- Let's pin two of the best Bethesda RPGs against each other. The Elder Scolls V: Skyrim Vs Fallout New Vegas? Which one will come out on top? Well let's find out by comparing their game play, story, map, characters, and lore/side quests to one another

Obviously the environment in skyrim looks beautiful, did it get nuked? I think not
Fallout 4 manages to look beautiful with it's world. It comes down to stylistic choices. Just because a world is nuked doesn't make it not spectacular, if done correct the opposite is true.
Jeff well yea fallout 4 looks way better it wasn’t located in a desert plus had the all midi bob to shoot rad x seeds out of his melon
@@Sirnekk nah that’s just the graphics on an up to date console. Regardless, obsidian didn’t have time to make graphical improvements seeing as they had less than two years to develop the game. The world in NV is actually nice tho.
@@nathan-498 RDR2 has a desert area and it's beautiful to look at.
Lol
Imagine fallout new Vegas with the gameplay of fallout 4
You speak of the place I see in my dreams
UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.” “I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.”
fallout 4 new vegas
YES! The gunplay is awful in NV.
Split wood gaming literally the greatest RPG of all time
I’m my opinion I prefer new vegas than skyrim
You never mentioned vats or how you can make people explode with a hammer or shoot people to pieces with a mini gun in the gameplay part
Mr troller this guy acts like there’s only one type of gun.
I mean you can literally shout people to death, or turn into a werewolf and claw people to death and eat their corpses, or turn into a vampire lord and drain their life energy, or… well yeah there’s just a lot more variety.
Mini nukes are cool though.
Fallout games value story over than exploration, which is why the story is much better in New Vegas. New Vegas also takes much less time to start, making replaying actually fun and not an absolute chore. I prefer the gameplay of New Vegas more, the ammo types, unarmed system, DT system, and so forth are much better for me. The story in Skyrim is incredibly forgettable, it's just a cliche story about the player vs the dragons, blah blah blah boring. New Vegas has lots of choices and so forth. I prefer New Vegas' map because it is more logical and has a world that doesn't revolve around the player. Skyrim is just copy paste dungeons for the most part, so it doesn't engage the player for very long. The towns in Skyrim don't have any memorable characters and are mostly copy paste as well, if you've seen one you've seen them all. The side quests in New Vegas easily get the edge due to the complexity, Beyond the Beef should be studied by anyone looking to make RPGs. Nice comparisons though.
i agree
Besides environment/exploration, New Vegas does everything else better than Skyrim, and even there you could argue that New Vegas has more interesting locations/points of interest.
Even Obsidian got the dialogue boxes right Skyrim speech check are a joke
Witcher 3> Skyrim
@@mikeehrmantraut1899 I can’t even remember the player dialogue in skyrim LOL it’s so forgettable. I can remember over half of my new Vegas interactions.. Because my build actually has relevancy in those interactions.
I liked the new vegas intro. You start as Mr. Nobody, left for dead. And not as the chosen one that must save the world.
People of goodsprings and victor just help you because they are nice people and you were injured.
You nailed one of my biggest complaints with Skyrim. Nothing ever seems to matter. You can be the head of every Guild in Skyrim, but none of it actually amounts to anything.
Meanwhile, in New Vegas, you can work for Mr. House to gather everybody to the cause, but then usurp him at the last moment because all of those allies are loyal to YOU, not to him.
FNV feels like a table top RPG with real choices and consequences for actions. I especially like that (barring a one time amnesty from NCR and the Legion) you can never remove Infamy from factions. You can gain Fame to kind of/sort of offset it, to a point, but you will never be Liked by the Legion if you made them hate you.
Skyrim feels like a table top RPG with a DM that constantly railroads you. You're the chosen one because you have to be. You have to save the world and not conquer it because you have to. You can't betray your allies at the last moment except when the game allows you to. It's just so frustrating to make the character you want to in Skyrim.
NV I think had a better intro. I prefer almost everything in NV. Skyrim landscape is just boring NV makes me feel like I'm in a apocalypse.
Yeah, I think the NV intro is amazing. This is all in account of the opening with Benny. It opened so many role playing possibilities. It was a mystery, a vendetta, and an open ended scene where you can build any character you want. Love it.
I prefer a normal living world over an apoclypic world with invisible walls , I think skyrim is better than new Vegas overall
@@lightyagami8645 new vegas is way superior to skyrim bro dont troll like this
@@thisisquigone nah
i couldve swore this video was made in 2012
well made though. subbed
Guy kinda seems like he hasn’t played fallout new Vegas since it’s release
Really underrated review of these two classic games you sir have earned a subscriber
In Fallout New Vegas you can truly be a sadistic animal, you have more moral choices.
