Speechless!! actually it's the first time I see Mel C talking so comfortable about a trouble (old situation) that happened with the Spice Girls. You know, she never wrote a book 'coz she doesn't like to talk or to share many of these things, or as she said here: "so much is behind the scenes". Good interview! well done Lori. Mel C is not afraid to give an opinion now. Probably because she's matured and independent...u know she finance her own records and write her own stuff. She's not a puppet anymore. She once said that she's outspoken now coz she's older and she got nothing to lose. 👌
@@jaissapierce4057 of course. That goes without saying. Check out Mel s recent concert in Brazil. It's brilliant . I recently seen spice girls in Dublin and it was the happiest day of my life
I do not believe Mel C was on the radio just to talk about Geri 1998? I want the full interview! I hope you asked about her solo career, too. That I'm such a fan.
LAB-Lil' Angry B!tch i don’t really think people think about “forever” album when they talk abo just the real spice girls! - I think most of our minds think of Spice and Spice World
21 years later and some people still can't get over the fact that Geri left. The group carried on as a four-piece for three years after she left. I wonder how many of the people hung up on Geri leaving bought the "Forever" album? Evidently, most of them didn't. It's time to move on, the girls clearly have.
Looking at interviews/performances from May 1998, it is very obvious that Geri was deeply withdrawn and unhappy. The other 4 seemed oblivious due to exhaustion. The pressure of being the biggest band in the world, who were managing themselves (!), on a world tour, and hellbent on maintaining an insane promo schedule, took it's toll and there's only so long they could've kept it up. As Mel C says, there's A LOT that went on behind the scenes that we don't know about - we now know Mel B had a lot of personal issues over the last 10 years and I think all of their personal relationships with Victoria are pretty poor at the moment - but regardless of anything that happened behind the scenes in '98, Geri didn't need to leave in the way that she did. She shocked and screwed them all over by leaving right before the US tour and UK stadium shows, not to mention breaking the fans hearts. It's clear Geri and Mel B were arguing heavily, but I don't think the other 3 girls deserved her abrupt departure. She's now apologised publicly, and it's water under the bridge, but it still kills me that we never got a third album as a 5 piece.
yeah i agree. you can see how quickly things went downhill...they all seemed super happy and excited at istanbul and then as soon as the full tour started, she looked so unhappy. i think it didn't help that her voice was shot as her bulimia was so bad at that time (you could tell as her voice was super raspy), and that they also said things that kind of came across as digs...i think in their last ever interview, mel b said about there being 'four trained dancers'. i can imagine she just felt a bit redundant...i also find it quite sad how she threw herself into her solo career so quickly, as she seemed even more unwell then with the weight loss.
Lori struck me as really disrespectful. She sounded like she was trying to get Mel C to grill on Geri, but being the classy woman she is, Mel didn't bite. People tend to get over that in 20+ years, lol. And Geri's first solo album was actually very successful; she had four #1 UK hits in a row.
@Coffee Addict I'm sure the millions Geri and her record label made beg to differ, she had a solo career and made a living without having to kill herself or spending half her life on a plane and the other side of the world which is kind of why she left the Spice Girls in the first place. As Mel C said, you can only do it for so long and by then they were being stalked and had paparazzi following them and that immense type of fame wasn't all that. Many artists are quite content to be successful in their own countries and have America as a bolt hole to escape to and buy a mansion in the hills and just enjoy what they have without the hassle of "being famous". America isn't the be-all and end-all to many non-American artists due to its size. Most artists don't even try to break it as the costs and promo needed are huge. It's generally only once a European artist has done really well in their own country (when they have already made tons of money) the record label even try America.... to try and squeeze more money out of the cash cow before the phase is over. Tastes aren't exactly the same. Spice and mainly Wannabe was one of those unicorn super lucky moments that managed to translate the world over, it's super hard to replicate. Forever the third Spice album proves all too well that by trying to appeal more to the American market you end up appealing to no one in the same way the first two albums did. As they also had to spend so much time in America the appeal started to wane everywhere else. The same happened to The Wanted and the Saturdays and even One Direction to a degree. America killed them all off... so I'd rather bands left America well alone thanks. Geri's music was campy pop, so she probably realised that if the rest of the girls couldn't make it she had no chance, so pulled on the plug on American ambitions after the remaining Spices flopped with the third album. It was also the change to a more R&B style that Geri wasn't comfortable with and another reason she wanted to leave the band. "You're in a bubble The money's just doubled So call the police Cos your karma's in trouble You're in a bubble Give baby a cuddle You're losing control And you're sellin' your soul" : You're in a bubble - Geri Halliwell. Geri got her UK number one's and her face in all the UK papers/magazines and was on all the TV shows, did ok in Europe, Japan and Australia/New Zeland and that was kind of enough for her. By then she had her Spice Girls money in the bank so making more and more money wasn't really her deal. She's reportedly got close to $40 million in the bank at the moment and they each just made close to $12 million dollars from 13 dates and didn't even have to leave the country....well other than a short jaunt to Ireland. So the UK market is big enough for them. They all have kids and families and like most people, they have other priorities than money. And in summary...you don't have to do anything in America to be a global success, just ask Kylie Minogue! :p
She did say "here" meaning the states. It didnt do well in the states but the spice girls were worldwide so she was just making an example of why leave that situation which was bigger for something that was less. But geri had a great solo career as well, she did have its raining men which was a huge hit, I remember seeing it all over tv, hearing it all over radio. People need to realize the spice girls were done, after geri left they did their last album which didn't do as well as their previous albums and they really tried to fit in with the current sound at the time. Music changed too much, thankfully that happened tho we got lots of great singles from geri, both mel's, emma and victoria.
