Man, Kola is one of my favorite top players to watch and Pokémon Trainer is probably my favorite character in the game, so this was a fun set to watch for sure.
As a PT main, I've seen a PT player on winners side of Grand Finals before. @@kejumanis4474 yeah Tweek's main issue has always been consistency. When he's playing at his best he can destroy literally anyone, and then he has runs like SWT not even making to Top 8. Hope his break helps him find a char he feels comfortable with.
@@Pakitorocker he need to stop switching characters, faithful to one character that he love and put more time and work on it like dabuz with rosalina, tea with pacman, gluto with wario, etc. Skill wise he is cracked but he got no mental and trust on his character. Ofc he need to train his secondaries too to cover his main weakness. Like Leo, even though his byleth already crazy he still have aegis and joker in his pocket. But idk, i'm just a casual lol.
Kola was excellent but he lost this set because of a few bad choices when recovering. He tried to Up B onto the stage sometimes to try and get a hit when he should have snapped to the ledge and it cost him 2 critical stocks. He also could have used Up B out of shield a little more against Squirtle in neutral. Quidd played great but I do think it was his edge guarding rather than his neutral that won him the second set. Outside of some semi lucky edge guards with Squirtle, his Ivysaur was his best character because unlike Squirtle Ivysaur actually has the power to punish overly aggressive Roy's. That's why up B out of shield is a great option against Squirtle that Kola started using more as the set progressed but it's not so great against Ivy or Zard
Yeah that’s pretty much the matchup. Squirtle has the best frame data so he gets most of the work done but can’t finish it up. Ivysaur needs to come in for that, but is a bit of a chunky boi and a little floaty, so you gotta get that kill before Roy does his stuff. Charizard gets SLAPPED by Roy but you can sneak in a random back air in a pinch.
Squirtle also got killed a lot and let Kola's Roy build momentum. Kola plays high risk high reward and Squirtle is the perfect opponent for him to use that style against because Squirtle doesn't have great punishes. Sure he can tack on percent but he struggles to kill and his frame data is so good that it's not a big loss to take a risky offensive option. Even if it fails and you eat the percent you were just gonna take that percent anyway bc of Squirtles strong neutral. His Ivysaur was his most clutch Mon because it forced Kola to play more cautiously or potentially lose stocks. I'd say the biggest benefit of PT in the matchup is Squirtle gets the opposing Roy to play vrry aggressively but as soon as you switch to Ivy they need to adapt their style and show more respect or risk dying. Kola failed to switch gears in a timely fashion a few times and it led to a few KOs

Damn wtf was this, so freaking explosive for both of them
So happy to see PT win Grand Final
I remember that was Kola popping up off like that not to long ago in the grand finals it’s funny how he’s on the other side now lol.
Great grand finals, sick gameplay.
Btw, anyone knows the name of the song used at 24:30 ??
That is the best ultimate set ive ever seen
The commentary made it feel like a salty suite too which was awesome
you know, this was how MKLeo had his breakout win. Competing in a big tournament in his home turf, in grand finals against a top 10 player...
I'd argue Sparg0 is closer to Leo's rise then Quidd is, but we'll see I guess.
@@SeriousStriker I'm mainly referring to a singular breakout win. I have no idea what Quidd will do next. Could honestly be a fluke victory (though i highly doubt it given his skill).
Do you think the jab bair combo is made with attack cancel or just rar ? I was wondering each time kola performs it..
32nd seed sweeps true finals from winners... there's something you don't see every day
His Squirtle and Ivysur are so good. New revelation without a doubt.
18:40 what do you mean by that
Let's see if he can be consistent
That’s always the question, only time will tell
This is so cool to watch!
Quidd is so fun to watch. I guess it’s bc I’m a PT main but I’ve watched every single PT matchup of his
Reminds me of the old days of Pokémon Trainer. Squirtle and Ivysaur do the work and Charizard uses back air.
Great way to start 2022!
can't believe kola lost you gotta be quidding me
Watch 15:33 frame-by-frame. Really makes you appreciate top level play. Techs the dair to landing uair to jab nair + advantage. Kola is a God.
23:02 that up air hit so disgustingly late lmao what is that
Wtf? Good eye
“That ain’t fraklin! He got some hands!” Lmao
Quidd's Pokémon trainer really reminds me of tweek's playstyle back when EVO 2019 was happening
Maybe im crazy but id totally play a version of supersmash with just pokemon characters.
Quidd is talented, but I think that something that really helped him was the fact that he wasn't well known to other players. Nobody expected him to go this far with his seeding, so they hadn't done research in case they ran into him in bracket.
Like, if you know that you're probably going to run into Dabuz in bracket, you're going to review his gameplay and your previous matches against him in case you run into him. But Quidd? Nobody expects the PT.
In my opinion, one of the best sets in Ultimate
What a hype fucking set man Quidd plays great
Some of those reads and setups were just fantastic
Can we for a second give the commentators some credit, they were so on point and hilarious! Like they were terrific sometimes commentators suck, these guys blew it out of the park, I was entertained the whole time!
Roy vs squirtel is a nightmare
This is the fastest 2 set grands I’ve ever seen
Does Quidd still compete in Majors this year or did he take a break?
Aaron: Kola, what happened?
Kola: QUIDD GAMES ‼️
Who is this quidd guy? Is it his first major he’s so good and I’ve never heard of him
He won a local over light back in the summer but doesn’t have the best national performances.
I think he started competing just last year, which is insane. This guy's Ivysaur is definitely the best I've ever seen, he will go far no doubt
He is ranked number 5 or 6 in the New York area.
@@Sergio-wc1wn damn number 5-6 in New York just beat number 5-6 in the entire world, that's pretty impressive
Bro, not even I know who quidd is
That was a crazy set, good job to Quidd for showing out, he might be the best Ivy, Kola definitely still a monster tho
HOLY FUCK THIS SET IS AMAZING. im going to back track all his other sets on this tournament now!
Sick sets, Quidds sick at the game I do think Kola ran out of steam after that wild losers run a fresh Kola vs Quidd would be insane.
