicated to some degree. His father was a BEAST and Marlon suffered his ENTIRE life because of him. When his father died he said he finally felt FREE.
He was the best and worst . An odd, beautiful, sensuous, FUNNY, troubled man that lived life on his own terms.
Very loving father to his many children.
I miss him so much.
enlightened you are. all true what you said. society is connected to agendas and not to what is truly important (imo) brando was molded by his traumas, he could read people far better than me (and i’m very good at it) and that is a liability more than a gift. it was that sharp perception i think is where he could insert himself into the character. he was beautiful in every sense.

There are ppl who don’t love sex
Even straight people can have non-sexual crushes on the same sex; someone they look up to or admire or who just oozes charisma that they want to be around. Sexuality is complex.
Although Brando seemingly had actual _sex_ with these men, so one must wonder.
@@joshargan1601 Oh, yes he was bi. I'm just saying something additional.
No bro… that’s pretty gay no straight guy has a crush on a man
No we can’t; I’ve never looked at another man with sexual interest you derelict idiot.
I have always thought his acting skills were over rated. So many other men were far better, such as Montgomery Clift.

I laughed out loud when the video described his adoration for Wally Cox as the man he loved most of all, so much so that his will stipulated that his ashes be mixed with Cox's. Brando was something else.
Well one thing about him, he lived his life exactly how he wanted to. He didn’t bend to anybody else’s opinion. Not saying it was good , but he certainly called the shots in his own life.
He is what he is and nobody has the right to judge solely with any mans standard.
Brando was very handsome, beautiful, incredible sexual charisma, sensual, brilliant actor, a great social justice advocate, a philosopher in his older age, spoke his mind, displayed fortitude and did not buy into the BS of Hollywood or social media. He was openly bisexual and did not care for the homophobic people. We need more of his type in 2021 and beyond.