Well, actually Geri's debut album, Schyzoponic is the best selling solo Spice album in US. It didnt make top 40 on Billboard 200, but sold enough for a gold certification. None of her singles hit Billboard Hot 100 though. However Mel C's debut Northern Star is the best selling solo Spice worldwide, but didnt crack well in US. her single I Turn To You did made the Billboard Dance chart at no. 1. The reporter 'shaded' Geri a bit, maybe because how Geri left the band before even finishing Europe tour, let alone starting US tour! It was a huge disappointment for US fans.. And how Geri made some promo in US public as a solo artist, (for example, presenting at MTV VMA 1998, while the other 4 still finishing the US tour... a bit rude) but ended up she didnt make it well chart-wise with her debut record in US...
@@leoapp1223 Here in USA Ginger spice was a big flop. I remember she was everywhere trying to promote her album and talking about her departure from the group. It was a gimmick that helped her to sell a little but it was a big flop that didn't last 1 second regardless, it's correct to say that she was a flop here. Even in europe her 'career' tanked soon, it went down hill after that cover hit that she did and the third album was a massive flop. Mel C was successful with her third album in Europe instead, she also had a big hit in various countries, titled 'first day of my life'. Mel C has had the most successful solo career with the biggest hits and albums in europe yet she was unsuccessful here. It's strange, the only spice that entered the chart is my gurl Mel B but the only song that we heard on the radio was Mel C i turn to you and a song of baby spice for a while, don't know the title.
mmhhmm Geri has spoken numerous times about this. She was depressed, she had eating disorders, she was beyond exhausted...it was alot and she was deeply unhappy at the time. Her father died not long before and there was friction between Mel B and herself at the time. 21 years later to put the blame on Geri with those questions...i don't know, you can hardly judge a bulimic depressed person for getting out of a situation that wasn't good for them at the time. Also she did very well later as a soloartist in Europe, 4 #1 singles in the UK in a row, so why all the Geri shade?
I agree that Geri was free to leave the group if she wanted to. Nobody can force somebody to be a Spice Girl - she is in charge of her own life. However, the reason it came up again is because Geri apologized to the rest of the group at their recent concert in London, a few weeks ago. Their 2019 tour obviously brought back up a lot of stuff. You can see it here. Geri says she was just being a brat. ua-cam.com/video/eowezCt3Rwc/v-deo.html
You can throw yourself all the tragedies so you don’t look bad.... that’s basic human nature.... and she was back a year later trying to make it as a solo artist.... not to mention all the antics she did for attention.... not buying here leaving the Spice Girls excuses...
Honestly they are. People can say what they want about them but when they still to this day are the most successful girl group with only being together really for less than 3 years and only having 3 albums they really are legends. Look how they still can sell out concert many years later.
@@musicislife.2602 Less than two years from their first release in July 1996 and Geri leaving in May 1998. ( But NOT on Mel B's birthday as Mel B keeps lying ).
Part of the reason why The Spice Girls are seen as iconic today is BECAUSE of Geri leaving after just two years. Marilyn Monroe is an icon partly because she died young. They didn't limp on for years trying to maintain the glory days, they finished on top leaving people wanting more.
