Oscar Wilde was proud of the fact that he'd kissed Walt Whitman on his visit ot America. It wouldn't be on my list of things-to-do-in-America, but they didn't have Disney World back then.
I've listened to this more times than I can count. This made me feel better when I was grieving my father's death. Thank you!
I have read this poem to myself, but this is the first time I have heard it read *to* me by another voice. Incredible, and oh so moving. Thank you.
I am not too partial to poetry but free verse. This has touched me profoundly.
Especially now,in this tender moment of my life.
This is a master piece.
and the narrating voice is an absolute pleasure to listen to.
Wherever you are Whitman,I choose to believe every word you have said.
perfect....i never thought my soul could be so touched as by the time i stopped in here and listened your beautiful voice embraced in Whitman 's words...thank you so much for these pleasant moments...
Much like the grass that grows on the other side of the hill, this poem envigorates the qualities of youth found only in the nectar of life itself. Whitman is a literary genius, who compels his audience to reach out into the dark and find knowledge that can only be attained through the hieroglyphic nature of wisdom, time and sorrow. 10/10 would watch this video again!
What I'd pay Tom O'Bedlam to read this entire work...
greatest reading of verse, any verse, i have ever heard......i believe. and what a gorgeous work !
SpokenVerse, you are to be applauded !
I'm so fortunate to live so close to Walt Whitman's final resting place in Harleigh Cemetery in Camden, NJ. I frequently visit him and gather inspiration for life. I'm not poetic, but I definitely appreciate the beauty of it, of life.
@TheVirgoClown Everything in this channel is read by me, Tom O'Bedlam. I hope you'll listen to a few more.
My ex-husband was a fan of Walt Whitman, though I hadn't read much from him. Been more curious to do so in recent time. Thanks for creating this for us out here to listen to.
I have listened to quite a few of your readings, Mr, O'Bedlam. Your voice and presence are always very moving. I'm grateful for your efforts.
To be honest, Paper Towns brought me here. A lot of what I loved about the book centered around this poem.
It's magnificent how one being can enlighten the flourished yet hidden world of no lamentations or duties to others who are quite blind and busy in the race.
Thank you..thank you so much for loving the human race ...dear poet....W.Whitman...You justly point out the selfish aspect of man ....& your plea for humanity ...
Not a CD - but you can make an mp3 file you can play on an iPod or similar. Just Google for "UA-cam to mp3". Or you can make your own Playlist here on UA-cam.
Beautiful Walt. Whenever I feel myself as insane as the world I open Leaves Of Grass at any page and within a couple of lines am well again.
It took just three and a bit minutes out of my sunday afternoon... what a wonderful and pensive interlude .. I guess life is packed to the gills with beautiful unspoken moments.. if we choose to see them as Whitman did x
I stumbled across this, & I am very pleased I did. Thank you. :)
I can never get enough of the wisdom of those gone before.
Thank you for posting this, SpokenVerse.

Google made me do it Do you know what the symbolism of Leaves of Grass in Breaking Bad is? I'll give you a hint if you need.
Duncan McNeil it's been a while so you might as well tell me :)
Isn't the image of "the beautiful uncut hairs of graves" comforting? As well as the animals, too :)
Thank you for this.

Excellent Reading.
fantasitc voice. Is it at all possible to get a reading of Madness and Joy?
Wonderful poem.
You would make me very happy, sir,
if you read "a woman waits for me" from Walt Whitman.
And you would do him great honour by reading his words.
Who is the reader? He is wonderful!
Tom, I love the way you read. I know it's a lot to ask and would be very ambitious, but could you read all of Leaves of Grass?
Please. I would happily pay for a recording of the poem in its entirety.
@SpokenVerse Is this something you do for fun? You have a voice of honey, I would love to hear you read one of my poems. I am new to utube, I just found ur channel and fell in love. Its just beautiful!!! :)

Bravo!!! Bravo!!!
Fantastic
All this from a child's simple handful of grass.
Leaves of Grass; even the title rustles the imagination to conjure thought.
than you.
Could you please do the entire book. Christ, you're good, and everyone else is so insultingly insufficient after hearing you read Whitman.
Wow
Bravo
eternal

Nice.
You have very interesting voice :)
i liked whitman .............woderful one thx
The blade of grass makes a y the route to make a y that make the blade of grass this all points to one thing who made it the letter Y in his name Yahweh and the animals are moved by Spirit law and a perfect espirit long moves with unerring accuracy and they were also created a day before us I might say the Earth was fresher so they ain't need no soul because they don't lose anything or need any saving
. . . I give them the same, I receive them the same . . . *Beautiful!
bravo:))
I'd have kissed Whitman ;-) And Ginsberg, later.
