I would probably remove half cup from the batter. Then I'd break my arm slapping myself on the back for this decision about my health. It takes real guts and determination to make good choices about food. Then I'd serve myself a larger piece as a reward. This New Year's resolution is piece-a-cake!😊
As a somewhat Southerner, I can tell you that Coca Cola cake existed long before Cracker Barrel started serving it. So there are probably LOTS of recipes out there to try. Also, I have a recipe for Coca Cola Ham that my mom used to make. It's a fully cooked ham, but it's cooked in a cola syrup. Let me know if you want to try it! :)
Okay, to make Cola Ham, get a small cooked ham (2-3 lb). Put in pot on stove, and cover with a small bottle of A1 sauce (about 5 oz), a small bottle of Worcestershire sauce (about 5 oz), and a can of cola (NOT diet!). Simmer on the stovetop on low until ham is warmed and sauce is slightly thickened. The sauce makes an excellent gravy for mashed potatoes! :) Hope you like this!
For future reference, the size hole needed for poke cakes will depend on what you want going down into the cake. If you're using Jello before it sets (ie; still liquid), then fork hole pokes are usually large enough. But for something like a thick frosting you need some larger holes like the end of a wooden spoon to get any frosting down into the cake. It's probably not going to change the flavor any, but mostly for the novelty/looks.
Our christmas cake is a two layer round cake, one layer green lime jello, the other layer red jello (usually raspberry as that is my mother’s favorite) whipped cream instead of frosting. you will need to use toothpicks or kabob skewers to keep the top layer from sliding around. Garnish with colored sugar crystals. Keep chilled in fridge before serving.
Someone send these folks a 9 x13 pan! I was holding my breath hoping it wouldn't run over as it rose in the oven. It won't be quite as dense in the right size pan, but just as delicious! You should also try Crazy Cake or Wacky Cake. You can google the recipe. You won't believe how it is made. Very easy starter cake for young kids. Also, you may know this, but you can insert a toothpick or paring knife into the center of the cake to see if the crumb has set. If the tester comes out clean, it's done. If it comes out gummy or with crumbs clinging to it, the cake needs more time in the oven. Love seeing you explore and enjoy our American foods!
@@MrhandfriendsI can highly recommend Crazy or Wacky Cake. Incredibly easy. I eat it plain, no frosting. I look for Peg Bracken's version, because she didn't mess around with it. (Bracken was an American author, originally a home hints journalist, who went on to write some helpful and very funny books in the 60s and 70s. The 'I Hate To Cook Book' is a favorite.) It'd fit in that pan you used just fine. I double the recipe, put in a 9x13 pan, and bake it around 50 minutes instead of the usual 30. Yes, you need a 9x13 pan! I'm sure we'll send you one. 😄 And great job! That looked marvelous. I think desserts with cocoa powder tend to use more sugar, though I'm not sure why. Baking chocolate is just as bitter! I don't know if they sell it in the UK, but Hershey has their regular cocoa powder, which is good; plus a dark cocoa powder. I've switched entirely to using the dark. It's amazing. Lastly, thanks for taking us on the shopping trip! Nice to catch a glimpse of your stores. So there, Publix. Ppppththththtttttt. 😂
@@monicapdx Crazy Cake was the first cake I ever made in Home Ec waaaaay back when 😄a Mennonite lady was our teacher. It was so "crazy" to put all those ingredients in one pan and get a cake from it! Brings back many memories. I like mine with just milk. Sometimes I pour the milk over a piece in a bowl🙃
@@bekahms What a great idea for a Home Ec recipe! It is crazy. You think it just won't work. (I've gotta be careful not to reveal the secret here, because it's so much fun to make one the first time.) Milk is perfect with it, just like brownies. And pouring milk over it is genius! I can see it on a hot summer day.
Coca cola cake is traditionally cooked in a large pan so it's thinner. Your recipe would have made 2 cakes in the size pan you used... The frosting should be more of a chocolate glaze that is poured over the cake while it's still hot so it can soak down into the holes you made. You then chill the cake so the glaze can set. I worked at cracker barrel for years and it was always a popular dessert choice. We used a round wooden spoon handle to make the holes.