@@mariahwhitneycelinejanetmadona who knows. Geri wanted another pop album, the others wanted to 'grow up' and be the British Destiny's Child. I'm saying that Geri leaving after 2 years has added to their iconic status. The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long!
The most dominating forces in the group, Geri and Mel B made it happen and together they tore it apart. I think Emma was the only Spice girl that was healthy, mind, body and soul - she had strong family ties. Mel B was on her own since 15, beautiful, talented but she didn't have what Emma had & she didn't have an education. That's why Mel B is financially in trouble today. Mel C always had determination, if there were never any Spice Girls, we would know Mel C.
@@mariahwhitneycelinejanetmadona Yes, she did have her mom but in an early interview Mel B said, "I don't ask my mom if I can do something, I tell my mom what I'm doing." It's like she raised herself. Also Mel B admitted that when she lived with the girls, she didn't want to go home for Christmas, she said she spent 3 Christmas' with Geri.
@@mariahwhitneycelinejanetmadona I am not sure if Mel B ever admitted to dropping out of school but she did tell us she was dyslexic and she didn't do well in school. When she left home at 15 she found jobs to support herself. So I don't think she ever returned to get an education.
@@Ineedpeace215 yeah that's in Geri's book as well. The other three girls went home alot on weekends while Geri and Mel B stayed in the house, the 5 were renting on their own on the weekends and xmas. They were VERY close for a long time, the closest out them all and eventually when there was friction between them it drove the group apart in 1998.
I think maybe big reason for her leaving was fact that her and Mel B really have a " thing" and it was true what Mel B said at interview that they slept together after maybe it was awkard to them or they argue too much, who knows.. In my opinion it was true I think Mel C also know that it was something between Geri and Mel B.
Geri was jealous, Mel B had just gotten into a relationship with her dancer Jimmy Gulzar. Geri handled it badly... why else would Mel C never talk about it with her. That means she doesn't see a way in there because it's so personal for Geri.
Wtf, she ask mel c about geri leaving 21 yrs ago seriously? She could had asked if the spice girls gonna do world tour or release the full wembley concert on social media something
I think Mel B was the most vocal about the departure of Geri during that time. The 3 other girls - Mel C, Victoria & Emma, although I know were also affected but didn’t really dwell in that moment. But Mel B & Victoria at that time were also starting their own families, so I guess they were able to concentrate on something else. But Mel B being closest to Geri was the most affected & vocal about the situation. Anyway, they have reunited already in 2007-2008 as a complete 5-piece. So I don’t know why it’s still a topic for the group. She aready apologized that time & they even have more shows on The Return of The Spice Girls tour than this new tour. Yes, she missed out on Wembley but so did Victoria this time.
Geri calling herself a 'brat' was apt. Yes, she was exhausted and felt insecure in 1998, but it''s not like she dropped off the face of the earth: she actively worked on solo stuff and released her debut single not even a year later. The Spice Girls were always going to go on a break after the world tour: Geri not being able to stick it out for another 4.5 months is because she wanted to go solo before anyone else.
Probably but extremely selfish and against the huge message of female support and loyalty to friendship....Geri was extremely selfish with that move because the majority of people always liked then collectively, maybe at the time it got to her head that many people voted it her as their "favorite spice" and she probably thought she could achieve the same success solo, but she was absolutely wrong...I think now as adults they probably look back and understand that there was an unexplained energy and magic when they were together as 5. Personally I think it was a slap on the face to the fans and the girls.
@@dinahwestallen I 'll tell you what you don't do to friends. You don't continue lying 23 years later that they left on your birthday. A bit of easy research shows that Geri did NOT leave on her birtday. If all has been made up then why does Mel B keep on lying about this to fans? It's obvious. She wants the fans to think less of Geri
@@cuntrella313 You seem completely oblivious to the fact that there is such a thing as mental health and feeling depressed. Not to mention Geri's eating disorders and the fact that Mel B and Geri were once very very close but at the time were having friction. She has apologized. She was and is my favorite but i don't think she owes anything to be. If she was unhappy, burned out and depressed in that situation like some interviews from April/ May clearly suggest which also show other members especially Mel B being rude and dismissive to her, she has every right to leave and do whatever makes her happy. Also everybody is forgetting both Mel B and Victoria were pregnant. Spice Girls were always gonna take an extended break and they all wanted to go solo then. They just did not have the balls to break up so they did the promised third album 2 and half years later and pretty much split quitely a month after release. If anything Geri felt more honest to leave at the point that she was over with than the half assed attempts to keep the group going even though they all and especially Mel C prioritized their solo careers at the time. Geri also said she would have never felt comfortable trying to convince the world she was really an R&B diva, so there were creative differences as well. Geri did her big pop album with Schizophonic and Spice Girls did their Forever and i prefer Geris offering so it's all good.
