I run home assistant in my Rv and it controls everything from lightbars to propane levels or cameras, I run a 10" android headunit and 2 more tablets with fully kiosk browser and just get the full HA lovelace ui which is super nice. the Android auto integration looks a bit like the smartwatch stuff ..basically still a long way to go until I would consider using it other than in a pinch when I have no other option.
Yep it is a first version, hopefully they get it easier to get to your items. I am actually trying to get a hold of a local van converter to maybe collab on a smart van concept. But for total control, I would still stick with a tablet. This is good for limited things like opening the garage door when your remote dies (that actually happened to me today).
The Navigation would be great to use on my Mobile also when riding our Bicycles so i can navigate to them Too , is this possible with out android Auto ?
The binary sensor is a bit useless really. I've been able to tell whether I'm in my car or my wife's car (and vice-versa) since I started using Home Assistant over two years ago. No need for anything other than a Bluetooth phone connection and certainly no need for Android Auto. You just create template sensors for each phone from the Bluetooth Attributes using each car's Bluetooth MAC address as the identifier.
That is true. But it is already done for you with this integration. You have to remember that they are attempting to attract a new group of users that are not as experienced with home assistant as we are.
Have you had good luck with the companion app updating your "home" status fast enough to make the garage door automation work? Mine makes me sit in the driveway too long.
Actually it works great (so far). I wrote the automation specifically for this video and I keep forgetting it is active. So I get surprised every time. I use multiple systems for presence detection. But right now the one that I think triggers it is my Google Maps location. I use a combination of the Home Assistant tracking, Google Maps, and ESPresense.
@@ThisSmartHouse okay, I'll have to dig a little more to see why my companion app isn't updating very quickly. Today it set me to away 10 minutes after I left the house. Also, kudos to your dedication for this video. Filming in that cold would not have been fun.
It is funny, I was complaining about the cold, but it is even colder this week. I keep trying to get my DJI Ronin to make that walking shot smooth, but it doesn't like to work in the cold!
This is an excellent video. Great to see. I totally enjoyed learning about this tech. Awesome!
Hey brother! Thanks for watching. Let's catch up next time you are back in KC!
Great video.
I miss a little support for climate entities, in order to, for example, turn on heat when you are close to home.
Regards.

Thx 4 the presentation.
You bet! Hope you liked it. I will try and do some shorter videos like this in the future. (Still takes me forever to edit).

Do you know if we will be able to get push notifications on the Android auto display?
Not sure, but I would love that as well. I don't see why not. It seems like a ton of apps already do it (Teams, Signal, etc).
