You should do a Hardcore/Frenchcore tutorial. That'd be awesome.
You're mixing hardstyle with hardcore... thats why the BPM is so high on the other track. hardstyle is between 145 150 BPM and hardcore is 170 180BPM
Hardstyle can go down to 140 and a lot of hardcore is 160, Endymion - power of knowledge is at about 145. BPM doesn't dictate genera
sSPACEBALLSs
It's not the be all end all, but almost every hardstyle track released is 150bpm and mainstream hardcore is usually 160-180bpm. Doesn't always define the genre but most of the time it does.
+TheDisciple indeed, i named my first hardstyle mix OneFiveO as a dedication to it magical 150 bpm
+TheDisciple almost all hardstyle tracks are released at 150 bpm and played at 155 bpm yeah. only guys like warface and radical redemption release at 152~160 bpm
DJ Salvation but what is about angerfist for example (around 180 bpm)
good stuff man! just a tip for you guys on youtube (doesn't work for everyone but I think it's kinda neat) when you have groupings of 4's one way is to count: ONE two three four, TWO two three four, THREE two three four, FOUR two three four etc . That way you always know where you are at..
Eventually you feel phrasing of eight bars naturally anyways (obviously you have it down) but just wanted to share this! love Zeppelin btw ;) cheers from Sweden!
i clicked on this because I was wondering on how you usually spin hardstyle, and I was wondering what kind of tracks you were going to use.
And I'm not going to lie, from a fan of the genre back when it was in its hayday the tracks you picked made me smile. Excellent choice of songs.
you are an angel from heaven dedicated for a dj that want to expand the knowledge about mixing... keep it going man....
one track is older hardstyle with a slower bpm,, and the other track is hardcore
Hardcore is perfect for mixing with some Hardstyle tracks, for example if you want to transition from Hardstyle to Hardcore, alot of DJ's do this in the end of their sets.
this really helped with my past comment about struggling to match bpm with huge differences thank you ☺
cool tutorial. I like it, I mix hardstyle also. today 99% of producers make hardstyle on 150bpm so its not that difficult to mix it. problem is the key/note of the first track outro and next track intro. if the bass is not on the same key it sounds a bit veird but its ok. what you made here is mixing hardstyle track with hardcore/gabber track and it was good way to show how it works because its very different in tempo speed
Absolutely love your videos Jono! Your terrible jokes along with your huge knowledge makes your videos so much better then others to watch :D
Acctually it is Bulldozer Project - Arise (Bulldozer Remix) just as stated before :)
if you have the master tempo on and increase the pitch quite a lot you will start to get a slight change in the sound of the tune.. but this is down to the soft wear. perhaps an explination in a video soon
j
Oh and thank you a ton mate you have helped me tighten up my muz so much. You are an amazing teacher!!!!!!
Keep up the great work.
The 2nd track is Hardcore dude!!
PsyWolf its the more modern Hardstyle
Nope. Not a single hardstyle track will be at 170 bpm originally. They are always around 150 bpm.
very good kit!
Yes you can. Or if you want you can take the slow track and speed it up as well. Just depends on what you want to do with it.
Thank you for helping me make up my mind on what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow.
Oh and the mixing tutorial
alot of em make playlists in advance. you can listen to songs and choose which ones are around the same key and/or tempo and put them in a playlist ready to go. or they listen to the cue'd track thru the headphones and get it ready whilst the other is playing. Once you listen to a lot of music, its pretty easy to differentiate the beats, and be able to get it on time
Johnathan, not hardstyle related but since you brought up "master tempo" - have you noticed that while playing drum&bass the master tempo button garbles up the low end and gives it a weird audible "pulse". I've noticed it with the old 800MK2s and with the newer 850s aswell.
Easiest song I notice it with is Cant Get Enough by Camo+Krooked (watch?v=ewDP0XnKxio) from 0:44 onwards. I play it on the CDJs with master tempo on and the pulsing is clear as day.
your actually such a legend your videos are great and such a massive help :) lol
I'm almost 2000% sure the tempo going up isn't whats making the peoples evenings "higher"
You dance faster & your heartbeat gets faster too so in a way it does...
