- The reality-television star Park Schnabel acquired a loyal following due to his participation in the TV series, “Gold Rush.” Viewers were amazed by his gold mining performance, as he increased his haul each season in Alaska and Klondike, Yukon, even scoring the biggest gold haul in the history of the show. Discovery Channel launched the series in December 2010; the first season finale ended up as the most-viewed TV series on Friday night and they never looked back. First off, let me point out a few facts that most of you viewers don’t know:
I am from Haines, Alaska (where the show started out). Even though the people of Haines didn’t care much for the way Parker’s grandpa originally trashed the land with his gold mining, they tolerated it because it was (after all) his land and he seemed like a pretty decent guy. The entire family were already millionaires long before any of them were ever on any television series. Grandpa’s son (Parker’s Dad) has owned Southeast Roadbuilders for years. Southeast Roadbuilders is a road construction company based in Haines, Alaska and is a monopoly. Since they are the ONLY road construction company for literally hundreds of miles around Haines, they (by default) win every single contract with the state of Alaska to do any type of work at all on any road or highway anywhere near Haines. They have always been the richest family in Haines and the people in Haines have always referred to them as “The Snob-els” which is closer to the correct pronunciation to their last name than the way the commentator of this video is mispronounced it. Long before they started filming the original Gold Rush series, it was announced in the local paper in Haines that these people were contemplating tearing up the land at Porcupine Creek for the sole purpose of making this television show. Every single person in Haines was against it, but they did it anyway. Now, if you go up to Porcupine Creek (which is just North of Haines, Alaska, on the Haines Highway), you will see what was once a beautiful hidden gem of a valley, is now simply a completely trashed mud hole. Yeah, thanks a lot Schnabels and the Discovery Channel. Once they were done filming in that area they just moved on to the next place and left their trash dump behind for the locals to live with!☹️
Yeah the downsides are never highlighted in shows like this. To be honest, I've never thought about the consequences that all of this could have left for nature and the people who live there. I've been a fan since the first episode but I can totally imagine that not everything was so rosy for others. For the family yes. But i also lost interest the more Parker was in the focus. I just never liked him
If world was fair place actual cost of mining gold should also include cleaning and taking care of nature after the digging. There should be law for this but yea... ofc greedy capitalism says: but you'd scare investors and economy potential... blablabla...ye okay year of digging at same place that will leave consequences for decates to come...awful just awful!
They should to made to put the tundra back to the way it originally was,minus the fragile ecosystem.
I grew up in Haines (no longer live there) and lived about 3 miles from John Schnabel's (Parkers grandpa) mine. I can vouch for every word Super Chief said.
to further add to this.. i have talked with the dad on several occasions as someone who does Civil Air Patrol (search and rescue) we have asked them on several occasions to help out with an Ad in our magazine for as low as 50$ to help fund search and rescue operations.. and not only are we always denied but very rudley.. these folks are only out for themselves and dont care about thier greater community..
He was always the most compelling stories of the show. I watched a lot the first 3-4 years. His passion for the business even while still in school and at such a young age made for a good storyline.
Grandpa taught him well. His dad was awesome too very well raised!! Parker is very focused and successful. And I hope he continues great success!!@

He's a loser in love ,he had a chance with Tyler Mohoney but she hung out with the two other losers in Australia. Tyler keeps showing of her bikinis haha . I'd liked to show when he was a youngster and depending upon his grandpa for the knowledgeof mining, and how he respected his parents..But, I noticed his change as he got richer and older he became a little arrogant, and lost that personality that he had when he was young ..This is just my opinion..He truly loved and respected his grandfather. which I appreciated..I guess I lost interest, when things became all about money and more money..
Let’s be honest, this video is not by the creators of the show or anything to do with it. It is basically click bait as the title is asking where Parker is today and that question only comes up in the closing moments of this video. As I said, utter click bait

It's guaranteed that Placer Mining is going to totally change the landscape, but then States and Provinces err, by NOT collecting a fair and reasonable Royalty for Restoration and Reclamation!
The Family Roadbuilding Empire also creates Employment for the area, of which I'm sure everyone appreciates, including likely Winter Highway Maintenance work.
Aspen Poplar can easily be planted by Cutting a tall Sapling into 12" piece's and simply jabbing them into the ground as early as possible after thaw, as long as the Landowner is in agreement.
Funny, the video at 1 point talks about filming in the USA and Alaska as two different entities. I get they are distinguishing between the 48 and Alaska, but still a little funny.

Parker has been a pompous jerk since a kid. He'll he even treated his brother and Mom like second class citizens! His own family! Now I understand given Haines town folks and the families history. People slam the Hoffman's but I have a great deal of respect for that crew and their offshoots! Grandpa's dream, starting from scratch, including others, failing but plowing ahead season after season. Unlike being born into it and letting people know it! How he treated Rick (his only friend) and Fred (the medic) when he wanted to give it a go...just awful. I remember Parker crying to Rick about not having friends... I just hope he understands why and someday he, well, humbles himself. For me, I just can't watch him! Glad to see Hoffman family gold, Dave Turin and Freddie & Juan though!!

Everything that's wrong with the entertainment industry and the History Channel, both. (the Discovery Networks, in particular.)

i stopped watching about the 5th season too much scripted Drama, Several miners who appeared on the show have already stated the show developers were always adding in all this extra drama to include break downs of equipment that were not really broken just to add drama.
