I got tired of the blue cast on my Firecrest filters (non-ultra). I tried some Haida PRO MC 100mm filters based on an ND comparison / review article by Tim Parkin which i think is the best article on the subject, it covers many 100mm square filters. The Haida Pro MC's are AMAZING!!. Life is too short for blue color cast! Great company. Viva Haida !

Dear Atti, pretty late to put a comment here. But I think, I have mentioned to you that I am using the Rollei filter system. It is similar to Lee, but with a little difference. One can put a polariser & rotate it just like the Haida system, very convenient. The Rollei came with a huge collection of adapter rings. Few of the shots one can see in my Instagram, which I shared with you. The pandemic almost made me forget that I have a dedicated Instagram account for my photos. Stay safe & healthy.
I have both systems and they both work well. I do prefer the Haida because of the drop-in system. I'm a hiker that works in wet and dusty conditions. I like the Haida Drop in circular Polarizer (CPL) much better than the Lee because I am able to keep it clean. Because you grip the drop-in CPL by the top I don't get it dirty taking it on and off like I do with the Lee system. I also find rotating the CPL quite easy with the Haida system. There is just no way to keep the Lee system clean on a 90-degree day with sweat pouring off your body. And on rainy days the CPL or other drop in Haida Filters are recessed (sit back) in the holder and actually stay dry which is great in the Pacific Northwest. Haida has Drop-In ND filters as well which I like. I use the 6 stop ND filter which comes with a rotating circular polarizer so it is two filters in one. I also have the 10 stop ND filter which is also a drop in filter which works well. I'm also still able to use my Lee graduated filters with the Haida system although they are a little tight when first inserted in the Haida holder. I agree with Attilio that you can fix the color cast of the Lee filters in Lightroom. If I was starting all over I would go with the Haida system as it is better suited for an active hiker/photographer.

I use a breakthrough 67mm 10 stop nd filter. IT'S AMAZING. Super sharp, no vignetting, and no color cast. I sometimes use a circular polarizer over it for reflection of water. I LOVE ND FILTERS. They are amazing for getting beautiful landscape images!!!

Or, you can spend a lot of money and buy the Breakthrough Photography filters and not worry about that color shift. But no grads or hard edge options, they are circular only.

Hi Attilio, I just bought the Haida filter M10, can’t wait to try it, I was using the ND variable filter and did not like the results since there is a distortion in the corners when you max it out to 8 stops...can’t wait to try the Haida and you should definitely have a link to sell their products and make some commissions...you deserve it since your videos are watched by many and extremely appreciated! Thank you for making a high quality video. In my opinion, the filters are not that important because you can use any filters with either holder. The only unique filter item is the Haida drop in polarizer, which you didn’t use in this evaluation. I think the important consideration is the quality of the holders. I have an older Lee holder which I didn’t like. I was always afraid it would fall off the camera. I have just ordered the Haida M10 kit which comes with the polarizer but no filters. I have firecrest 4,10, and 16 stop Nd filters which I plan to use with it.

This is probably the very best video on ND filters that I have seen. I have a variety of Lee Filters NDs that I use. After watching this video, I may start switching to Haida for several reasons. This video is very informative and detailed. Thank you for the upload!!!

Good video as usual. I've been using the Lee system for about 7 years and love it. I was surprised to hear you say that the Lee system needed an adapter for their circular polarizer. I have the 105mm filter and it simply screws into the front of the filter holder. You also said you have to rotate the holder to adjust the polarizer. I can independently turn the polarizer without moving the holder. Not sure why the difference. I have never found mine to have such a dramatic blue color cast. Lee tells you that the filters aren't a perfect 10 stops and each varies a bit. This may explain why the Haida filter was lighter than the Lee. I personally liked the Lee final image. Guess I'll stick with the Lee but I'm toying with the idea of getting the new holder.

As a photo enthusiast one reason I don’t use filters it the expense of the Lee system. This side by side comparison makes me more secure in the purchase of the Haida if I choose to purchase filters. As always a great video and wonderful images.

Petes1800 i would definitely go with Haida
depending on the lens you use i would suggest looking at OWl lense adapter which has a drop in filter slot for 52mm filters. I currently bought one for my samyang 14mm 2.8f lens, havent tested it yet, because Iam waiting for my 52mm filter to arrive. Adapter cost 100$ and a 52mm screw in filter from Haida another 30$. This is probably the cheapest option for this lens, since any square filter system would cost at least 200$+

Hello Attilio, very interesting indeed! Loved the easy use of the Haida system which I believe will become very popular if you are into a new filter system. However, I presently own all the Lee system and the new Lee holder and polariser. So, very unlikely that I would be changing anytime soon. For as you know (all) filters are expensive. But if someone was buying for the first time, I believe Haida could do very well...

