  • Subtle exterior and interior changes, new G-Vectoring control, and a general premium vibe make the latest Mazda3 a top pick in a segment just overcrowded with competitors. Buyers looking for the sportiest handling and most luxurious feeling choice should put the 2017 model at the top of your list.

I love the fact that you can get a manual transmission on the fully loaded model. I don't think you give up any options by going manual unlike almost every other manufacturer. I don't know of any other make that gives you all these features in a manual unless you pay double or more. Kudos to mazda for that.

Drove a 2016 Touring as a rental car last year, and would happily buy one. I couldn't stop blabbing to my husband about it. Soyfran's right! If you're looking at a good car for commuting, get your head out of the ground of your local Toyota dealership and head to Mazda. This car will always put a smile on your face, every time you drive it!

Toyota's are rock solid reliable, but awful looking and boring to drive vehicles! Absolutely the 3 is much better than a Carolla!!

    • @DeadofWinter321
      @DeadofWinter321 5 років тому

Taylor Montgomery - I chose a 2016 Toyota Corolla over the Mazda 3 and very glad I did. The Corolla is a hell of a lot quieter, soaks up road bumps and imperfections very nicely. Gets better gas mileage, has higher resale value and lower cost of ownership than Mazda’s and the exterior styling ages a lot better than Mazda’s do.

In all honesty in looks exactly like my 2014... aside from a few changes. Exterior, there a few different lights. Also mine has HID and this is LED. Oh and the GT model has real leather, and a heated steering wheel. That's literally about it. 3-4 years and it's about exactly the same. Now when this new HCCI system comes out is when Mazda should be making the big bucks.

I bought one because in the price segment I could not find a better car by a long shot - the interior quality is A++, I did like the GTI a bit better but opted for the Mazda 3 due to superior reliability, I just don't have time to deal with a car that breaks down..especially a brand new car. I've owned my 2017 Mazda 3 now for almost a year and don't have a single issue with it.

I have a 2015 Mazda 6 Sport 6MT. The 6-speed is a really nice transmission. It has the same engine and transmission as this Mazda 3. The clutch is really light, the shifter feels amazing going through the gears, and it's pretty easy to use. But, this engine/transmission combo has a massive dual mass flywheel so it hangs onto revs for a long time and it does not like to be rushed through the gears.

I don’t like the floor mounted electronic gas peddle, it’s a weird feel and you get very little feedback on how high you’re revving, which is made even worse because the tachometer is a little digital display so hard to tell what rev range you’re in. Also the torque just falls off too quick. I also don’t like the electronic e-brake. Comparing it to a Ford Focus ST manual transmission, I get much more feel in the gas peddle and clutch peddle in that car.

FINALLY, a nice blue color . Before the 2017 model year, the only blue available for the Mazda3 was a near-black blue color. And the new extra interior sound-deadening insulation now makes the Mazda3 as quiet as the competition, so that's good.

I am thankful for your video review, it was very informative. I own a 06 Mazda3 2.0L 5-speed with 107k miles. Bought it new and still enjoy driving it. It is fun to drive and engaging, reminds me of a Miata that I test drove years ago which is a really fun car to drive. I may buy a new Mazda3 with the 2.5L but can you tell me if the new Mazda6 is as fun and enjoyable to drive as a 3? Manual transmission. Although my 3 is big enough for me, I wouldn't mind getting the 6 to have more room, but only if it is also enjoyable to drive. Anybody compared the 3 vs the 6 in driving and comfort?

I just test drove a 2016 Mazda3 s-GT 6-speed and a 2016 Mazda6 i-GT auto this week. The Mazda6 was definitely nicer inside (has the parchment white leather), so it's good to see they carried that car's updates to the Mazda3 for 2017. That said, the Mazda3 I tested was perfectly fine as well and had 95% of what's on this car, with the added bonus of being a couple hundred pounds lighter while having the same power rating as the Mazda6.
Frankly, if it's my money in this segment, it's likely to be a Mazda because they are nice cars that drive well. VWs are too pricey, and Nissans and Toyotas are so milquetoast. The only other Japanese car I'd consider is the Civic. Otherwise, I'd look at the new Cruze hatch and Focus, though I don't think their interiors really match this.

