Thanks for your video! I am working on a 3 x 3 lonestar using a jelly roll of 2 1/2 inch wide strips sewn into stripsets of 3. I seem to be ok assembling each of the 8 large diamonds. I am running into trouble with the background. I tried both ‘set in seams (y-seam)’ and triangles sewn along the straight side of the diamond, which looks like how you did yours. My question is how to determine what size the background pieces need to be. My star lays flat but my background is buckled, and I think it is because the background size is incorrect.
