spock helping kirk forget, was a true example of their love and friendship for each other. spock might call it something else or dismiss it, but his actions speak louder than the word love.
Much less after McCoy utters "love isn't written into your book", Spock shows his greatest act of love. Betraying his ideals, the sanctity of mind meld, to alleviate his captain's pain. However you may look at it, friendship, romance - McCoy was wrong. Spock is fully capable of love and acts of love. Just not in obvious ways.
I love how Deforest Kelly delivers McCoy's speech about love at 9:56. It's short but he gives it a "been there, done that" gravitas, and whoever the scriptwriter was did a hell of a job in penning those lines.

Other than "I Love Lucy," Star Trek was my favorite show as a kid growing up. It was most probably the first network show to really create deep characters of a familiar nature. We all have a little Mr. Spock in us and it's a testament to Leonard Nimoy that we do! His Spock became a national cultural icon we will always treasure - These were surely the voyages of a special actor and human being.
I remember attending a Star Trek convention in the 70's where they were showing the episode "Amok Time". When they got to the scene shown here 9:36 where Spock finds out Kirk is alive "Captain... Jim!!!", the audience burst out in applause.
"You are not to risk the ship any further on my behalf." "Shut up, Spock! We're rescuing you!" "Why, thank you...Captain McCoy." rofl. Gotta love Spock. :D Great video. Thanks for posting.
Respectfully, I don't think it "screwed him up" but, allowed him to understand his half-human side and inter-act with the humans more than a pure Vulcan ever could. As much as he tried to suppress his humanity, it always ended up with him doing the "human' thing, like what he did in ST II. Pretty awesome writing, IMO!
I don’t remember that episode, I’ll have to look for it now. It was always cool when Spock showed in his own way how much he respected and cared for Kirk and McCoy
Spock: Can you give me warp 8? Scotty: Aye, sir. And maybe a wee bit more. I'll sit on the warp engines myself and nurse them. Spock: That position, Mr. Scott, would not only be unavailing, but also... undignified.

Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most ... human."
Man, I woke up this friday, read the news... and the first article of the newspaper led me to this reaction: 4:10 R.I.P Leonard Nimoy - Now on his final travel to the stars.
Mr. Nimoy may have been typecast, but he played an unknown character in that point in television history to the point of legendary status. Most illogical, but funny. Others, were simply not nearly as good.
I dunno, I would not go so far as to say that Nimoy was typecast. He did voice at least 1 villain in Master Xehanort from the Kingdom Hearts series. Although, I guess the fact I can only really name Spock and Master Xehanort for the roles he played, perhaps he was typecast.
Galen Malen i only know him from star trek and an episode of columbo, in which he did play a some-what serious, very smart character, but i wouldn’t say that was an incident of typecasting
The last scene is exactly wouldn't happen, I wouldn't forget Mr. Nimoy/Spock and his contributions to making the world a better place. You have my heartfelt thanks!
