Those were the ones they used when I was a very young kid, those and the old Gillig Phantoms. Fishbowl will always be my favorite bus. Great to see the old home colors again, too. Sacro Mental!
I really love public transportation to be honest with you Bus Driver Life. I'm glad to be a new subscriber to this channel because I'm a transit enthusiast.
My goodness! I grew up in Cincinnati Ohio and I remember when Cincinnati Transit received these buses in 1960 or '61. They called them Dreamliners. Dang I'm old. I remember them being featured on the news. Yes I was a 7-8 year old kid that watched the news...Love your videos Keyshawn! Keep posting brother!
I love when buses drive on the expressway because I get to hear the transmission. I got to ride on the expressway when my friend was a bus operator when she was running late and we got to chat before I went home. I would get to remember my history of that experience. We had a CTA 75th Anniversary last year and I rode a GMC bus and the older trains, my bus driver friend from NYC came up here for that because he loves public transportation. Thank you very much Bus Driver Life!
When everybody was low riding impalas in the 80s, I used to scratch my head as a kid wondering when someone was going Grab a ton of these GM Dreamliners and turn them into Land Yacht Crusiers. All that aluminum could be polished to a chrome mirror, It could ride on alcoa 22.5s and have a Stereo that is outta this world.
Those I think were called fish bowl or something were going into retirement when I was a kid growing up in San Antonio and I rode on this particular model only a few times.
Wow bro I’ve seen and road when I was a kid buses that look older than that one and I’m sure there was from the same time that looks pretty new. I don’t wanna say that we’re way behind where I’m at. Lol. Love the videos again.
The history is pretty neat. Last year's bus roadeo in Virginia had restored buses on display as well as new buses of different types. It was pretty cool to go through them. Oldest one was from the 50's if I recall correctly.
Before the New Look Bus ( Fish Bowls) they were called. The first one's be for fish bowls were Old Look bus. They had much smaller window's all around. They were built I believe from the late 40ts till early 60ts 65ish... Best two buses GMC Ever built!!!
In college I drove a 1961 GMC SDM-5301. Had an 8V-71 Detroit and a 4 speed. Drove really well, stable at highway speeds, and could do 70 with the Suburban (the S in SDM) gearing.
There used to be UA-cam videos of these bus models still in service in the early 1990s before ADA & state/federal emmisions regulations changed. I believe it was from San Diego Transit (now SD MTS) & Santa Monica Big Blue Bus.
Isn't it gorgeous!! Seriously old school with the narrow doors and high floor and sloping windows, but this used to be standard transit bus design in America before European influence hit.
I live up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the city had used these buses right up until 2009! They eventually retired the fleet and sold a few off to some countries, one I know of going to Estonia. Now the city has a large fleet of New Flyer buses. As nice as these GMC buses were, they really struggled up hill compared to their New Flyer counterparts. The city had these GMC buses in white with blue and yellow stripes on the side until they started using silver and blue.
My new job has Iveco , Cummins and Allison transmissions. Most companies use Scania or Volvo in Australia . These American buses are so much better in every way. I love those old GM buses , wish I had the chance to drive one. We had old Ansairs made in Australia in the 80s . They ran forever and easy to drive , they were called Mk1 and Mk2 . They are all gone now but , definitely a good bus.
in Lakewood new jersey we have like a 14 buses in great condition from 1966 fo 2006....is been save from transit bus drivers...they use them as a museum...
I LOVED the GMC Buses.. ❤️❤️
Me too!!
I hope it is saved and preserved. It is a tangible piece of transportation history.

Welcome!!
They used to have those buses in NYC with green tinted windows.

I'm from Toronto & our last remaining GM New Look buses remained in active service until mid December 2011
I use to ride them everyday back in the 60s and 70s
hopefully one of the transit agencies will completely restore it. What a relic.
I remember riding on those

❤ The video! Timing and camera movement.. Good in details
Awesome video Bus Driver Life. I miss these GMC buses, i also bought a Prevost X3-45 bus so I would ride that bus when I go on vacation.
I remember riding on them here in Sac.
Let’s fix it!

I’ve actually rode on old buses that you see in movies, the old style from the south .
Fish Bowl!!😊

My home city used to have these buses when I was little. But i rarely saw them. The last time they were ever used was in 2011.

Anyone getting "Speed" vibes from Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock? 😄😂
I can't wait to visit your city so I could ride them Gilligs and Orions up there because of the loud voith transmission.
I miss the old school buses but I love our fleet for IndyGo because we just order more Gillig BRT Plus Hybrid buses.

Cool bus. Unitrans in Davis had a bunch of these

Fort Worth Texas Trinity Metro has a GMC fully restored. It’s beautiful.

That’s cool! I need to visit!
@@BusDriverLife yes we have a few....is like driver who retired made a society and save all this buses...
Looks alot like the old buses in Florida.
Where I’m from (London), these buses aren’t produced or sold here. But it’s really interesting to see buses from North America.
Those were D.C.Transit.and Metrobus staples in DMV...Those buses were retired because they weren't handicap accessible
that old bus, the scheme looks like the bus used in Fresno CA FAX.
that's incredible! where did you locate this bus?
The boardwalk in on Greenback rd right outside of Sacramento
An old 5301 Fishbowl. I wonder if it's for sale.
Ac transit. ❤
Preserve it
I would if it were mine!
We were only allowed to sit in the back of these! 😢
Well these came out when that started to go away but at the beginning you are correct! These buses were work horses in the 70’s and 80’s…even the 90’s
Howard payne wants to know your location ss a scottish guy this bus is one of the most iconic buses in history!!
Does it still run?
I’m not sure. I literally spotted this bus while driving so I stopped to film it real quick.
Make me sad too when seats are removed. I don't care for busses being used as motor homes.
That bus definitely needs a paint job.
Do they plan to restore it?
Would you ever buy a transit bus for personal use like your own bus
it's a version from the Eighties, not one from the Sixties 💡💡💡
Ok I guess my research was wrong. I’ll have to double check. Maybe I have the wrong bus. Thanks!
Ada seats???
Did you drive a articulated bus?
Not currently.
respray it with modern livery, and a new engine lol.