Play the Dawnguard DLC in Skyrim, the Vampire companion you get (Seranna) is easily the best companion in the game, although it won't change the outcome of the review.
ChrisMDB The voice actress who plays Serrana happens to also play a companion, Christine, in a DLC, Dead Money.
@@CV-Moore She’s also the voice for the female courier. 😬
not better than any companion in fnv
3:59 best thing i have ever seen
8:10 not technical limitations, they had only 12-16 months to make the game.
18 but still great point
Great video! You really deserve more subs. Hats off to you my friend.
lol fnv was my first fallout and i wanted to quit after playing for 5 minutes but i kept playing and i loved it
Same. When i first started playing i was like : what is this shit.
Then i played more, and now i love the game so much
I love them both. And its my tradition to play them yearly 😍
Woah, man you deserve more subs!
Hey guys, hope you enjoy the video.
you forgot the memes
The super mutant is a girl dude.
Really good video my man, you’ve got a new subscriber, for the quality of the content you really should have more subscribers going by this video at least, but yeah,gr8 video m8!
I am hoping back on the grind. I take really long hiatuses since this channel is just a hobby. Appreciate the love tho
To be honest, this is like comparing apples and oranges. The emphasis on player choice and story-driven world building but less of a go wherever you please attitude (Obsidian's design approach) is a lot different from the focus on exploration and open-ended gameplay but less player consequence (Bethesda's approach).
It's why I feel comparing the two is counterintuitive. It's only regularly done because the same publisher was involved, but the two game philosophies couldn't be more black and white. It's really personal preference as to what's "more fun" or worth the greater time investment.
What about fallout 4 vs Skyrim? You can chop heads off on fo4, and Both stories were equally boring
This is why Alternate Start mod is a thing. I don’t want to play as The Sole Survivor looking for his/her son and I don’t want to play as The Dragonborn escaping Helgen looking for Alduin The World Eater.
Gameplay Cinematics:
Skyrim has a very low chance of showing a cool cinematic animation, while New Vegas shows cinematics frequently, with limbs flying off, heads exploding, and deadpan cinematic shots of your character loading up, there is more variety here for New vegas, more satisfaction from these cinematics, and you get to see these a lot more frequently.
Gameplay melee weapons:
Skyrim has a melee weapons that all feel very similar, with some swinging slower, doing more damage, and the odd effect it applies when enchanted. New Vegas has a large assortment of melee weapons that don't rely on special effects to add a burning effect, or a slight slow down, while there is some of that, you have fist that explode, fist that pushback, and each melee weapon feels quite different, from the animation, to whether it works as a stealth weapon or not etc. There is just more diversity in melee weapons in New Vegas, and they actually feel quite different.
Gameplay Ranged weapons:
Skyrim has magic and bows, and while magic is interesting, bows on the other hand are very standard, you can melee, or you can charge up a attack. Magic could of been a lot better, but it is definitely one of the more interesting parts of Skyrim's combat, but most of the time it usually falls into conjure familiar>ranged attack>heal if you need to. New Vegas' core combat is ranged, with many weapons to use, each one feeling different, guns or energy weapons, nukes or grenades, calling a giant beam to fall out of the sky, long ranged or shotgun, or mid ranged weapon etc. Along with all of this, most weapons feel very different, from animation, to accuracy, to different scopes, to range, to fire rate, on and on and on...
Also you can pickpocket fused dynamite into peoples pockets to kill them... oh and vats, but that's just the icing on top
Overall New Vegas has very diverse combat options, with a lot of the weapons performing and feeling very different, usually resulting in switching up weapons depending on what you're doing, or who you're facing. While Skyrim has weapons and spells that all perform and feel very similar, usually just coming down to which one does more damage, so in the end you usually don't switch out weapons that much, and your stuck doing the same combat through most of the game. Mods like Wildcat, apocalypse, ordinator, leveled enemies, animal behaviour mods etc. will make your experience a lot better, but even then I feel as if New Vegas' combat feels much better, even without mods.
As much as I agree, there is one thing New Vegas lacks and Skyrim has. And that is sprinting. Personally, as much as I absolutely love New Vegas to death, I could not get over the fact there was no sprinting. Thankfully nowadays, mods address issues like these. Because there are times where I feel you need to run your ass away from danger. Like why the hell am I casually jogging when there’s a massive deathclaw running after me like he’s Sonic the Hedgehog?
