Extraordinarily lucky when you take everything into account - it could easily have ended up in many other places where it could not be picked up. To you, it sounds like it was worth it. For me, it is definitely worth it.
The thing is, this is not a massive amount of lava. It is only arojnd 13 cubic meters per second. That's compared to cubic kilometers (1 billion cubic meters) that can be released by truly massive volcanoes.
how were you able to get better than fpv camera quality if the drone was destroyed. I am guessing you transmitted the high quality video wirelessly ? What method did you use?
I think the drone suffered already in a fatal way when it flew through the hot gases before entering the caldera. The heat from the magma must be incredible. Awesome footage.

I often wonder about the amount of lava that's spewing out. What happens to the space it leaves? Does it all just end up as underground caves or what, when it eventually cools.
@@myapinion7532 it doesn’t leave any space, as such. The tectonic plates are melted and that material is squeezed out at the surface as a lava flow. It solidifies, thus restoring the solid material that forms the outer crust of the earth. In practice, it’s a bit more complicated than that, but that is, roughly speaking, the process.

This comes closest to jumping into the volcano yourself, happy bit is the aftermath however, you are able to relive the moment over and over again and it doesn't hurt (maybe financially once). Epic footage!

The coolest thing is that now these things are becoming so affordable that a typical middle classer can afford to wreck a drone into an active volcano caldera and put up the full quality feed on UA-cam in the same day. My how the drone world has changed since I started back in 2010. From having to build your own FPV design airplanes costing hundreds to pocket sized 4k multirotors ready to go for cheap. I guess hot air creates less lift, right? And air that hot is probably less dense than a helium balloon at room temperature.
This one flew into the flying pieces of hot lava. Molten rock is still heavy!
I'm guessing this is what happened... not enough time to compensate the air density and down it went.
I tend to think the tips of the props melted, reducing lift.
So this is what the high ground looks like in 4K. Huh, neat.
