- Oh boy! Join me for some large family big batch cooking where we mega meal prep many pounds of ground beef, sausage, and homegrown chicken! We get a bunch of big batch cooking done by cooking all this meat in advance in the slow cookers, pressure cookers, and in the stock pots on the stove. We process the meat (lots of CHICKEN PICKING 😆 going on in this video!). I'm a few weeks postpartum with baby number 9, but this was a fun mega meal prep project that I felt ready to do. It’s just hubby and me at home now, but I still make up her big batch meals! I just freeze them in small aluminum pans, about enough for our dinner and lunch the next day!

Its just me hubby and dog I love freezer meals too...but even after all my babies grew up and out 7years ago I still end up cooking for at least 4😃but yay leftovers
the same here. i live with my boy friend. but he don´t like the food that i like to eat. he´s only eating ground beef and sausages. i like to eat lots of vegetables, he don´t like vegetables^^
I also only cook for 1 but I'm in UK so don't get lots of the ingredients you use but love the videos
It’s true, I lived alone for four years with a demanding job (before 👑). I used to travel a lot and couldn’t keep food in my fridge. This channel showed me how to prepare freezer meals. After a week of travelling I’d come home sometimes late at night or mid week and i could have prepared meals in the freezer and I didn’t have to think of shopping for food.
Chicken is one of the most universal meat there is. You can make so many meals with chicken. Thanks for reminding me about the bone broth I need to start saving the bones. Take care and have a blessed day 💖

Girl, I don't know how you do it. I shop for by husband and I and my dad. I had planned to go to Walmart, Kroger and the Dollar Tree today. Once I was finished at Walmart, I was pooped.

Your country chillens!! My nieces are growing up in the country out in New Mexico and while they were up here in Idaho, they were playing "tornado!" These kids will have great imaginations, better that way. BTW, as a new mom again.. The fact that you can multi-task while multi-tasking and being able to make sense speaking! AMAZING!
I love seeing that I'm not the only one mass processing chicken...I cook for my service dog and season for us. I know every crook and crevice holding a meat pocket😉
I run a whole chicken in my Instant Pot for 75 minutes or so then process the bird and chill the insert so the next day I remove the fat...that next day I run a 2nd chicken in that same broth and add 2 cups of water instead of the 1 cup like I did the first round and process that bird and chill the insert to get the fat off...use that insert again, yes with all the broth, except the 3rd and final time I simmer that bird on the stove at low simmer for a few hours keeping liquid just above the bird and this time the broth is soooooo rich you can see it😁
Can you still make bone broth when the bones are so brittle they nearly dissolve in your hand if squished?? Something tells me no...🤔
I remember when my 9 was young and coming home after ball games to some prepared chicken like yours in the freezer. I thought I had no more and it was a HALLELUHA moment!

WHEN i batch cook hamburger i always add onion and garlic. Then store for multiple meals.
Yes, I’ll do that as well. Plus different times I’ll add peppers and even mushrooms depending on what meals I think I’ll get to. It’s a lot juggling kids in life and think through batch cooking, LOL.
The home that we moved into in 2019 has a woodstove and we absolutely love it. It can be alot of work but it is so worth it. There just something about wood heat

Ooooooooh I love picking chicken! Especially the two bits of meat on the underside that are juicy. They're *mine* and my family don't know they exist as they always get scoffed before picking ends.

You can sauté some onion and celery in butter. Add to broth, heat. Then use that instead of water to cook rice. OMG. My mom did that for me, her, and my brother. The rest were not rice eaters.

Those wood stoves (we call them wood heaters) are very very common in the Australian southern states. Most people have them in the living room. A lot are free standing (rather than being built into the wall) so you can cook on top of them too if you like.

I’ve done this forever and I only had 2 children. It works great for smaller families as well. Sometimes you just don’t feel like cooking or you’ve had a very busy day and you’re running out of time. Having meat and broth at hand is a HUGE timesaver. I can throw a pot of soup together super fast. This also works great for veggies. I chop and bag onions and peppers for the freezer as well as onions, carrots and celery. My taco soup and chicken enchiladas take peppers and onions and my shepherds pie and chicken pot pie take the onions, carrots and celery. It’s also great to freeze individual bags of prepped veggies. Farmers market hauls and grocery store sales are a great way to fill your freezer with bags of prepped veggies and you take out what you need for a recipe and then pop the rest back in the freezer. 👍🏻

Our kids are so excited seeing the life form right in front of their eyes and it makes them appreciate our momma chickens and ducks even more. I have been doing batch cooking for years, also. I have, though, stepped up my game since watching you. When I buy ground meat (from Sam's), I go ahead and season it with onion and garlic while it is cooking. Everything I cook using ground meat has onion and garlic in it, so I can skip steps later. I do separate out meat for Tex-Mex dishes and add cumin, chili powder, etc before freezing. And I cook pounds of black beans to freeze and add to Tex Mex recipes and freeze them in 2 cup bags. I love being able to toss a meal together so easily.
Turkeys, perhaps raising turkeys could be the next new addition to the homestead and eventually used for freezer meals.
We always cook our ground meats and then freeze it. It is so much faster. Most recipes want you to cook your meat before the recipe begins. A real time saver.
I'm so happy tonight watching this.... The responsibility to care, nurture, cook, etc., for your family is ENORMOUS! And so is gettin' those frog family names down! Those things are very important too.

When batch cooking beef/turkey, after cooking, spread it out on a cookie sheet and "flash freeze" the meat. Once set, then put in a container and put in the freezer. This makes it easy to just grab a handful instead of a big clump when you need it.

I use the defrost in cold water method a lot! When I forget to take food out of the freezer in time, it works very well!
