I don't think burn in on OLED screens is a big concern. I mean - my phone screen is an OLED screen, and even after all the hours I've spent watching RetroRGB content, I still don't have Bob's face burned in the center of my screen. xD
Not only is it a concern but it is an inevitable result of the technology. Newer panels are very good of delaying it, especially for the lifetime of a phone. But I would be very surprised if any OLED TVs last longer than 10 years without noticeable burn in.
@@BHFFS I've got a b6, now 8 years old, with no burn-in. It hasn't been our main TV for a while, but we still use it. Newer TV's are much more resistant to burn-in than that one.
Burn-in on TV's is not really an issue anymore, unless you're doin something like leaving news or sports playing all day.
It might be more of an issue for monitors used for productivity use that heavily focuses on a few apps with fixed UI elements.
Monitors used primarily for gaming or media use are probably fine for long-term use.
@@quinnocent I had a C7 that had burn in within 3 years. So one year newer than your B6. Try playing a youtube burn in test. I would be surprised if you notice absolutely nothing. A major factor is what kind of content you watch, particularly stuff with static images. My spouse had CNN on a good bit and the CNN logo was permanently burned in. Basically as the individual pixels get used they lose intensity. The only way to avoid burn in on a very long timeline is to use them uniformly which isn't really practical.

The problem isn't just retained image. Most modern oLed have logic in the controller now to burn all the pixels out evenly so you don't notice, but the overall brightness and saturation WILL become less over time.

Now that the DE-10 nano is being cloned, the flood gates are now open for other variants and more powerful hardware. Happy to continue on my existing MiSTer stack, but damn is it getting exciting for the future of FPGA gaming!
ThunderDream already sold out, seems like a great PSU for my Japanese import dreamcast. Gotta wait for restock. Thanks Bob for telling me about it, I would have completely missed it otherwise. Now I am aware of it and can monitor it's supply.
It may be cheaper to buy a beaten up Dreamcast from your region and just harvest its original PSU.
@@Izquierda I also want cooler PSU with new components. I went through a lot of after market PSUs, but not requiring external AC brick is huge. I currently using industrial pico psu to dreamcast adapter, as it proved most stable and coolest option, no percivable heat.
Every time I see a new retro compatible console and how cool it is, until we get to its unavoidable jank side kicking me back to the usual "man, glad I have a MiSTer".

For some countries in LATAM, including mine, step down conversion was mandatory. Whenever you bought a console you’d expect a transformer dangling outside the box 😅. So these new psu are awesome additions. Unfortunately about 100 bucks plus shipping, which is about half the price, makes it kinda out of my budget.

I wish there was a great alternative to the Super Nt(Which is going for over a grand CAD off eBay), but alas. I could always just use an SNES with a pair of HD RetroVision component cables and use a retrotink4k. I already have an AVS which is pretty fantastic, aside form the fact that it doesn't support a CRT softness depth slider(Just scan lines, which work great btw.) Just not a fan of playing NES games with sharp squarey' sprites.
Pairing an AVS with a RetroTINK4K is an absolute must if you want to get a brightness boost when using scan lines, CRT softness settings and using it's low latency 60hz Black frame insertion which cuts down 50% of motion blur.
8:37, it looks like great NES/Famicone, but seems like it needs a little more polish. Not saving settings on power cycling, seems like an annoying issue.
Best bang for buck component gaming switchbox. Buy 2x 8in1out unpowered composite manual switchboxes and put them on top of each other. Use one to route video and the other to route audio. Should cost you around 40 bucks total for 8 component inputs.
OOooh, that video about those flash carts is definitely something I'll be watching soon. I was lucky and got the GB version CIB for damn cheap nearby, and thanks to Orangeglo's incredibly menu builder and a cart flasher I can flash that thing with whatever I want. It's a pretty fun piece of tech. Pretty much entirely obsolete but so very neat.
Sadly the SNES carts are a lot harder to flash, I would love to have one of those but wouldn't really be able to use it fully.
Second comment here, the OLED screen for the GBC is not made by hispeedIDO, it's salvaged from 2011 (or '13) blackberry phones. Which also explains why it has touch capability, that capacitive touch layer is already baked into the panel and can't be removed easily, so they're just reusing it.
I also don't think they could make more of those if the supply actually dries up, blackberry doesn't really exist anymore and I don't think many modern plants would be willing to retool their factory space to that old tech again, but maybe if those sell enough hispeedIDO (or someone else) will look into buying more modern panels that are still in production.
Also Makho is already conducting a burn-in test. So far 500h and it's very minimal burn-in at maximum brightness.
Personally I just got one because it's dirt cheap and easy to replace. Once the screen is bad in 5 years or so I'll just replace it with a different screen, will take about 20 minutes after all.

I just ordered a Japanese Dreamcast and assumed it would work when it arrives because my Japanese Saturn worked fine😮. Guess I’ll need to research step up/down converters and this psu
You can pick up smallish 220 to 110 transformers, they still bulky, but dreamcast wont overload them and it isnt picky about AC frequency.
Japanese Saturns and Dreamcasts work perfectly in NA as 120v is within spec for them.
Is the MiSTer implementation of the NES core complete & accurate to where an original user of an NES from the 80s wouldn't notice a difference?? (for that matter how about the SNES core too?)
Yup, I doubt anyone could tell a difference...other than no cartridge :)

Correct, however it'll work with an NES to Famicom converter.

I worry about any product that scavenges original hardware chips to function. It gives that company a profit motive to destroy existing shells and motherboards to get more parts, which is incredibly sketchy for those of us that care about preservation. I'd rather they have used an FPGA core.

You don't need an external brick with the stock Dreamcast power supply either. Why replace it if the oem one is fine. People just love spending money.
I was pretty clear about why people would need to replace theirs.