That was quite a surprise that you said that you guys don't have many recipes over there with buttermilk in it you know it's so funny the things we just take for granted wherever we grow up not like I do a lot of cooking or baking with buttermilk but it was just a surprised to hear that.
I love that you are using your new US measuring equipment! That does look good! Baby H could not be more cute! ❤️ I suppose I should start referring to her as “Toddler H” pretty soon, bless her!
Ive never had the Coke cake there, but ive had it many times when homemade. A side note thats a subtlety of Southern ordering at any restaurant that has unfortunately kind of gone away in the last several years is : Waiter/Waitress: "What would you like to drink?" Customer: "Coke." W: "What kind?" C: You then say Coke (Coca-Cola), Diet, Sprite, and even non Coca-Cola products like Pepsi, Mt Dew, etc. This is the way it was when I was growing up (80's/90s), but I think the homogenization of the US because of things like UA-cam and TV becoming non regional and all streaming has kind of killed a lot of "Southernisms" like this. I remember the first time someone not from the South telling me about how weird this little conversation had to happen every time you simply wanted wanted a soda ("coke"). To me it will always just be "coke" for everything, and now when I travel back down south (I now live in Ohio) I have to remember that if I just say "coke", its unfortunately what I will simply get even though its not what I want (I usually want Cheerwine or Mello Yello).
I grew up saying coke for soda here in Texas. After I got older, I switched to calling it soda. It's like asking for a Kleenex when you want tissue. Or Xerox a document instead of saying copy a document.
My experience of this is also if a restaurant, particularly fast food restaurants, will say 'We carry Pepsi products' to clarify whether you were specifically requesting Coke-Cola.
My mom used to make a Coca Cola cake before we ever tried it at Cracker Barrel. I loved hers more, but theirs is a pretty good version. She also made a Texas sheet cake that had a chocolate peanut butter icing on it. Chef’s kiss
I am so glad that you guys had a good time while you visited our country! You were both so excited to try all the places and foods that you had seen others trying and boy are you lucky that your little one is an adventurous eater! Hopefully you are able to have another visit in the future so you may see and enjoy other places and foods.
First thing I learned when baking: there are dry & wet measuring cups and you're always supposed to use the appropriate ones for each ingredient. Love seeing the measuring spoons too. Baking is very precise so seeing (other) ppl "wing it" re: what the recipe states & then get mad 🤦♀️ Yea your smaller pan = a longer bake. Wasn't surprised by that so awesome job on knowing that 😊 Most ppl don't Unless you eat the whole cake by yourself you're not eating 2 cups of sugar. I'd think about the coke & frosting too & not just the batter 😂
I am glad that for the Cracker Barrell visit video that you decided to get an extra savory dish to try the fried catfish rather than buying the Coca-Cola cake! I have never tried the Coca-Cola cake myself. I tend to order an extra vegetable side dish instead of ordering dessert anyway.Glad you are making the Coca-Cola cake at home! :) Congratulations on having another sponsored video! Baby H is getting bigger! :)
Thank you Sam. Good call on the vegetables. We didn't even look at the dessert menu when we were there and didn't know that this cake was a thing until people told us in the comments of the cracker barrel visit. Mrs H 💕
I learned it as "Texas sheet cake" -- the key feature being that the frosting goes on while the cake is still hot, and soaks down into the cake. Mmmmmmm.
Adding the Coke cooked down, took out the carbonation but left the coka taste makes chocolate richer in taste. Here in the States we will also add coffee liquid cooled down to make chocolate taste richer in cake batter. Not sweeter but richer. Great job Mrs.H, and baby H is absolutely adorable.
You two are so much fun, but I must admit my favorite part of you videos is probably baby H. She is very adora. Please keep making videos because you are all so much fun. Love from Michigan, USA.