I was wondering if they ever got to apologize to Geri as well. I mean, they're friends. All of them seemed really close and yet Geri felt the way she did and ended leaving like that. She didn't even say goodbye. 🤷
The interviewer asked the question we've been wondering for the past 20+ years...they could have been way bigger if Geri didn't left at the peak of their success...
Yeah...I mean I've thought about this a lot recently. They would have gone further for sure, but how much longer could that level be maintained. Another 2 years? 3? 5? Who knows...eventually I'm sure it would have come to an end (whether by choice from them all together or just due to sheer exhaustion and "overexposure"). Part of me wonders though if people would desire a reunion as much as they have if they were able to run their course entirely. Questions we will never know the answer to. They've forever gone down in history though 🙂❤
I'm really glad she did leave because that album with "Holler" was a nice improvement and Victoria Beckham was finally getting the lines she deserved. Also, in the Return of the Spice Girls Tour, "Holler" had the best choreography and that's because Geri wasn't there. I feel Geri brought down the skills all the other girls had because she was basic... at everything.
Jenna Labriola she wasn’t really good at anything actually. She was also very diva and very selfish. I feel she was the reason Victoria didn’t get any recognition until Geri left, so I secretly hate her with a passion.
The Spice Girls had already achieved worldwide success and with 'Stop becoming their first single not to reach number one in Britain? Maybe that was an indication of their peak having been passed.
@@peterpinsent6274 if they had released Stop just ONE WEEK earlier, it would have gone to Number 1 even if it was for just a week. No song was ever gonna beat Jason Nevvins & Run DMC- It's Like That to the number 1 spot, that song was everywhere.
Gosh... How many times should Geri be blamed and make an apology. She already did before 2007 reunion,, She did many times on her social media. It's been 2020 lol, leave Geri alone now. She's been with them, actively having communication with Emma And Victoria exchanging sweet messages especially this recent birthday of Geri. So c'mon past is past and grow up, fans should make the most of it while they can still perform. We are witnessing a living legend, they are next to Beatles.
@@huntybaby mental health and happiness matter more than comercial success. She had her reasons to leave, and all the others were also very tired of overworking. Some of them already planing solo material, such as mel c herself.
Why is this woman harping on ancient history? It's one thing to simply recap and get Mel"s perspective but she is really trying to dig Geri. Sweetie, the girls have long moved on so you should too.
sorry but they all knew Geri was going to leave the group and Geri didn't have a solo thing till coming to end of 99 so saying she did a solo album straight away isn't true
I agree and it's true we all were robbed of songs, projects, concerts, possibly a TV show? I say tv show it cartoon because the Beatles and Monkees had stuff like that so I'm sure it's safe to say Spice Girls could have. Geri left at like the worst time ever I just can't stress that out enough. I would have felt much better if it started to end a few years after 2000. Them ruling 96 to 2003 or 2005 would have been great. Having 5 albums, lots of unreleased bonus b-sides, them releasing WOMAN, filming the other concerts, selling them. They screwed up so many opportunities that would please us fans, the ones who made them and supported them. There is still time to give us the things. Please do it already. I'm sick of asking
You forgot that Mel B and Victoria shortly announced the pregnancies after Geri left. They were getting married, giving birth and enjoyed their time at home, while Mel C did a solo album in 1999. Spice Girls would have taken a long break whether she left or not.
... impressive, really. And how about her legs, yes not visible here but sure you've seen them who knows how many times... like sculpted. At the 2019 Tour especially thighs' muscles wanted exiting those super-tight trousers. Same for her abs, but in first place that incredible, heart-melting smile never changed since the legendary days back then... that's what makes her so unique in my eyes, and that's why I'll marry her somewhere in another world ;-) ;-)... greetings from Italy.
