    Forget the crashing into the volcano. That footage it took prior to crashing was what was spectacular. Without drones we wouldn't have video like that. I am in total awe of the power of that volcano and the technology that allowed us to see it.

      That’s exactly what I was thinking, a second drone following filming in slow mo, to capture of the drone melted at all before it disappeared into the lava and was consumed. Amazing footage!!!

      Great video until the end, but I mean the "sacrifice" in the end would have been avoidable and it doesn't really make sense to me. Why should you literally burn thousands of euros? Is that refinanced through additional likes? I do not think so.

      Extraordinarily lucky when you take everything into account - it could easily have ended up in many other places where it could not be picked up. To you, it sounds like it was worth it. For me, it is definitely worth it.

      The thing is, this is not a massive amount of lava. It is only arojnd 13 cubic meters per second. That's compared to cubic kilometers (1 billion cubic meters) that can be released by truly massive volcanoes.

    I think the drone suffered already in a fatal way when it flew through the hot gases before entering the caldera. The heat from the magma must be incredible. Awesome footage.

      I often wonder about the amount of lava that's spewing out. What happens to the space it leaves? Does it all just end up as underground caves or what, when it eventually cools.

      @@myapinion7532 it doesn’t leave any space, as such. The tectonic plates are melted and that material is squeezed out at the surface as a lava flow. It solidifies, thus restoring the solid material that forms the outer crust of the earth. In practice, it’s a bit more complicated than that, but that is, roughly speaking, the process.

    Millions of years after humans became extinct, aliens or a drone came to earth. They take rock samples and then find the remains of your drone in a million-year-old lava rock! Who knows. In any case, a really cool video

    This comes closest to jumping into the volcano yourself, happy bit is the aftermath however, you are able to relive the moment over and over again and it doesn't hurt (maybe financially once).

In this endeavor, this Unmanned Aerial Vehicle accomplished something never quite done before: to give us but a glimpse of the true destructive capabilities of Mother Nature.

    The coolest thing is that now these things are becoming so affordable that a typical middle classer can afford to wreck a drone into an active volcano caldera and put up the full quality feed on UA-cam in the same day. My how the drone world has changed since I started back in 2010. From having to build your own FPV design airplanes costing hundreds to pocket sized 4k multirotors ready to go for cheap. Wild times. 🙂

    I'm hesitant to fly my drones over fresh water -- you've got the cahoonas(sp?) to fly over lava. Over *LAVA* for Christ sakes!!! 🔥👍🔥

      My guess is mistake. I'm guessing they planned to fly over it, but the heat probably melted the props and it just dove into the lava.

      the goggles are the most expensive thing though, dji air unit is 170 euro and u can strap it on any cheap drone