@@nicholascauton9648 oh yes, the SPRINT WHY THERE IS NO SPRINT IN FNV....
The courier always wins
No love for maik the liar? Or the daedric prince of madness? Those are my two favorite es characters
I thought I was seeing a video with +30k views wtf lol, you deserve much more views and subscribers.
damn right
Its 30k now
I dont care much about the fantasy aesthetic. Fallout is more my type
Pretty good points man, good job
Wtf..watching this video I was like wow this is a nice video I went to go drop a like and realize you only have 1k subscribers and double digit likes .. i was totally expecting like 80k likes .. nice video man
I think better ways to compare them should include:
- GUI/controls (FONV is so much more intuitive and the map is much more practical, with simple, subsistent button designations, and easier to use menus).
- Quality of life features, such as map markers for MIA followers, immortal followers in easy mode, paused screens while in conversation, etc (which FONV is better at, IMO).
- Bugs (FONV, even with its bugs, trumps vanilla, unmodded Skyrim).
Overall, FONV is easier to navigate and enjoy, due to the streamlined, intuitive and easy to use controls/features. This makes it much more accessible for me. Skyrim's many bugs and unfinished systems have created numerous situations where I've missed whole conversations between NPCs, stolen objects whilst trying to simply move them out of the way, accidentally dropped/sold/equipped items while buying/moving items between NPCs/followers, and the list goes on.
Funny but I find FONV unintuitive and clunky. The maps are horrible and quest markers difficult to use.
@@SevenThunderfulyeah, NV is pretty infamous for it’s clunkiness and bugginess.
Don’t get me wrong, Skyrim is to, but nowhere to the same extent.
I think their letting their love of NV overtake their reason when it comes to this.
New Vegas is much better game imo. Skyrim with mods may come close, but New Vegas has huge amount of mods as well.
You and I are just alike. I actually prefer New Vegas over Skyrim by a single strand of trimmed hair. In fact if I were to give a top five favorite video games of all time and these two were to end up on that list, New Vegas would be number one and Skyrim would be number two.
Edit 1 year later:
As much as I love New Vegas, there is one thing I just cannot ignore. And that is the lack of sprinting. It's something that has always bothered me especially when you take into account that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out three years before New Vegas. Which makes me wonder why didn't they (Obsidian) do that even with only 18 months to develop a game. Despite that, I'm thankful we have mods to fix the missteps.
Slightly upset he didn’t mention Sheogorath in character section, cus he is def my fav Skyrim character
He is also oblivions main character
I personally find the gameplay of NV more compelling than Skyrim. Every weapon impacts its target in a more visceral way for me. You shoot someone with a plasma rifle? They turn to goo. Punch someone with a power fist? Their limbs go flying off. Peg someone in the head with a .50 caliber rifle? Their head explodes into a dozen pieces. While the combat might be a bit more refined in Skyrim, I always just feel like I’m basically picking whatever effect I want to see while I’m killing them. What element do I want firing out of my hands for maximum damage? Or which sword/axe/mace do I have is the strongest? Shouts are the best thing Skyrim had going for it. Interesting skills you learn and improve as you explore the world. Shouts help with utility, damaging enemies, and just fun applications (we’ve all Fus-Ro-Dah’d a goat off a mountain). I get they’re limited by their “medieval” setting, but it’d be cooler to see more varied types of combat. I think crossbows were a great inclusion, I wish they had expanded on them more. Modding the crossbow in a way similar to FNV or Fallout 4 even. You could have automatic crossbows, sniper cross bows (maybe make a basic scope for the sniper as well). Many more bolt types as well to add customization to them.
Good argument! Avid Fallout player here, but now I'm interested in trying Skyrim too~
Wayy too underrated channel
The fighting in Skyrim is better in my opinion. Blocking and slamming their head with your staff on the axe feels great. Vats is fun, but gets old to where combat is just a thing that is "there". Looting wise, I prefer Fallout due to how you can find different stuff every time. Skyrim looks better to explore, but Fallout's locations are better. Anyways,
Fighting- Skyrim
Looting- Fallout
Story- Fallout
Exploring- Skyrim
Locations- Fallout
Characters- Skyrim
Replayability- Skyrim
Lastly, ending- FALLOUT JESUS THAT DAM FIGHT IS FUCKING ASTOUNDING GOD YES
TBH i like the characters in skyrim i can remember them cuz there with me through my adventure when they die i all ways pay respects and cry.
