I slipped on the beach the other day and hit my foot against the boardwalk, it looks completely fine but I think I broke something because it still hurts almost a week later. It's super easy to get "invisible" injuries on your feet, or anywhere really.

Right. I had bad foot pain but no bruising or swelling. It went on for months and got worse and worse until eventually I got scans done and I had a stress fracture in my navicular bone in my foot, and I needed surgery on it, and a screw put in. I was still working 40+ hour weeks full time the 3-4 months it was broken,

I believe her. I was the victim / survivor of a violent kidnapping and rape, and I was released. People, including my own fiance, family, and friends, had the same disbelief that this family experienced. It actually ruined my life and left me homeless for several years. The aftermath was almost worse than the assault itself. I wish the Pepinis all the best.

Remember that woman who was held hostage by a man who put blacked out ski goggles on her, then released her, and when people started questioning her story the kidnapper sent a letter telling them to stop. And the police didn't think it was real because it sounded like a lawyer wrote it. Then it turns out the kidnapper WAS a lawyer and it was all true, despite how absurd the whole story sounded.
This is way more believable that case so I don't know why anyone would question it.

The public is skeptical because she's a very attractive woman who wasn't immediately sold into prostitution, and instead was kept alive over 3 weeks. I suspect she wasn't "injured enough" for the public to believe the story. It could be that the women were in a tight situation and needed something to leverage themselves on and lost it because the she made national and international news. Anything is possible though. I really hope therapy will help her.

I think the kidnappers saw her jogging and thought she looked like the “type” that they could traffic. They realized fairly quickly that she was actually a 30+ yr old Mom and that’s not really what they are looking for. Once the media attention became too much, they made the decision to release her.

When I tell certain friends I’m afraid of going places alone because of sex trafficking they’re like why ? And I’m like because I’m 5 ft 4 105 pounds and in my 20s ... If someone were actually there looking to snatch a girl ... it would be me ... you could literally pick me up and take me ... my best friend is almost six feet ... she’ll be like “I’m fine you’ll be fine “ ... dude it’s different for you!!

Cutting off all your hair, starving yourself for a month, consistently covering yourself with bruises, branding yourself and breaking your own nose is above and beyond for a hoax. I’m also failing to see what their motive would be for a hoax. They didn’t get the ransom, they clearly didn’t want the attention or notoriety since they were private before and she hasn’t granted an interview since. They could have made a LOT more money off this story if that’s what they’re were after. Yes, the circumstances are weird...but stranger things have happened.

Agree. It'd be quite hard to traffic someone who's face has been shown in the media. Trafficking is done by moving the abducted person to another country. At this point while probably waiting for a fake passport of sorts, her face had become too known and killing her would lead traces back to them. Its easier for traffickers to release an abductee rather than kill them. I dont understand how any of this is considered odd or fake because its two women? Why haven't the police focused on putting the women that Sherri was able to describe in the sketch behind bars?

Her staying away from the media, hiding in there home, eventually moving, she did not gain anything from doing this to herself. I agree with another comment that said it was a human trafficking attempt gone wrong. If she was doing lots of interviews and continue to seek out attention then maybe I’d say it’s suspesh But all her actions afterwards to me say she truly encountered the kidnapping.

The detail of her pretending the cloth was her babies...rocking it, tucking it in, etc. that's something people do under extreme duress. Sometimes parents will hear or even see their missing or sadly deceased children. But if it's the mother that is missing by being kidnapped, I can see that mom pretending that she's taking care of or holding her babies because she's desperate to touch them again and escape her reality. That tiny detail alone holds merit. That doesn't sound like a mother that created a hoax to abandon her family for literally nothing but attention.

She doesn't but the public would have a right to know (in my personal opinion!) if they were at risk. For example: at the beginning of summer there was an attempted murder in my home town. The police remained silent and never update the public whether it was gang related or if it was personal. Since families live in that neighborhood they wanted to know for their own safety so in that sense I do think answers are warranted but it doesn't have to come from a victim.

Completely agree! But playing the devil's advocate, the monies spent by the authorities for her search considering how extensive it was, was substantial and if this was a hoax, the plotters would be facing legal charges. I think her kidnappers were 'amateurs' (thank goodness) and the huge publicity made them realize she'd be very noticeable if trafficked and decided to cut their losses and let her go.