Aww, Mrs H. You did such a great job & yes Coca-Cola cake has been around for a long time & yes I've had it many times & they usually serve it with vanilla ice cream. I don't really like dark chocolate & I always thought it looked like dark chocolate but when u taste it, it tastes like MILK CHOCOLATE. Yes it's not as thick as yours but if u can't find the right pan then u just adapt & modify like u did. The ice cream helps cut the sweetness also which I bet some Dutch chocolate or regular chocolate ice cream would be great too. They serve u a big piece at Cracker Barrel Americans couldn't understand why u didn't get any when u were there & get the dessert to take home. We usually do that after a big dinner always take dessert TO-GO & eat it later. My parents use to eat dessert after dinner & have 2 or 3 cups of coffee with it. I think those days are over now I hardly ever see that anymore. I agree with Mrs H. IT'S A 10 for me too,, I was one that couldn't believe u didn't get any dessert & especially Coca-Cola Cake it's a little warm & they have the big scooped ball of ice cream. With chocolate drizzledover itall & it's a dessert that makes u wish u had 2 pieces it's so good. So amazingly fantastic. Great job! 😍😄🤎🍰🍦☕️🥛🤯😱🥹😋🙏👍🤞👏
Mrs.H you did it again, the chocolate cake looks yummy delicious! I love Baby👧🏼 H how she could not contain herself after tasting the chocolate cake she was ready for more and more!👋🏽🇺🇸
Mrs. H, you are such an adventurous lady. You like to make things recommended by your fans. Good sports mr & Mrs H and sweet Elana H ❤ bloody love our Brit’s
American excess of ingredient measurements, I think, require American sized kitchen pans! LOL. You must have 4 cups of sugar in that bag. Americans usually grab an equivalent of about 2 kilograms of sugar or 4 pounds. 4 pounds is like 15 cups of sugar. We can definitely spare a cup of sugar if ever a neighbor asks.
I make a similar cake, Texas Buttermilk Sheet Cake. Instead of coca cola I use buttermilk. You bake it in a sheet cake pan which is much bigger that this pan and so the cake is thinner. It's my families favorite cake. I've had the coca cola cake at Cracker Barrel and also baked on before. It's amazing but we prefer the buttermilk version.
Ohhhhh mannnn.... It's one of the few chocolate desserts I can't resist. It taste just like my mother used to make from scratch with real cocoa and the slight texture of granulated sugar in the frosting.
Cracker Barrel started in Lebanon, Tennessee and is still headquartered there. I am from the next town over, Mount Juliet, and ate at the original Cracker Barrel a few times as child when it was the only one.
My sister called her concoction a “crazy cake.” She used a chocolate cake mix, and she used cooked chocolate pudding to mix it up. She used chocolate chips, to finish it off. Beautiful!!
That looks absolutely amazing! Y'all's cooking shows are killing me 😂! I think I may have made the same noise as Baby H made as I was watching this video 😂!!
The cake looks so delicious!! Great job, Mrs. H.! I want to go to Cracker Barrel to get the pot pie and the cola cake. I love the video with Elana helping her mom with the shopping. She's so precious! Adorable!
So happy to see you guys checking out various recipes and foods from the states. We definitely have a lot of regional favorites LOL! And Baby H is the cutest little bit, ever! And PS- never such a thing as too much frosting😊.
Oh what a great recipe for y’all to try at home! Can’t tell me me you didn’t LOVE it! And I loved watching you make it!! The south has some of the best recipes on earth, huh?! Lol !! I love chocolate…and therefore I love a Coca Cola cake!! 😋Woohoo!!
Believe it or not, that is not the best dessert Cracker Barrel has ever had. They used to make a baked apple dumpling with pecans that was so delicious, I would have sold my mother and my dog to have had a slice. Several years ago they had a s'more pie. Both of these were unbelievably good. In a couple of years, plan to take Baby H to Dollywood in Tennessee. There are so many family friendly amusements in Severe County that she will not be bored. The two of you would probably love it too. And there's a Cracker Barrel where you can go and have your cake.