Their then manager simon fuller had plans to move the girls into different directions and all the girls had that understanding. They lacked the wisdom to at least first talked to simon for disagreements in how they were managed. Instead, they impulsively fired simon and Geri's dramatic and emotional leaving threw all the plans into disarray. After they wrapped up the SpiceWorld tour and released Goodbye, they started to go downhill steeply. Two of the remaining members i.e victoria and mel b couldnt wait to get knocked up and start a family while Mel C was too eager to prove herself as a solo artist after the SpiceWorld tour. Had they carried on as a group as planned for a little longer, their individual talents could have been show-cased to the world in much bettey ways, and they each could have more successful solo careers.g
@@jonnipannekoek1959 Ignorant too, as she did well in Europe and sold millions as a soloartist, not as big as Spice Girls but that was to be expected. To be fair none of the other Spice Girls did even as much as she did solo in the US

@@jonnipannekoek1959 Oh give it a rest you big cry baby. Even at the time, Mel C dissed Geri's solo work as well. Geri's solo work isn't fantastic by any means and Geri's "singing ability" is extremely limited.
It was horrible ,geri released video look at me where theres a dead ginger spice funeral going on. She left the group in a horrible way. That's why I dont understand why fans gave Victoria a tough time for this tour ,Victoria stuck thru all albums till the end.
They always gave Victoria a tough time because she's simply the best. Just like when they say that Victoria is the worst singer when we all know is Ginger. Victoria pays the price for being more famous and more successful
Can't believe its been like 20ys from her leaving, and still people are asking why she left the band??!!! My God, leave the past behind people!!!! The girls are Ok now, and thats what really matters...
I think Geri only initiated what was going to happen anyway. Victoria and Mel B got pregnant and Mel B planned her solo before anyone did. And on the top of that all of them were on the edge, exhausted incredibly. Although It's a shame they didn't finish the world tour as 5 pieces band... but On the other hand Geri's leaving added more "spice" to the whole icon of the Spice Girls.
But it's true though Geri left because why? She supposedly had a "mental breakdown" "depression" and couldn't take it anymore? She initially said it was just for a time off. But immediately she started releasing her own music...... I'm not trying to bash her, they made their peace and I love SG as a 5 member group. But the truth is the truth, you have to say it even if it doesn't sound pleasant and in many cases as a friend i tell my friends the truth or when they do a mistake even if they don't like it. I can't be fake.
Apparently, she left because she thought she could be the next Madonna. When she did that all the public attention was on her and she took advantage of it to release a solo album.
It was a strategy! She left because she was egotistical and used all the attention to promote her bad solo music, after her short moment of fame and all the flops she crept back in the group ahaha She's so fake! At least Victoria never used the group for her own purposes
Geri left because she felt heartbroken after she found out Mel B got pregnant. Mel and Geri were lovers. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Come on now.
There's always a member that leaves a group in the pursuit of solo success. Some are successful and others aren't. Beyoncé has become the greatest ever, Mel C the most successful solo spice girl, Robbie Williams the most successful take that member, Cheryl Cole, Camilla Cabello etc. Ginger Spice had success in uk initially but she immediately started to flop hard, releasing a long series of flops. Longevity isn't for everyone especially for those who aren't talented. My gurl Mel B has nothing to do with it
For me the turn off about geri is her documentary she did... Shes in hotel leaving the spice girls and she film to see the beginnin..... The beginnin of what youre supposed to be depressed....when your in depression you dont think about callin the women who was supposed to make the documentary of the girls in america to do her own documentary of leaving a band....all smilly ...ect ect for me that be the last thing ill do filming myself when im in "depression ".... After all the years after it was bulimia...the breast cancer interview ...mel b trouble.... It was allllll a bullshit...she just wanna be solo ....thinkin she was bigger then spice girls with her ego she trash the girls a lot of time .... And the 2004 documentary you see the ego come out ....... When u listen geris interview it always a story ..since then i give up on her i dont think shes authentique ...and now she actin like shes a first lady wearing white every fuckin day ..i think the only one whos the more real about her feeling about the group ect its emma
Don't know. Maybe mine is a stupid theory but I wouldn't be surprised if all this Geri issue was planned from the beginning. I mean, one of the best ways to become a myth is to die when you are in the highest point of your success/beauty. Like Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain and so on. The Spice Girls have "died" (of course as a band only!) when they were at their best and now they are still in the myth. I might be wrong but, again, it would not surprise me.
It's her dream to represent her country in the olympics one day...I've seen clips of her training in hurdles but when she injured her knees she's lost her confidence. And now it's too late for her to pursue a sports career.
