  • The Victoria Arduino Eagle One is currently on a World Tour before it goes into production in March 2020.
    We've managed to get hold of one of the very first models which will be spending the next couple of weeks on show at our Roastery.
    If you'd like a closer look, why not join us on the 2nd March when we'll be opening our doors and allowing people to get hands on with this machine.
    In the meantime here are our first impressions . . .

    Im currently considering having VA Eagle One or La Marzocco KB90, VA being more favorable due to its price. What are your thoughts on comparison between VA and La Marzocco?

    • @carvetiicoffee
      @carvetiicoffee  4 роки тому +2

      Yerik Abilov I have both the Eagle one and a Linea PB here (not the KB90). In all honesty I prefer working on the VA kit. While I appreciate how well built the Marzocco machines are, I increasingly question the cost of spares. I can buy VA spares significantly cheaper than LM spares and the ongoing cost of running a machine has to be a consideration. Good luck

    Thank you for this quick review . I have some inquiries.
    does the back flash hot water mechanism eliminate or reduce the daily regular water back flash with blind basket .
    Another question where does it stand compared to Adonis and white eagle and is it suitable for a medium cafe load?.

    • @carvetiicoffee
      @carvetiicoffee  4 роки тому

      You still have to do the daily backflush (no getting away with that). I don’t have any experience with the Adonis but have a White Eagle T3. Depends on what you need. Price wise the T3 is better but has a large footprint. To me the key aspect of the Eagle One is its footprint, maximising your working space. Even the 3 Grp has a small footprint. Hope that helps

    If I were opening a coffee shop I'd go for fully automatic and have customers input and save their creations. My son-in-law owns a restaurant and we're looking at a fully automatic so they can add more exotic coffee to the menu.

    • @carvetiicoffee
      @carvetiicoffee  3 роки тому +2

      I definitely think fully automatic machines have their place, but maybe not in a coffee shop setting. It will depend on whether the quality of the beverage is an important factor. Even though fully automatic machines are indeed getting better, they still lag behind a skilled barista. In a restaurant setting I get it, where the food is the main event, a fully automatic makes sense, frees up staff and minimises training needs. In a coffee shop setting, where perception is often critical, traditional machines in my opinion, are currently the best option.

    • @DJaquithFL
      @DJaquithFL 3 роки тому

      @@carvetiicoffee .. The generation today likes technology and the perception of total control. I guess it depends upon which fully automatic espresso machines were talking about, the high-end ones can certainly replicate the best of baristas out there and more importantly time after time at a push of a button. I'm not saying that there's not some person standing behind the counter just smiling at you. Further in the future these machines can do on the fly dissolve solids testing addition to pH and other tests. It's here now...

    • @carvetiicoffee
      @carvetiicoffee  3 роки тому +2

      We work with some very sophisticated fully automatic machines as well as traditional options. We’re currently about to pilot a self serve option with one of our customers. They definitely have a place and I can see them getting better all the time, hence getting involved in the pilot. They are particularly good when coffee has been roasted specifically for them but I have yet to come across a machine that makes the most out of a specialty, lighter roasted coffee. Consistent absolutely, and in the right setting they are the right machine. But not in all settings.

      Hi just found out that my original reply did not upload for some reason! The machine in the video was pretty much the first to come into the UK and I only had access to it for three weeks. However, lockdown happened so it ended up staying here for pretty much 4 months giving me more time to use it. All of my espresso videos on this channel were filmed on that machine. Both myself and the team have enjoyed using the machine and I'd happily have one here if there was room! The auto purge was my only gripe - I couldn't disable it and as we always extract onto scales I have doused them in hot water multiple times - my failing not the machines!

    Which one is better? Dalla Corte or Arduino?

    • @carvetiicoffee
      @carvetiicoffee  2 роки тому

      I only have experience of some older Dalla Corte models so I can’t fairly comment. However the Dalla Corte uses a 53/54mm portafilter and I prefer using a 58mm. You can get a much wider range of accessories for 58mm portafilters

    Open the back and show us the circuits? This does not look anything like Mr. Hoffman described. That is to say he created an app friendly machine, which uses electronics which in term are not carbon friendly to produce. Can the machine work in manual mode without apps? Computer controlled machines, are great. But being able to simply service analogue heating and cooling components would have been a helluva lot more impressive.
    Reduced parts count is what I want to see. This machine looks like it has added more digital controls. A coffee shop should have a machine that has a box of parts included with each machine, that is the more pragmatic. Give the service parts an honest MTBF rating and let the coffee shop owners turn a few screws and be up and running. This machine fails on all those facets. Of course it might be more energy efficient. But so so goes the efficiency when the proprietary circuit boards are failing or useless.
    I don't want a machine to have firmware. I want a machine to have parts which could theoretically be machined in a pinch by somebody else. Smartphone machine...yuck.
    We need less complex circuits.

    • @carvetiicoffee
      @carvetiicoffee  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. To be honest when I had the opportunity to use this machine the App was in development and everything was undertaken manually. I had a little look at an example of the App but it definitely was not necessary to use the machine fully.
      We operate our own tech support department to provide service and repair backup for our customers, so ease of access to the machine, availability of spares, and quick repairs are all critical to us.
      In the past we worked with another manufacturer who produced amazing espresso machines, but the parts were often complex, unique to the manufacturer and expensive. We moved to work with Victoria Arduino in part because of the availability and cost of parts.
      The touch screen control on the machine is a definite plus as it makes day to day programming and adjustments really easy. Similarly the solenoid valve steam wands are a step forwards: the internals use fewer parts, they will last longer before repair and they are much quicker and easier to swap out.
      I agree with your sentiments, we live in an app centric world and personally I'm a little old school in that respect. This machine might not be a perfect solution but there are some definite welcome advancements here.