@@Mrhandfriends At over 109,000 km, Tennessee is a bit too large for you to see in one visit. Plus large portions of it are not really what I would call family friendly. As a native-born Nashvillian who still lives here, it pains me to say my city is not meant for families. Truth be told, our leaders have allowed it to turn into nothing more than a drunken brawl. There's not really anything for you to do with Baby H, and the crime downtown is astronomical. Memphis is worse. It's been on a decline since the 1970s and is one of the most dangerous cities in the country. We call it the Detroit of the South. Best to skip both. But Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg are absolutely chock a block full of family orientated activities. There's tons of small amusement parks dotted around. Good food. Hey, check out the Inn at Christmas Place. It's rumor to have the best beds in the entire Appalachians. And if you get bored of that, Head up to the Tri-City areas. Check out Bristol, the birthplace of country music. Enjoy all of the outdoor activities available in Johnson City. You'll find plenty of things to keep you occupied.
As someone who worked at cracker barrel for 8 years. Only difference in recipe. Cracker barrel's cake mix has miniature marshmallows mixed into the cake batter.
I've just recently started watching your channel and thoroughly enjoy it. I grew up in South Texas and now live in East Texas and never heard of a Texas Tray Cake. We have a Texas Sheet Cake. You make up a cake and bake it in, what we call, a cookie sheet. It measures approximately 17x12x11/2 inches. You cook it the same way, spreading the icing on top as soon as it comes from the oven. Years back there was a variation where you added chopped Pecans to the cake mix then when it came from the oven you spread Marshmallow Fluff on top and returned it to the oven for a few minutes, When you take it out drop spoonfuls of the icing on the cake and swirl it into the melted fluff, then let it cool completely. This was called a Mississippi Mud cake. Once again, enjoy y'alls vlogs take care.
To check if a cake is done, poke it with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, it's done. If it comes out with cake batter on it, the cake needs more time.
OH YEAH!!! The only chocolate cake I will eat is the Coca-Cola cake! I'll eat red velvet cake too which is considered a chocolate cake as well. Other than those, I like simple white cake or carrot cake. I'm wanting to make one for myself now!
There is one huge problem with the Cracker Barrel version. I've never eaten with ice cream, warm as they serve it, because after I've eaten my entree', I'm way too full to eat a dessert! ;-) I end up taking it home, sans ice cream. Yours looks fantastic. Think of the 5 or 6 cups of sugar you've already got in the cake, and then consider how much sugar is in the amount of Coke you added! I have a chocolate cake recipe that take over 7 cups of sugar, with icing. It's fantastic, though!
Most of us americans don't have the time to make from scratch we just get a box cake and use coke in place of the water/milk, and it makes it so fluffy and it is so moist
Mrs H, if you want to try a southern pie that tastes amazing. It’s called a vinegar pie, apparently during the depression, lemons were hard to come by. So they discovered that using vinegar, you could make a pie that tastes and looks like a lemon pie. I discovered this pie when I lived in Tennessee. Love y’all’s channel
The first time I ever had a coca cola cake I was flabbergasted by how good it was. I don't eat it regularly, but really enjoy it every time I do! I have had steaks marinated in Coke before too.
Next time you make this I suggest lining the pan with aluminum foil prior to pouring in the batter. When it's cool you can lift the whole thing out of the pan and it's easier to cut and serve.
I live in Tennessee, and Cracker Barrel has been a favorite of mine for many years. When I first ate there years ago, two people could get full meals including drinks for under $10, believe it or not. (Showing my age for sure😂) .
I absolutely love Coca-Cola cake from Cracker Barrel. They give you free dessert on your birthday so I get a free one every year. I get one every time I go there.
Excellent baking Mrs H. Coke , Pepsi any of that type of dark soda can be used. Coffee also does the same~ increases the flavor of the chocolate. Coke and other types of drinks can be used to make some awesome meat dishes as well. The acid breaks down the toughness of some cuts of meat and the flavoring and sugar add to the taste. Another awesome video 🙌👏🥰
You should try Texas Sheet Cake. My Grandmother always made what she called Mississippi Mud which was a brownie like cake and mini marshmallows placed on top directly out of the oven and after cooling, adding chocolate icing and Pecan pieces. You could barely eat one piece.