Im going with screw in type filters. Plenty of rain around Seattle and the M10 system is probably not too practical for me. (Haida US has free shipping and no tax right now) Nikon Z camera and lenses are pretty solid in damp weather. (Not pouring rain of course)

Five years ago, I bought for less than 20 bucks a set of 8 GND filters, 49 to 82mm lens adapters, filter holder and a carrying bag. Well, I'm still trying to take some beautiful pictures like yours, but I think that I need a prescription to renew my eyeglasses.

Great video Attilio, Like you i have the old Lee kit, with the little and big stopper plus polarizer, but i mostly only use the screw on 10 stop Breakthrough filter as it's small, easy and no colour cast

Great informative video... again! Just really starting to get a feel for taking long exposure and when I tried in the early part, I was worried about the colour tinge but happier now that I know that filters can produce the tinge and that it's normal. Many thanks

I bought a circular 10 stops Haida ND filter a few years ago just because of it´s price. Now I am absolutely convinced that it is a great quality filter also. Then I purchased the 6 stops and a soft and of course a filter holder. Much cheaper with amazing results

Very good information. I'm using the Lee system now, with the 10-stop and 3 ND grads. Switching would not be too difficult should I decide to do so. The Haida system looks very good, and with a bit of additional research I may switch. The glass vs. plastic does seem like a good idea.

Great video Attilio. I use the Formatt-Hitech system, which also has a wheel to adjust the polariser, so much easier I think. If I was to switch the Haida system would probably be my choice, I have never really liked the Lee system, I hate that blue colour cast. I do also use Zomei filters and find them pretty good especially considering the price difference. Thanks for sharing!!

Hi Attilio: Thanks for preparing this video. I have been shooting with the Lee Filter System for over 8 years so I have the older style filter holder. The expansion of the filter market has been incredible over the past few years, so I am always looking at new kit. I have narrowed my selection down to Kase Filters, Polar Pro and Breakthrough Photography Filters. Have you considered updating your review of different filters? This is a very good comparison-it makes sense. It looks you mainly use 3 stops GND and a10 stops ND besides CPL. Did you experience any light leaks?

I have the Haida 150 series for the Tamron 15 - 30 G2 on my Nikon D850. Only have the 10 stop ND at this stage but is a great filter set.

I have always used Lee system but really like the Haida holders. Going by the histogram I would say the lee was better as the skyline wasn't blown out. That may be you didn't adjust the filter down as much?? But the whole idea is to stop down the highlights right, so I like the Lee better in that respect. I will have to check into that Haida system. Attilio, a good video against an alternative system. it would be good to do a greater range of filter systems. I chose the NiSi filter kit. There are no colour cast on the images and the filters are well made with glass and include a CPL. The case is worth the money alone. But you've started some good thoughts for people interested in investing in a filter system which is never cheap.

I have moved to Haida Nano Pro circular filters .... CPL and ND ..... although I don’t have the ability to use grads (I need to focus blend instead), I screw the filters together with screw on caps, front and back, and all filters can be slipped into a pocket - takes up little space.... The Haida filters have been excellent and were about $60 USD each including postage

Great video, thanks Atillio. After you removed the blue color cast in the the side-by-side comparison -- it looked to me that the Lee image contained more usable data. I base that on the appearance of the two histograms, and on general image appearance. I'm watching your video on a 4k monitor and have a very fast internet connection. But since I'm not able to view these images directly, but only through your video I have this question: Do you also see a difference in the amount of usable data available in the images between the two systems?

I've been looking to purchase the Lee Filter system. I was actually hoping that they would go on sale during Amazon's prime sale but they didn't. If I remember correctly I saw the price of $773 for the Lee filter system. The difference in price between the Haida and the Lee kit is that with the Lee kit you get 3 graduated ND filters. I checked the Haida and that kit only offers one graduated ND filter. I couldn't find a kit that offers 3 graduated ND filters for Haida. You can correct if I'm wrong. @@pattymattes7124 Not completely sure but I believe that the Lee 100 special landscape system is a mix of glass and resin filters. The Haida filters are made of optical glass. If all the Lee filters are made of optical glass then that seems like a good deal but seeing how their optical glass filters sell individually for around $237.00 and up , I doubt they will all be made of optical glass. @@slowlyrusting4044 I totally understand what you are saying. I did look at the Haida filters. Yes, they are glass. I wish they offered a ND grad set instead of just the one ND grad. Even if they are resin I like the idea of being able to have 3 different strengths of ND grads so I have a choice as to knocking down the brightness of the sky rather than be limited to only one strength ND grad. Hopefully Haida will see this comment or someone who can contact them and ask them to start carrying a set of ND grad filters with their kits. Even Cokin has a ND grad set. If Haida does offer a ND grad set please share the link. I looked and I couldn't find where they offer a set. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong place. I don't know. All I do know is that I would prefer a set that offers different strengths than just being limited to one ND grad filter. That's just me. BTW, I did started out with buying a Cokin ND grad set. No, I'm no expert and I'm still learning. That's why I so enjoy these tutorials/videos from Attilio Ruffo.