R.I.P lydia
Is it just me or does Skyrim's NPC animations seem more robotic? A perfect example is when they first hear the dragon growling in the intro look how they all look up at the sky at the same time with the same clunky animation
If FNV was 3 years instead of 18 months, it would've been the alpha rpg, it would've have at least 204 side quests instead of the 102, but we can only dream.
And they would have been able to polish the game, fix the bugs.
Add more guns,armors,quests Etc
Man, you deserve more subscribers
I appreciate comments like these man. I've finally got some of my passion back, thanks to people like you. You caught me as I was editing my new video which is coming out in a couple of hours. Thank you.
@@Sirnekk Oh haha I wasn't expecting you to reply but you're welcome! Honestly dude, you kinda remind me of a UA-camr I watch. You might know him, his name is Gubz. He does Marvel/DC stuff, and you guys are oddly similar hahaha. You'll go big someday man, just keep working! :)
"I'm going to have a lot of hate because of this"
No.
"Get out the way lydia!"
Late comment that doesn’t even matter but gameplay should’ve been wrapped around flow and leveling up, not which is better swords and magic which can be as dull as shooting and swinging. Map Should’ve been based on size and how well they used it, as well as how the narrative had you explorer the map
I used to be an adventurer like you....
I prefer the subtly of the New Vegas intro, something about it just really dragged me into this world, when the Skyrim one just confused me
I'd prefer something inbetween
@@Sirnekk I understand that, but I think the Benny speech makes up for the less exciting start
I'm the only one who prefers Skyrim?
BOLOGNA MAPPING I prefer it as well
You're not alone fam
I prefer Skyrim by a long mile. But I'm not a fan of first person shooters.
What about soundtracks?
What the hell u can turn into a dam warwolf
I agree what's also very annoying about Skyrim is the whole Dragonborn thing is such a let-down you're supposed to be this legendary Warrior meant to destroy a dragon who wants to destroy the world and almost nobody talks about it there's only one or two times you actually get to use your name as Dragonborn and every now and then guards will talk about you being Dragonborn but that's about it what is the point of you being Dragonborn if nobody talks about it they all just treat you like a nobody when you're supposed to be the legendary hero it's so stupid
PATRICK STEWART VOICED THE EMPEROR IN OBLIVION, NOT SKYRIM!!!
U did fallout so wrong with the intro gameplay
Patrick Stewart was the last emperor who died...
Oh wait.
i love skyrim but i love fallout nv way more
They both got their pros and cons
Super sledge hammer is the equivalent of an axe, the intros are virtually the same, both boring and set the scene for the game, both do their purpose as INTROS. Also, you can entirely skip the intro in fnv which u can't in skyrim. The world of fallout is easily far more immersive as its the actually world we live in and is a possibility for our future. Ofcourse skyrim has a prettier landscape, as it wasn't nuked and is not a dessert mainly made up of Mountains or flat landscapes, true to the actual location of New vegas, making it that more immersive. Wrote this as the video played to refute the points he made I didn't agree with, surprised that fnv won, just goes to show how good fnv is.
IDK why but I just really can get into Fallout NV. I played fallout 3 and 4 and enjoyed the hell out of them but NV just seems too monotone and slow to me.
You are wrong. Simple as that
Hey I don't know if you'll respond to me but is ceasers legion in fallout new vegas a remade guild from the imperial legion in sky rim because I've been playing sky rim and have realised the both legions are very similar also if this is the case would this mean they are both in the same universe
no it isn't they have nothing to do with each other and fallout is not in the same universe as skyrim
Seven years later: Fallout New Vegas still beats Skyrim and legend Sir Nekk welcomes Fallout television fans!
Skyrim lets you choose from different races and lets you choose how you want to play the game. That’s what an RPG should be.
Skyrim let’s you play quest lines with almost zero agency
New Vegas has much more options how you want to build your character and complete quests. You can become anyone you want, while Skyrim is pretty limited in this regard
basic skyrim fan comments be like
Both are EPICALLY GOOD GAMES!If I was told at gunpoint & was given the choice of nvr playing one of these games again but I could play one of them again as many times as I wanted,I would have to go (& this is a no brainier for me)for Fallout New Vegas without a doubt, bugs & all! It’s the greater masterpiece out of 2 masterpieces!

I used to love skyrim until I got an arrow to my knee
i still dont understand about fallout?