2WheelTonio I meant at the time it happened- she was almost engaged then. It’s a group near and hear to her so I know she cared. She has talked about it in her book
Probably she felt bad, but she remained Friends with Geri, in an interview she said that the only one she mantained contact with was Geri, a few years after Geri left
Geri left for one reason. she thought SHE was THE STAR, and wanted to cash as a solo while she could. Nothing at all wrong with that, just OWN IT. Sadly it did not really work out all that well for her. She got some attention out of it, and a few good songs. Geri had a huge ego back then. The most talked about and noticed SG was probably Geri.
I think she was genuinely burned out at this point and really couldn't see a different way than leaving. she talked about being depressed and having an eating disorder. She also said she didn't feel like she matters in the group anymore. I think that kinda made her sort of rebel and do her own thing and she was quite seccesful actually.
Joey Alan snowflake. She was asking her the questions and probing for answers that people want to here. How should she have dressed it up, all pretty with ribbons and unicorns.
Mania28 snowflake? 🙄🙄 go crawl in a hole somewhere. Mel was being honest but she was also very clearly like: “we’ve moved on. We love each other.” This is typical shit stirring.
@@Mania28 She was shady as hell towards Geri mentioning her solo record was a flop in the US, well it still sold 3 million worldwide and generally putting a really negative spin on Geri, almost trying hard to get Mel C to talk shit about her. She didn't though. xx
what I don't understand is why make such a big deal out of it now, like, why nobody said anything in the previous reunion back in 2007? Or the 2012 performance?
Why is the interviewer so surprised the girls don’t talk about Geri leaving? It’s been 21 years now and they are best friends. I’m sure they joke about it but they don’t care at this point 🙄🙄
Probably because it was such a huge deal back then. Geri left at the peak of their success, in the middle of their world tour, without telling anyone. I remember it was all over the news. I think it makes sense to assume they talk about it at least once in a while. But yeah, obviously the girls are over it by now, which is good.
Well, from a business point of view, and actually Mel is confirming that, the Spice Girls were kinda "done" after 10 big singles in the charts for 2 years, people were either growing up or not interested anymore. Geri's singles on the contrary were very very popular in Europe. Probably the album didn't sell like cakes but the TV and the radio was always broadcasting her music. So from a business perspective it was the right choice to do. And the last Spice Girl album was a shift to another kind of pop, more RnB, and to be honest, Geri's presence wouldn't have help it anyway. Unfortunately pop music works like this.
I didn"t understand.why is she asking Mel C about that now during the new tour.after 21years?MEL C IS THE BEST VOICE OF THE SPICE GIRLS.BUT I LOVE ALL THE OTHETS EXCEPT VICTORIA.SHE'S THE WORST.

21 years later and some people still can't get over the fact that Geri left. The group carried on as a four-piece for three years after she left. I wonder how many of the people hung up on Geri leaving bought the "Forever" album? Evidently, most of them didn't. It's time to move on, the girls clearly have.
Brilliantly put
When did Mel said that? Is there a full interview about it?
@@musicislife.2602 She says it in this clip?
@@RoryBoyle1992 I missed that part. 😆
yeah i agree. you can see how quickly things went downhill...they all seemed super happy and excited at istanbul and then as soon as the full tour started, she looked so unhappy. i think it didn't help that her voice was shot as her bulimia was so bad at that time (you could tell as her voice was super raspy), and that they also said things that kind of came across as digs...i think in their last ever interview, mel b said about there being 'four trained dancers'. i can imagine she just felt a bit redundant...i also find it quite sad how she threw herself into her solo career so quickly, as she seemed even more unwell then with the weight loss.
I think we all know by now Geri left because it was really her plan to do solo and she thought could make it big....
@Coffee Addict
I'm sure the millions Geri and her record label made beg to differ, she had a solo career and made a living without having to kill herself or spending half her life on a plane and the other side of the world which is kind of why she left the Spice Girls in the first place.
"You're in a bubble
The money's just doubled
So call the police
Cos your karma's in trouble
You're in a bubble
Give baby a cuddle
You're losing control
And you're sellin' your soul" : You're in a bubble - Geri Halliwell.
@@Sammae Yes she clearly was talking about US success, which was non existent
for Geri
My issue is that her answers always seemed to change over the years and it was always a nebulous explanation when she did.
When did her dad die?
alejandromolinac which antics?
