- Flat Holm - the name came with the Vikings over a thousand years ago, and means "small flat island". But even before the Vikings, there was activity on the island. This is the history of Flat Holm.
I really enjoyed that. The presenting was great.
I think that the future of the island is assured. Our future may not be.
can i go and live there ?
Great video thanks. And very appropriate for Norsemen to re-visit and make the film for us lol.
Haha, cheers
@@Skavold You're welcome. I wrote some poetry and a couple of paintings about/of the island. Here's one.
FLAT HOLM ISLAND. ©
Seashells and bluebells by the Flat Holm shore;
the lighthouse sends its warning light, for 15 miles or more.
Within the Severn Estuary, lies this lush green isle;
with nesting Gulls and Falcons, and things to make you smile.
A watching place since 1737;
for Keepers and their families found,
a little piece of Heaven.
Serving as a base for wars; it also cared for Cholera wards.
And now Flat Holm's own Society;
protects its long-term Care;
Inviting folk to work out there;
and Volunteers at Sunset now;
gazing West, they sit and stare.

@@jackharrison6771 That was a really lovely poem! What an amazing and mystical island, as well as Steep Holm
@@EvaLasta Thank you. Yes I'd love to spend time on each, to write.
Is there still a warden on the island?
Its pronounced "Montcreef" and as for "Cast Iron" that is debatable as they may have been made from an early cast steel.
Aha, thanks. Not always easy to nail the pronunciation of ancient names, particularly with having English as a second language! Interesting about the steel. Can't remember my source, but probably Wikipedia ...
Interesting, so is it possible to visit and stay over for the night?
ah never mind I just read your reply to Sid there