A- she’s not the person they’re targeting and she’s worth more alive

Yes branding is typically seen in sex trafficking rings however it is not the only time it is used. I really wish they would release more to the public on what they know about the abductors. We don't have enough info on the who or the where to even begin to know the why (motives) it's frustrating and I don't want to hear about it happening again to someone else. I fully believe she was kidnapped with the intent of human trafficking, maybe by amateurs. Beating is often used to break the spirit of people. Hair grows back, bruises fade. As for the male DNA, one of the women could have very well been trans, or just beginning to transition. And as far as her being dumped, she said she heard a shot. Then she was dumped on the side of the road. There was very likely a disagreement about returning her and the one wanting to get rid of her, won the argument. What she did 10 years ago, or when she was a teenager, has nothing to do with her ability to become a victim of a crime. I'm just throwing out guesses, I could definitely be wrong. I sincerely hope that her family gets justice.

Human trafficking can happen to anyone, but as a young woman it does suck that I’m afraid to go on a run by myself.
But men can be targeted as well My boyfriend (a scrawnier looking guy) lives close to a major city and told me about a time he was leaving the mall or something with a friend in the middle of the night. They noticed as the were driving home, a car with tinted windows was following them, it stayed on their ass for a half hour before they stopped in some random drive way and shut off the car lights when they had some distance. He didn’t tell me he thought it was trafficking but that’s what my mind jumped to.
Men need to be aware that it can happen to them too, and to just be careful

I remember when I lived in the US where I sometimes went on walks on my own in the morning in a park right behind my house. It also had a lot of trees, almost like a forest, and many turns and ditches, as well as streams. One time, when walking through a more narrow path, I remember seeing a man in the distance, leaning against the railings of a bridge over a stream and listening to music. I immediately became terrified because there was no one else around and it was super quiet, so I made a u-turn and quickly jogged back. It's awful that we have to feel terrified of everyone we see. He could have just been a guy relaxing in the morning but my instincts immediately made me want to run away.

The fact she has moved houses stayed quiet and doesn't even seem to leave her house, kind of defeats the purpose of "attention" when she is doing all she can to avoid it. The only reason would be that it made no sense and the kidnappers did get nothing out of it (just like the Papini family got nothign whatsoever out of it).

You know, this reminds me of the famous Aussie "dingo ate my baby" case....where everyone didn't believe the mother and accused her of murdering her child, sent her to prison..... then later found out she was actually telling the truth.
No one believed her because it was so unusual and didn't add up.
Can you imagine how tragic and lonely that must be...to be deemed a liar, to be nit picked by strangers and portrayed so brutally by the public media? To be the centre of a witch hunt.
    So heartbreaking.
If you intentionally go looking for monsters in people, you will find them - and what you find may very well be you just projecting your own monsters onto someone else...

Exactly.. The man could have been very feminine, could have been intentionally hiding his identity, and could easily have made her believe they were both female.

I just trust that her details may be inaccurate. The human brain and its perceptions are not as reliable as we want to believe.
There is plenty of evidence that she was kidnapped and tortured. That is enough. Her own body was physical evidence of what happened. The unfortunate reality is that we are not as good at providing a clear or correct witness statement about the events that happen in our own lives when there is no trauma involved. Why anyone would expect, therefore, for people to accurately and completely account for traumatic events is beyond me.

I put a post on here saying I believed she was faking it and I got called every name in the book. Right down to being accused of being a misogynist because nothing that dumb woman said added up. Had to delete the post because I got sick of all the notifications coming in. Well, to all the people that called me and my wife names, this one is for you!! I was right and so was my wife! And I am not a misogynist, my wife is the one that convinced me it was fake.

I'm sorry. I read a lot of the comments on here and I was appalled by people's behavior towards you simply for having a different opinion... and you were right! It's getting hard out here just to have a working brain, intuition and thinking for yourself. There's no excuse to bully and dog-pile people anyway.

@@chaoswitch1974 Thanks. Its hard being called a misogynist and accused of hating women or being an abuser, etc, etc... just because nothing that woman said added up and I publicly expressed that. I do not know when it started, but there was a time when people could respectfully disagree, but that has gone by the wayside. Nowadays if one person disagrees with another, they are called names. Society is not changing for the better, imo. When women do things like this one did, they make it harder for those that are real victims to be taken seriously. Even my wife said, if she could go back in time, she would not have reported her assault because the fall out for doing so wasnt worth it. Papini just dealt a huge blow to women that are or will be real victims.

Ironic right? people believe women for everything, even I'm guilty of it. Cases and comments like the ones in this video are exactly why skepticism is necessary for every claim unless there is no need for it, women are capable of lying.
