Nice project Collin. Having two thrusters plus rudder would allow for some redundancy. If rudder fails you still might be able to steer with differential thrusting, or if any one thruster fails you can keep moving and steer. Another thought - the brushless motor you use seems an outrunner, which is already a magnetic coupler in itself, you can seal both the stator and outer rotor with resin coat and it will keep running even submerged. Provided of course it could be modified to use some kind of plain bearing instead of its usual ball bearings. One clasical example of such a bearing used once in boats is having the shaft through a hole in a block of wood that is boiled in mineral oil.