2.5 years ay I thought they were together for like 5years wow they really are LEGENDS

Hi. Where can we get the full interview. ?
Part of the reason why The Spice Girls are seen as iconic today is BECAUSE of Geri leaving after just two years. Marilyn Monroe is an icon partly because she died young. They didn't limp on for years trying to maintain the glory days, they finished on top leaving people wanting more.
So had she stayed on they would’ve flopped?
@@mariahwhitneycelinejanetmadona who knows. Geri wanted another pop album, the others wanted to 'grow up' and be the British Destiny's Child. I'm saying that Geri leaving after 2 years has added to their iconic status. The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long!
period
well the proper third Spice Gils album is "Schizophonic" (not "Forever") anyway
@@0ksh ok well don’t get carried away. Forever is iconic
Abroken Heart Mel b’s Mom always seemed to be around tho? Mel b dropped out of school?
@@Ineedpeace215 That's probably because her dad was too controlling.
It's true that they had a thing but i think that was in 1995/96...when Geri left in 98 she had a boyfriend and Mel B was pregnant by Jimmy Gulzar.
Geri was jealous, Mel B had just gotten into a relationship with her dancer Jimmy Gulzar. Geri handled it badly... why else would Mel C never talk about it with her. That means she doesn't see a way in there because it's so personal for Geri.
I like they acknowledge that when Geri left , was the beggining of the end !
They wrote and recorded the trash 3rd album in a few days. They just didn't care after she left.
Wtf, she ask mel c about geri leaving 21 yrs ago seriously? She could had asked if the spice girls gonna do world tour or release the full wembley concert on social media something
She probably did throughout the interview but they haven’t released the full interview yet.
Where can I see the full interview?
They’ve already said they aren’t continuing the tour so
MariahWhitneyCelineJanetMadonna nope they didn’t say that. Only geri is still 50/50 and the other 3 still wants to do the tour.
MariahWhitneyCelineJanetMadonna actually they all have said they would like to tour more. So don’t know where you heard that. 🤔
When can we get the full interview ?
It's such a human thing, the fact that they never talk about it. lol I feel like that's everyone in real life.
Full interview? When and where can we hear it?
@@cuntrella313 Do you know what she was going through in 1998? Seems there’s a lot more to the story then Geri thinking she could do better solo
Exactly!!!! That's what I say. You don't do that to friends. And someone pointed out in this day and age she would have been sued
I like her when she said "leavingggggg"with a fucus😘 mel c is the best spicegirl

For a second I thought 2014 Katie hoping was interviewing her
The interviewer asked the question we've been wondering for the past 20+ years...they could have been way bigger if Geri didn't left at the peak of their success...
@@LeeoGoneWild geri was never a very good dancer. Doesn't really have any rhythm...but there was a magic to the 5 of them together

The Spice Girls were achieving international success and were on a peak when Geri left. Her leaving really was the beginning of the end.

An interesting choice of outfit for the radio!
sorry but they all knew Geri was going to leave the group and Geri didn't have a solo thing till coming to end of 99 so saying she did a solo album straight away isn't true
Look at her arms💪
... impressive, really.

I honestly think that the spice girls weren’t meant to be a long lasting group- it was meant to be a moment in time
Idk they still are able to sell out big stadiums years later but I kind of see what you are saying.

@@SailorSpears Geri pays the price for having as many solo number ones as the rest of the girls put together.( In their homeland)
Can't believe its been like 20ys from her leaving, and still people are asking why she left the band??!!! My God, leave the past behind people!!!! The girls are Ok now, and thats what really matters...
Because it was a huge moment for fans. Plus the real reason she left will never be known.
If Melanie C joined Olympic track and field events instead of singing, she make great Olympic Gold, even doing sprinting and hurdles.
It's her dream to represent her country in the olympics one day...I've seen clips of her training in hurdles but when she injured her knees she's lost her confidence. And now it's too late for her to pursue a sports career.
@@musicislife.2602 I thought she never gives up hope for that reason because failure is not the option.
Her top is insane!!
Why is this interviewer so pushy about the geri departure? Cant she sense that Mel C was getting a little bit uncomfortable after all the prodding?
But wasn't there a moment where Mel C eventually recorded on her own rather than with the three girls for their last album?
Yes. That's true.
How did Victoria feel about all of this- did she ever talk about it?