I love both but I grew up with fallout
What about oblivion or morrowind vs fallout 2?
They are far diffrent from each other

fallout newvegas was my first fallout game ever and i hated it when i was younger the monsters scared the shit out of me so i played skyrim instead but now i love new vegas it has a feel that i love the monsters are scary but it jut makes it more fun to shot them up. newvegas is my favorite game of es. and fallout.
Honestly new Vegas felt a lot more fun and i refer to the side quests

Gameplay new Vegas wins Skyrim has magic which gives it an edge but ultimately it’s just more projectiles while vats is a whole mechanic over Skyrim. Point to new Vegas . Story is pretty much the same as he said . Point to new Vegas. Map I would like to give to new Vegas. But yeah. Point to Skyrim. The other two categories go to new Vegas for reasons explained in the video
Skyrim vs Oblivion?
Skyrim!
Oblivion
Morrowind
Both (but only complaints about the game is bugs )
'nails the ILLUSION of choice' doesn't make sense
new vegas is the better in my opinion mainly because it was my first game that i bought, owned, and it was my first game period
Fallout New Vegas is my 2nd favourite game EVER!!Sorry F’NV but my first couple of playthroughs of Shenmue when the DREAMCAST 1st came out remains the greatest gaming experience I’ve ever had & probably will be my all time favourite game until I kick the bucket!
skyrim needed to get a point shouting pepolle off buildings being able to be a thief a darkbroohter hood a mage and a warrier
I think none of the games win for 2 reasons
Both games were developed by different companies
Skyrim is a more streamlined rpg and New Vegas is true rpg for a niche audience
True! But Skyrim gives more freedom. As opposed to NV's 'do the quest in Goodsprings, then move on to Primm, then Mojave Outpost, then Nipton, Novac, Boulder City, etc.' & the factions on Skyrim feels like you can actually join them; they show you to your room/bed, they do quest with you, they can be your companions, etc as opposed to "here's a key to our secret stash far away from here. Now get out of our face"
@Rana you can ignore towns cause there's literally nothing to do there. In Skyrim u can get a job, chop wood, be a blacksmith, miner, be a gardener, enchant, etc.

To be honest. More like what genre you like.
If you like Fantasy type game: *elder scrolls*
If you like post apocalypse game: *fallout*
I think its more if you like action or rpg
There's a sixth category, popularity or fanbase... I hate to say it but the fans of Elder Scrolls is what re-ties this comparison match-up. Yeah, skyrim is not the best Elder Scrolls game by far. But you gotta admit that's what makes it so insane, the fact that it outdid Fallout in sales and popularity and ESO and so forth. i man the thing just blew up so big it's ridiculous. that's gotta count for something...
WOOHOO TEAM NEW VEGAS! URAH!
i love new vegas as its so much more smooth and calming
They're both still empty as fuck and still fun and enjoyable
And gameplay magic gets old...
Turning an entire location into a sniper laden mine field Deathclaws worse nightmare is not comparable it's just way more fun
Now your fanboying
The turning a whole fort of thalmor into a joke is way more fun than new Vegas
New Vegas gameplay is atrocious
@@lightyagami8645 Stealth Killing an entire fort using a Suit that turns you into a Shroud is way more fun
So point to skyrim on satisfying throat slices and kill animations
But fallout gameplay isn't exactly atrocious however it has generally slower laid back Nostalgia feeling gameplay
Shooting can get bland after awhile
But get you a few stealth boys, an army of companions or some Grx implants and slow mo killing a Battlefield of enemies becomes quite satisfying
Both Skyrim And Fallout have their absolute badass moments
I just dislike the blandness of those stupid magic animations
Love the runes and when you summon though Love the shouts and everything
I can't pick between the two
Really what I'm in the mood for
Used to hate Skyrim in a way well more of Too Painful to play after my ex left

Kharjo shit on fallout players yes?

Even a certain Dlc from New Vegas can give skyrim a go
New Vegas every time!Skyrim is a triple A game & New Vegas is the only Fallout game to trump Skyrim(I’m looking at you Fallout 3)by quite a distance imo.Skyrim is epic! Only Fallout New Vegas isn’t just the best 360 rpg but it’s legitimately one of the finest games on ANY console of any era.The only game that beats it without even a debate in my head as the best gaming experience ever is the 1st time I played through the truly revolutionary & most unique game EVER (especially for it’s time)that is the masterpiece called SHENMUE!
