I'm a lil late (10 years ago I wasn't allowed to have a cellphone (seeing as I was 10)) but hot DAMN that really was the og instance of making out as a form of distraction
I think the gender/body swap was Roddenberry saying "Fuck it. Let's heavily imply that it's canon on the very last episode of Star Trek." They touched so much in this episode and there were numerous other implications to their relationship. Whether romantic or platonic, Jim and Spock do have a relationship. And there's no way that anyone can really deny that...I'm not saying in a strictly romantic sense, because that's not what their relationship is about. It's about completion through another.
"You are closer to the Captain than anyone in the universe." - Kirk (in Janice's body) Hell, I don't even need to see the entire vid to prove the slashiness. That line right there says it all. :P
hell even my mom noticed that one in the ep. "Are they holding hands? isn't that actually kirk?" yes ma. and what about that neck jerk Spock does during the mind meld? what is Kirk doing to him? (okay S/Mc is my OTP but I do acknowledge the K/S as canon.)
Ah, the last episode of The Original Series, the one that finally confirmed that Spirk is canon for all blind people out there who deny it. I mean, it doesn't take that much of comprehension to remember that Dr. Lester's body is occupied with Kirk and Spock acknowledges it too and yet he takes the captain by the hand which is definitely unnatural for Vulcans AND Spock (although he's half Vulcan), because remember kids you DO NOT touch a Vulcan, you do not give them high fives or handshakes, they are sensitive alien beings. It's more than Spock just grabbing Kirk. If you look at the scene where they're running from the tiger, Kirk actually has his arm around Spock and they're grabbing each others' hands. Then they both run over to a wall and kind of kknock into each other; it's a cute scene.
Spock assesses the situation as he holds onto Janice*Kirk*s hand knowing Janice's frail body would never survive an attack. Protect Jim at all costs! It's at the end of the scene, after Spock and Kirk (in Lester's body) walk out into the hallway. You can see Spock reaching back to take his/her hand at 1:34.
I am pretty sure they have touched hands or briefly held them, like, at least one or two times in this series. I know they definitely did in the episode where the whole enterprise is drunk due to some disease or whatever it was.
I feel like even William Shatner ships spirk. For instance, they were filming the scene where there was a hearing in this episode but janice was still "kirk". Anyways, Shatner was supposed to say: "Spock give it up. Come back to the "Enterprise" family. All charges will be dropped. Depends on the culture. In the Middle East and some places in India it's quite normal for straight men who are friends or especially relatives to walk around holding hands or with their arms around each other, because personal space is different there.
And that is exactly what makes this so meaningful. On Vulcan, where Spock was raised, holding hands is an extremely affectionate gesture typically reserved for only the closest loved ones. This is because Vulcan hands are a very sensitive area due to their touch-telepathy and therefore place high value on personal space in general. So the cultural differences are precisely what makes this moment (and every other moment Spock casually touches Kirk) so important, it may mean nothing in many countries, but in this context it is very telling.
@worldgoesboom I agree, he's more holding her wrist so he can direct her where to move so she'll be shielded by him. He does tend to get really close to people when he mind meld's with them, too.
yup. They do. A hand touch in a certain way is a Vulcan kiss.
