That's one of my pet peeves. I recall a sketch on it way back. Can't remember which country or show now, possibly here in Australia but it was an announcer/news reader using a thick accent from a particular country to pronounce the names of people from there i.e. a soccer team or some such whilst using an exaggerated normal accent the rest of the time and looking really pretentious each time he pronounced the names.
It's the same phenomenon as putting on an accent when pronouncing foreign food. Like anyone outside of Italy would just say "spaghetti bolognese" but these people all of a sudden become like "🤌spáhgéhttī bőlônyəzzï 🤌"

May I say, as an actual white Latina, that while Rachel is of Latin descent, I believe she has no right to call herself Latina. Being Latina has much more to do with culture than just bloodline. This is why the Studio System was great and I look forward to its eventual return. Movie stars will be contracted to the studios again with the families of those great studio chiefs like Louis B. Mayer of MGM in charge again. I think Gina's tweets might have been in the gap between seasons. Cutting her out was something they could do without massive disruption. It's very possible that Rachel will be permanently blacklisted. If you're an actor, you don't want to work with someone who has a history of PR catastrophes and who has been vocal about not wanting to be there. If you're trying to get your career off the ground, you don't want to be tied to someone who views being in snow white as '18 hours in a dress'. That seems like an infectious lack of joy. If you WANT TO BE THERE, it's insulting to be next to someone whose level of enthusiasm might suggest they'll phone it in. A perception of lacking professionalism or being difficult has ruined careers before. SO Disney might hate her. But until they've squeezed out snow white, they're stuck with her.

I think Gina's tweets might have been in the gap between seasons. Cutting her out was something they could do without massive disruption. It's very possible that Rachel will be permanently blacklisted. If you're an actor, you don't want to work with someone who has a history of PR catastrophes and who has been vocal about not wanting to be there. If you're trying to get your career off the ground, you don't want to be tied to someone who views being in snow white as '18 hours in a dress'. That seems like an infectious lack of joy. If you WANT TO BE THERE, it's insulting to be next to someone whose level of enthusiasm might suggest they'll phone it in. A perception of lacking professionalism or being difficult has ruined careers before.

IMO, the problem is less that she's not Puerto Rican, but more that she was dismissive about it. Something with the tone of "I want to be someone the Puerto Ricans would be happy to claim as their own" rather than "Puerto Rico doesn't matter if it gets in the way of me having a job" would have been a better way to go.