Yeah, in Georgia it's coke no matter what flavor it is, especially since Georgia is the home of Coca-Cola.
Chef’s kiss
Texas sheet cake with chocolate peanut butter icing!? Insert homer Simpson drooling reaction asap lol
That means you got to try making it for yourself soon. Mrs H 💕
@@Mrhandfriends haha! If I made all the things like that, I’d weigh 300 lbs. I’ll try to find the recipes and post them though.
I am so glad that you guys had a good time while you visited our country! You were both so excited to try all the places and foods that you had seen others trying and boy are you lucky that your little one is an adventurous eater! Hopefully you are able to have another visit in the future so you may see and enjoy other places and foods.
Buttermilk is a great marinade for chicken and fish, its also good for biscuits and pancakes
I drink it straight up with toast, cornbread or cake ...Yum!!
Baby h loves Southern cooking a girl after my own heart❤❤
First thing I learned when baking: there are dry & wet measuring cups and you're always supposed to use the appropriate ones for each ingredient. Love seeing the measuring spoons too.
Baking is very precise so seeing (other) ppl "wing it" re: what the recipe states & then get mad 🤦♀️
Yea your smaller pan = a longer bake. Wasn't surprised by that so awesome job on knowing that 😊 Most ppl don't
Unless you eat the whole cake by yourself you're not eating 2 cups of sugar. I'd think about the coke & frosting too & not just the batter 😂
Wow! Cool to see her give it a 10!
My grandmother made a 7up cake...so good too!!
That cake looks amazing!! Mrs. H looks extra pretty in her dress!
Love 7 up cake
Great Cooking Video as always Mrs. H. & Baby H. could not be any cuter. You are so close to 100,000 Subscribers !!!
Thank you. Mrs H 💕
Well next time we go to cracker barrel I'm going to have dessert to go, or just sit there until I can make my way through a lot of the menu. Mrs H 💕
A sheet pan is important since the thinness makes it seems less heavy.
Ohhhhh mannnn.... It's one of the few chocolate desserts I can't resist. It taste just like my mother used to make from scratch with real cocoa and the slight texture of granulated sugar in the frosting.
I just love the H family! I look forward to your videos! Baby H is precious!
Cracker Barrel started in Lebanon, Tennessee and is still headquartered there. I am from the next town over, Mount Juliet, and ate at the original Cracker Barrel a few times as child when it was the only one.
Add some pecans to the icing and use a sheet cake pan/jelly roll pan.
I’ve eaten at the very first Cracker Barrel back in the 1970’s. It was in Lebanon TN, where their home office still is!
Now we need to see you guys try making a coke can/beer can chicken on the barbecue for a warm summer’s day feast. Yum!
I live in North Dakota & I just love watching you & Mr H.
I’ve never heard of this or had it but I’m going to make it. It looks delicious! Yum! Baby H loves it! 😍
You definitely need a 9" ×13" pan for this recipe.
Oh what a great recipe for y’all to try at home! Can’t tell me me you didn’t LOVE it! And I loved watching you make it!! The south has some of the best recipes on earth, huh?! Lol !! I love chocolate…and therefore I love a Coca Cola cake!! 😋Woohoo!!
It took half a bag of sugar but the bag was so tiny 😂
Save a little bit of that coke to make an ice cream 🍨 float
Congrats on the sponsor. You deserve it.
I like how your freshly mixxed frosting was smiling.
We would love to get to Dollywood and Tennesse. Mrs H 💕
It is a small bag of sugar. We have 10 lb bags in my house
To check if a cake is done, poke it with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, it's done. If it comes out with cake batter on it, the cake needs more time.
Although measurements and pan sizes should be adhered to, that cakes looks so good.
I've never heard of a Coca-Cola cake before I've never even had a piece of it before but now I'm going to try it out
Considering Coca-Cola is chemically designed to literally pair with everything (like water), it can’t possibly be bad.
