Walt Whitman Revolutionised American Poetry
Вставка
- Опубліковано 31 тра 2019
- Poet and journalist Walt Whitman was born on May 31, 1819 in West Hills, New York. Considered one of America's most influential poets, Whitman aimed to transcend traditional epics and eschew normal aesthetic form to mirror the potential freedoms to be found in America. In 1855 he self-published the collection Leaves of Grass; the book is now a landmark in American literature, though at the time of its publication it was considered highly controversial. Whitman later worked as a volunteer nurse during the Civil War, writing the collection Drum Taps (1865) in connection to the experiences of war-torn soldiers. Having continued to produce new editions of Leaves of Grass along with original works, Whitman died on March 26, 1892 in Camden, New Jersey. #Biography

This video existed to just make me suffer bcs of college
i’m watching in seventh grade
Such a great poet and he wasn't appreciated in his own time.
Each creator must accept that we may never know them.
thats of the case look at Nietzsche
Not many understand some of his poems. He was writing so many of the poem from his own direct experience with reality ( or so called enlightenment).
The greatest poets are never appreciated during their lifetime. Ironically and tragically, celebrities with absolutely nothing to offer that is meaningful or eternal, relish in fame and fortune.

The truth about Whitman, as I see it, was that he’d experienced cosmic consciousness, and everything he wrote was coming from this. To those who haven’t experienced this (mostly everyone), he will seem outlandish, even just plain crazy. He’s not alone though; Jesus, Buddha, Shakespeare, Goethe, Dante, Emerson, Dickinson et al all had these intimations of immortality. However, even without this angle, Whitman can just be read as humanistic wisdom for the ages. Those who claim something ‘off’, or worse, about him are, in my experience, usually rigid, linear thinkers who have sold their soul to this so-called holy book or that so-called holy book. There is more wisdom in 🍁 Leaves of Grass than all those dusty tomes put together.
Being forced to watch this by my teacher :) like if it’s the same for you
