Nice addition. Full support for Valera. The guy trained with Dennis, Alexey, beside Babken. He has very strong teammates. It's gonna be interesting.
I'm not condoning people's harsh criticism of these matches between lesser-known athletes, but I understand where they're coming from. Since its inception, KOTT has been perceived as the premium armwrestling event, where all the best or most famous/hyped athletes would clash in blockbuster vendetta matches. With the later editions starting to promote new names, the "premium" feeling has probably started to decrease, leading to a bit of frustration from some.
I don't quite follow how an 8x national champion and a gold and silver European medalist with a 17k following is considered a new name in the sport? Elsewhere on the cards, Devon, Georgi, Ermes, Vitaly, Larry, Leonidas, Lars, Serhii aren't huge names? I genuinely don't follow..
@@MattRhodesSport Don't take this the wrong way, Matt. I'm not disputing the legitimacy of the names in the sport, I'm just saying some of them don't resonate as strongly with the broader audience (obviously I'm referring to the women's match in this case, not the names you listed above).
A good portion of the KOTT events featured people who were already popular in the community from social media exposure (even without having armwrestling expertise - see Larry or Khaled), so there was this glittery aspect of it. Now, less popular names start to emerge (also more matches) and that might take some people by surprise. Again, I'm not bashing your initiative, I'm just giving my 2 cents on why you may sometimes receive this type of negative reaction from the community.
Even Tom Brady had his first day on the big stage.

Also, Ain’t no way Valera is tougher than Matte-Morris. Valera just started arm wrestling 2 maybe 3 years ago and has only had one super match his whole life. Easy win for Lars since he was able to handle a more experienced and probably stronger opponent in Metta-morris.
Remember guys, more doesn’t always mean better. What separates KOTT is the quality of the matches rather than quantity of matches. In my opinion KOTT is the grandest stage to compete in. People from east vs west get recognized and get placed at KOTT. Shouldn’t try and set up as many matches as Engin does. What matters is high quality. 5 high matches is perfect but I understand budget might not be there yet to set that up. Good work though Matt!
