I recently moved into my very own house! Check the vlog about that here: goo.gl/K18Z2e
And i've been working on some DIY project around the house. The first thing to tackle was setting up my home office with a giant diy wall to wall desk. ps. big thanks to Austin for helping me put this together!

wow this is the simplest, best, foolproof DIY desk that i find to be the most practical out of all DIY desks i've seen on youtube since every other video requires a full on woodshop. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS GEM!

If I were you, I'd do a finish to the wood. I just think you'll be happier with it, even if it's more work to do. Sanding and putting a clear finish on it doesn't change the look much, but the feeling.

You should use wipe-on poly (polyurethane). It protects the timber nicely and enhances the natural colour and grain (it will just darken it as tho the timber is wet!). It's also really easy to apply and comes in different finishes such as gloss, satin and matte.

Celine Ertzinger 100% agree! As soon as she spills anything or even make up on the bare wood its going to stain the wood. Need something to seal the wood even a water based semi or matte

My favorite easy DIY desk top is to get a flat hollow core door from Home Depot or Lowes and put it on half height file cabinets, shelf units, or the trestle style legs like you did. The hollow core door is nice and light, but also sturdy and rigid enough and they come in a variety of widths, so it's easy to have a massive, substantial work surface that's easy to move too. In college I did this and stuck the door to the cabinets with poster putty so it would stay put but also be easy to take apart when it was time to move.

I've been working on my dream desk concept for a while too. I've come to realize an important part for me is also having plenty of leg space in front of me. My desk plans are calling for a desk that is at least 30 inches deep! I know it will make my desk HUGE and take up a lot of space. *BUT* I think it's a small price to pay for total desk comfort. Good luck to you! thanks for sharing!

3:09 Soo.. you can shorten the legs ..all you don't is find the a nice flat level area..(i.e. that room) Figure out what amount needs to come off and cut a scrap piece to that height etc. now sit the scrap on the floor next to the trellis and mark with a pen or marking knife (repeat for rest of legs) then hand saw following marked guides

i like how you did your office! as a designer, I'm pretty impress by the outcome! one thing troubles me is that those planks will sag as time passes by, you need a support the center or don't put too much heavy stuff on the counter

So cool. You could also just use flat metal brackets or L brackets on the underside to hold the wood together and even mount it to the wall for added stability. I love this. Especially just using 2x10s. So much more affordable than sheets of lumber. I'm going to do this.

you should never use u finished wood as a finished product. Especially on a desk. It'll get smudgy and dirty in no time and you'll never be able to clean it because the wood works like a sponge if it comes to liquids and other dirt

Great video and pretty cool outcome. Not much DYI but the creative aspect is what draws me in. You're lucky your boyfriend is so patient/understanding, never tell someone building something for you you couldve done it yourself! Thats why it was left unfinished lmao easily coulda easily hit it w 150- 220 grit at least + stain and or finish. Never question, belittle, or over simplify a job you can't do unless you want to settle for less. People spend a lifetime perfecting something you so easily say you couldve done yourself

A tip for cutting down legs- especially angled ones: Use a spacer block of thickness equal to height you want to remove then scribe around the leg with pencil using block. Then cut along line, making sure kerf of blade is on waste side of line. This works on tables, chairs, barstools, etc.

This is so creative. I love the use of space and the fact that a huge, wall-to-wall table works so wonderfully with the room is very refreshing! I'm so inspired by this, I would love to apply this idea to my room, but I have some concerns. I'm planning to do exactly what you did, but the table is facing a wide, wall-to-wall and low reaching window. I have enough space to install the table but I feel like the window, curtains and grills might look messy and cluttered if I faced the table in such directions. What should I do to minimise the clutter and make it look clean and neat? Thank you!

    Hi Becky!
My names Cody, I have recently just subscribed to your guys' channel a few months ago and I completely adore both your style and Kelsey's style! Your guys' projects always turn out great, especially the desk and the planter box (which might be y next project) :)
    I LOVE DIYs!
I have recently just moved into a house with my boyfriend and some friends and have been hard at work making our bedroom home-y. I saw this video and decided I HAD to have this desk. So here is a comment to say thank you for the design! I am completely in love with the way mine turned out and I can't wait to start doing work on it!
I would love to share my picture with you, so let me know and I can send you what I did to mine. I had to build my own cabinet from scratch to fit the space we have, and I varathaned the table top because we always have our window open and I didn't want to ruin the wood, otherwise it's pretty identical to what you have aha
Keep up the wonderful work you two!

A few other ideas, for use in a standard-lumber-based office setup: Use smooth panes of glass on top of the wood as a finished desk surface. Any good glass / windshield repair shop should be able to supply this. I have seen a single thick pane of glass used as a cover for a round, wooden tabletop, and it works. It makes for a nicer surface to sign documents on. for the trouble you went to, you could also have done away with the IKEA sawhorse by constructing ledges of layers 2 x4s to set your lumber shelf on. Your setup is neat, but looks like it could use some cable management.

I love this d.i.y. desk, and you have given me some great ideas, as I am about to do the same with some Anna Griffin craft furniture. I'm thinking about making the same type of desktop with either multiple boards, or one big board. Would it work to glue and nail a piece of decorative trim down the front edge, a little wider than the edge of the board to hide the rough edge and the support boards underneath? Or would that just look weird?