Way back in high school, my friends mom used to make root beer cake. (80's)
It’s nice isn’t it, it looks delicious and amazing! You guys make
Me so hungry!!!♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏
Colorado. Like Cracker Barrel’s Coke Cola cake. Since the cake was made of in the south they include more sugar .
The Next time you’re in the States, I highly recommend coming to Philly for the museum scene, especially the Please Touch Museum for baby h.
I've never seen the scanner on the buggy. In the US, if people don't want to go through the checkout, they can scan using their cellphone.
Cracker Barrel, at least the one here , use to make and sell a Buttermilk Pie topped with sliced strawberries.
It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS .
America does know how to do desserts 🙂
OH YEAH!!! The only chocolate cake I will eat is the Coca-Cola cake! I'll eat red velvet cake too which is considered a chocolate cake as well. Other than those, I like simple white cake or carrot cake. I'm wanting to make one for myself now!
Baby H is all about the gravy
😋🥰 I might have to try that cake myself! Loved the video, as usual! Always hit the like button before I even watch.... that's a no brainer.💚🎉
That looked delicious! Great job Mrs H! 👏🏼🙌🏼
7up cake is amazing also !!
I now need chocolate cake
Chocolate cake is just the best
Most of us americans don't have the time to make from scratch we just get a box cake and use coke in place of the water/milk, and it makes it so fluffy and it is so moist
Mrs H, if you want to try a southern pie that tastes amazing. It’s called a vinegar pie, apparently during the depression, lemons were hard to come by. So they discovered that using vinegar, you could make a pie that tastes and looks like a lemon pie. I discovered this pie when I lived in Tennessee. Love y’all’s channel
OMG, that looked amazing!
The first time I ever had a coca cola cake I was flabbergasted by how good it was. I don't eat it regularly, but really enjoy it every time I do! I have had steaks marinated in Coke before too.
the size pan you need is 33x22.9 cm pan
Next time you make this I suggest lining the pan with aluminum foil prior to pouring in the batter. When it's cool you can lift the whole thing out of the pan and it's easier to cut and serve.
Great idea. Thank you
Florida here. Not big on cakes, but that looks good!
Texas sheet cake is similar but baked in a larger sheet pan and thinner.
if you need a use for that buttermilk you can make some pancakes. buttermilk is CRUCIAL to making good american style pancakes
Never had Coca Cola cake, but, I've heard it's very good!! Glad you enjoyed your visit here❤❤❤❤
I just totally enjoy watching your videos! Please keep on posting them!!
Texas Sheet Cake, is baked on a traditional cookie sheet. Yours looks good.
Never heard of Texas sheet cake.
Just love you three! ❤
I live in Tennessee, and Cracker Barrel has been a favorite of mine for many years. When I first ate there years ago, two people could get full meals including drinks for under $10, believe it or not. (Showing my age for sure😂) .
That's really good. I think the prices are still reasonable today. Mrs H 💕
I absolutely love Coca-Cola cake from Cracker Barrel. They give you free dessert on your birthday so I get a free one every year. I get one every time I go there.
Let Baby H live. Guns out Mr. H.
That looks delicious. Never tried it gonna have to now. Awesome job Mrs H. ❤❤
Yum!!! Looks so delicious! Now I’m craving chocolate cake like the one you made. I love y’all’s videos.
Yea but if you used THAT much coffee it will have a predominantly coffee flavor & not chocolate
You should try Texas Sheet Cake. My Grandmother always made what she called Mississippi Mud which was a brownie like cake and mini marshmallows placed on top directly out of the oven and after cooling, adding chocolate icing and Pecan pieces. You could barely eat one piece.
We always melt the butter slowly first Ms H..😁
Many Americans buy their sugar in 25 lb (roughly 11 Kg) bags, along with flour etc. Even small packages of sugar are roughly about 2 Kg.
Would love it if you put the recipe you used in the video description box.
I just double checked and its in the description. Here it is too insanelygoodrecipes.com/cracker-barrel-coca-cola-cake/ Mrs H 💕
Now, you’ve got another dessert to wow you’re friends.
I drive by a Cracker Barrel twice almost every day. Never ate there. The food looks really good, though.