2WheelTonio I meant at the time it happened- she was almost engaged then. It’s a group near and hear to her so I know she cared. She has talked about it in her book
Probably she felt bad, but she remained Friends with Geri, in an interview she said that the only one she mantained contact with was Geri, a few years after Geri left
She's very beautiful!
Mel c has the most level head and Emma
Geri left for one reason. she thought SHE was THE STAR, and wanted to cash as a solo while she could. Nothing at all wrong with that, just OWN IT. Sadly it did not really work out all that well for her. She got some attention out of it, and a few good songs. Geri had a huge ego back then. The most talked about and noticed SG was probably Geri.
yes it did work for her she had huge solo career
David Lomax Geri really didn’t have a huge solo career in regards to music. She did/does have the second best though of the girls.
I think she was genuinely burned out at this point and really couldn't see a different way than leaving. she talked about being depressed and having an eating disorder. She also said she didn't feel like she matters in the group anymore. I think that kinda made her sort of rebel and do her own thing and she was quite seccesful actually.
@@DavidTyler She didn't have a huge solo career hahah
@@nitzanshimron8747 It's so strange to think that she couldn't see how important to the group she was.
If this were my career and i gave everything i had to be successful, i would be so angry as well.
Mel C the best Spice Girl
1:10 the interviewer is really bitter
I feel like this interviewer was trying to goad Mel into talking shit and I didn’t like that
Nah i dont think so. She is genuinely intrigued by what happened and just wants to know their feeling.
Yeah, there was no need for her to diss Geri's solo record (which actually performed very well).
@@Mania28 She was shady as hell towards Geri mentioning her solo record was a flop in the US, well it still sold 3 million worldwide and generally putting a really negative spin on Geri, almost trying hard to get Mel C to talk shit about her. She didn't though. xx
spice girls should release more album
the host trying too hard to throw shade at geri...wtf
Mel C/Sporty Spice still SPORTING track pants 😸
what I don't understand is why make such a big deal out of it now, like, why nobody said anything in the previous reunion back in 2007? Or the 2012 performance?
Cuz Geri popularity call apologizeto the girls and the fans during their tour this time.
@californialuv84 please make a reaction vid for this..
She wanted Mel C to throw shade for views but Mel C didn't fall into the trap. Mel B is curretly throwing shade at Victoria and the thing is the hot topic now
SailorSpears mel c never would either. Mel c isn’t like that.
Why keep bringing up something which happened 21 years ago? Seriously.
Cause she was going through things.....That's why she left.
I can see why she was sporty spice, shes got them buff fem guns!!! 💪
Mel C was telling there's too much drama behind the scenes that hasn't yet revealed.
Mel c inspired me to lift dumb bells...
Gorgeous spice mel c
This interviewer is trying to get the exact reason why Geri left, why should she be the one to get the explicit answer when no one has been able to?
🇧🇴This is for THE SPICE GIRLS I hope you can read this. I am from Bolivia in South America. Im really sad for you dont came to this part of the world. But you could RELEASE the Dvd of Return of the Spice Girls 2007 and Spice World 2019 but you didnt. Why you so bad with fans over the world who can not travel thousands of miles to see you? Why you dont think of fans just want to see you in a Dvd? Why is so complicated to you record a new album? You are in there because of the fans and I think you made a mistake if you are a group exclusive for USA and UK. I hope you can read and answer me. A HUGE FAN OF BOLIVIA 🇧🇴
Sorry but my english is not good I have to try most clear possible yo explain me
💖💖💖💖 your English is very good 😊 and you are right, releasing DVD would be awesome 🤗💖🦄
Geri fired their manager then quit bc she couldn't take it. Sabotage
damn she got hot
she means all the things public doesn't know like how Geri left because Mel B broke Geri's heart and they dated!
that's why they forgave her because they knew what she felt and how painful it was for her.
Love the Spice Girls
I Disney understand. GERI left the SPICE GIRLS Again?or 21years ago?
They had less than 2 years into the spotlight as a 5piece:
- june 1996 - Wannabe
- mai 1998 - Geri leaves
So long story short they were too young and immature to handle all the stress. Someone snapped and left. Then the Spice Girl brand died out.
I wouldn’t say they died cuz to this day they are still the most successful girl group and they sale out every time they go on tour.
1:20 Um... Geri had a great solo career in Europe, especially the UK with 4 #1 hits.
And big hits all around Europe winning awards in France, Germany etc.
Jesy nelson vibes this
What they only together for two and half years