Followed by scary 2nd shift sound. Mazda 3 and has unforgiving manual tranny. Need to really modulate your clutch smoothly or just wait for rev to drop otherwise you get terrible sound going into 2nd @12:52

I traded out of a VW GTI into a Mazda 3 GT last year (2016) because of ongoing mechanical and electrical issues. Whilst I loved the GTI it just - continually - let me down. The prime reason then for me was something more reliable and with a premium 'feel' but without the hassles. After 2 years or so I simply cannot fault the little 3. It's not as punchy or as sporty as the GTI so it's not really a fair comparison in that sense - but it's really impressed me with it's no-fuss manner and easily hits every mark in its design brief. Only gripe is I wish they'd do an MPS version. I do miss the GTI whoosh. Not the bills though. I give it an easy 9/10.

Got a great year end deal 2017 on a Touring HB 2.5 6 spd manual. Terrific value for the $. Going to get really good summer rubber for it. That should knock the 0-60 down even more with the better traction...I have dedicated winter wheels. Junking the miserable Dunlaps...

I just got a 17 Mazda 6 Sport after totaling my 13 Sonata and I have a FEW complaints comparing it to my old Sonata. Which is unfortunate for it being 4 years newer. But it's still a nice car. I kinda wish I tried harder for the 17 Sonata Sport but idk.

Hi Sofyan, congrasts for the review !!!! I've always had a doubt ... Do you think that this car can compete with a BMW 1 series/Audi A3 or MB A Class? .... I think that it could ... regards from Chile.-

Francisco Javier Gamio Opazo Hi Francisco, I just traded a BMW 125i Coupe for a Mazda3 SP25GT Hatch here in Australia, so I'm in a good position to answer your question. In short, I have no regrets changing to the Mazda. The Mazda is just as well made and is every bit as enjoyable to drive. In fact, it's more comfortable as a daily driver. Don't buy an Audi, you'll regret it. Nice cars to drive but with terrible reliability. I posted an earlier comment here about my next door neighbour's Audi A3 1.8T. Btw, I love Chile. I have two nieces who live in Rangue, just south of Santiago.

Crosshead1 thanks for your reply!!! I have right now a 2015 Mazda6 2.5 GT that I love but I want a car a little more small and my first option is clearly a Mazda3 like yours... And I would never spend a dollar on a car from VW Group.... Once again thanks for your reply and your relatives lives near to me since Im in Santiago (Providencia). Regards my friend.

I'm looking into the hatch version of this. But I'm not sure if I should get mazda 3 hatch, civic hatch, or golf. Which of these are the most refined, have the best ride, performance, gadgets, safety tech and space?

Tech Defender in terms of looks, exterior design and sporty car I'd choose MAZDA 3 because how many times im telling that CIVIC for life I just cant say that whenever I see a mazda 3 here huhu :( idk what to choose Mazda 3 for looks, design and sexier car or honda civic for android car play and space but idk in safety tech, best ride and performance

Great car. Love that you can get it fully loaded with the manual. How come the Mazda 6 doesn’t let you do the same?

Would love to see a turbo and awd as a more refined alternative to a wrx. audi s3 is nice, but no manual is a deal breaker.

How come you didn’t like the manual in the 2016 but said the 2017 manual is one of the best? You suggested the automatic in your 2016 GT review. Thank you

I had a 2006 3 5 door hatch with the 2.3 engine. Loved that car but the price on this car has increased quite a bit that I can't justify over 25K for a compact hatch with even less back seat room. I bought my 06 for $18,500, which had automatic transmission, 6 disc CD, sunroof, and really great bolstered seats with awesome durable fabric that looks great after 11 years. I sold it an miss it very much and I now drive a Jetta SE which does not come close to my Mazda's performance and drive feel and interior refinement in the plastic city interior. I am considering a Hyundai Elantra Sport with the 1.6 turbo. Does that drive similarly like the Mazda 3 or will I be disappointed again? I want as many bells and whistles as I can get for around 20K.