Attilio, that was an excellent comparison of the two ND systems. I believe the value is certainly with the Haida. That will be a real contender. Right now I am using the K&F Concept Square Filter ND1000 ( glass) 100x100mm 10 Stop Neutral Density with One Filter Holder and 7 Filter Ring Adapters Compatible with Canon Nikon Camera; and it is working nicely for me while training to learn how to use it for LX... BTW .. I shoot from that same spot a lot at GG but you have that magic.. you can see mine at www.pic-us-america.com... click picture frame next to orange smiley face.. see if you can see Washington's profile : ) at GG. I have Haida 100 and 150 Filter System. Pol filter on the 150 system fall off with the front part of the filter by rotating. Now I have Wine Country Filter System and I look to no other systems. Is perfect, no friction, secured, no fingerprints on glass no color cast.

Attillio, did you set white balance to Auto on the camera when you shot the images, or did you use the same WB setting for both images?

Has anyone tried the round Kase system. It is magnetic for easy changes and very portable. Sharon Tenenbaum is now using round Kase ND filters.

At the moment I use screw-on filters and they are a bit of a pain to swap out.

The best ND filters are made by Wine Country Camera (WCC). They are light tight and do NOT produce any color cast. The quality of the holder, the glass and the frames that hold the filters are by far the best I've ever used. I've owned Lee and Hi Tech filters - both of which produced very strong color cast. Actually, WCC is a California based company (as the name implies), so I think they're in your part of the country. Since long exposure photography is your speciality suggest you check them out.

I don’t think it’s fair enough to compare Lee Big Stopper with Haida ND1000. Big stopper was released in March 2010, there were no other brands’ ND1000 then. Haida ND1000 was released in 2017 or later.
Please use the LEE new series ProGlass IRND which released in June 2017 to make comparisons. I have test more than ten brands’ ND1000 till now. I am surprised by the ProGlass’ consistency of quality, not only the color cast but also the resolution, it is absolutely the best ND filters in the world. It also provide 15 stops which is very helpful at bright environment. So far as I know, any other brands haven’t 15 stops ND filters, because they haven’t the devices to test the amount of light transmittance which is 1/32000.

I've been using Breakthrough filters. They screw in and quite honestly they are a pain some times to attach to the lens. Other than that, they work pretty good -- no color cast and clarity is great.

Hi! I cannot find a 10 stop nd filter and a 3 stop graduated on my budget :( do you think circular filters one and the other should work for circular nd filters??? Or any idea about a system as those you show but less expensive? I found extremely cheap and probably so bad optiones or really expensive ones...

I found your channel about a month ago and I'm thoroughly hooked, repeatedly educated, and constantly inspired. I *thought* I heard you mention (in the Yellowstone Park video) that you were using the Haida M10. I bought it (based on that) & took my first long exposure shot about a week ago (gurushots.com/photo/a2e0a5290e74924a20558b76cc35c09b). The M10 system is excellent - very sturdy, easy to manipulate, and the filters (esp. the Red Diamond ND3.0) are very impressive.
I'm still trying to find my own particular aesthetic - both in the lens and in post/Lightroom - and I'm not there yet, but it's a lot of fun to work on. I think I tend to 'overcook' in post, as I think a lot of newbies do. Your series on your editing/processing techniques is, again, incredibly informative & inspiring. However, you don't make a lot of 'mistakes', but a lot of us do, so I thought it might be very helpful to see the 'wrong' process deconstructed then reconstructed. I was wondering if you would you ever consider doing a video where you compare your technique to that of an amateur - For example, have someone send you both their RAW file and their processed image and let us see what you'd do differently. In any event, thanks very much for doing what you do.

I tried the Haida filter system out today and was quite pleased. The one thing that bothers me is that with the Haida holder in place, it is not possible to put a lens cap on the camera. I spoke with Haida USA today and they indicate that they hope to have a solution for this in the next months. I guess that I'll have to wait till I get set up at the photography site to screw on the holder.
A long exposure predawn exposure had a significant blue tint that was corrected in Lightroom.

Ive just upgraded to the lee filter system(old), i dont get that blue cast that you show, i do set my white balance manually for each scene though, could be the difference
Possibly the newer series doesn't get the blue cast, I don't get the blue cast in the 6 stops but just in the 10 stops...
A little out my price can you compare with cheaper like Amazon filters