Dj Nefroz Euphoric/Raw Hardstyle Promotion its a joke
Awesome! I was waiting for another hardstyle video!
Hardstyle is what I live for I'm just saying sound pretty good in that room
I thought you explained this really well. Also showed how you mixed in Hardstyle and Hardcore together as well as using some cool effects. E.g. the backspin. Do you have anymore videos about mixing Hardstyle?
dude you were so awsum in this tutorial..keep it up
Finally you found hardstyle! : )) my favourite genre : ) it's awesome to mix it : D
aha those dolls are pleased! good to see different styles in your channel
Only problem for me with this tutorial is the blend of the 2 styles. This feels more like a transition between them (it is all mixing I know). Also I would like to add that your earlier Dj Tutorials can be used for mixing this kind of music aswell :)
I like the info you gave about using the key...with the mater tempo
Love your introduction! Hardstyle isnt the same anymore ....
Oh no, I agree on that. Everyone likes different things, and that's good.
hardstyle producing ' 150 bpm '
djing in club ' 153/154 bpm '
Love (:
This is the result of Master Tempo algorithm. Pioneer players (almost all of them, I don't know how about CDJ 2000nexus) use this algorithm called "Resampling". What it does, it doubles one frame of your track (if you slow your track down) or skips one frame of your track (if you speed it up) from time to time. As a result, you get weird glitches like string ripping in Trance, or beats doubling/skipping in many genres. Your "pulse" is probably a result of resampling being not reliable enough.
Yes they do, check out the Theracords or Spoontech record labels ;)
Hardstyle is my favorite electronic genre
thanks
I find this sort of thing very difficult to teach unless the person your teaching can play an instrument or can dance. Basically, your potential (learner) DJ must have an intrinsic and natural understanding of rhythm and beats. If they can't dance on the spot in time (or march in time, even), they're unlikely to ever learn the trade.
Your videos are great though, and it's cool to see how DJ's go about tutoring those with the ability to become a DJ. :)
The track on the right CDJ, is more into the Hardcore genre. But hey, its to genres that mix very well. Especially the mainstream hardcore which is way more melodic than for instance industrial hardcore.
Anyways...
Great tutorial! Thumbs Up!
You should do one on the current styles of trance please!
Subscribed! your mental!! But so am i so I get what your saying .
I'm actually thinking about buying some decks and giving DJing a go, any sugestions on something the same style as yours with the two turntables and the controls in the centre £150 quid ish?
it's souds hard to do but when you get the point it's easy and the video is mixing hardstyle with hardcore so the name is of but the rest is real good
erm just a few things: if the 2nd track is 180 bpm isnt it gabber? the second is rather than counting beats count the phrases and line them up at the break. i mix with turntables and cdjs and if im mixing with turntables i just listen for the break and bring in the next track knowing its all fine because in any hard genre of music they are always 32 bars in a phraze (i mainly mix UK hardcore, hardstyle and drum and bass)
Hardcore for Life!
The 2nd track is hardcore
hey man hope you get this your a very good teacher i recently became a dj hope i become as good as you
Nice . always love ur vids
This one is fab! Good tutorial and great humor!
awesome ellaskins thanks for ur tips m8 ill be trying it cheers thumbs up
OMG this is a dream come true - Johnathan is mixing HS
Very good video tutol! Like Always thank
Mate do you do lessons online? When I watch these videos I do forget so easy
Love hardstyle and mixing it
The point? It is a great video on how to mix different genres that IMO are incredibly similar and differ really on BPM. This isn't an instructional video on splitting hairs and music genres. Not to mention Ellaskins has no hair to split.
ohhhh dude are those the 2000nexus CDJs? How do you like them? I'm thinking of selling my 2000s to get a pair of those.
They do make hardstyle like this!
hey man i really like your videos but i find alot of djing hip hop (which is what i do mostly) is quite different, so can you make a tutorial for hip hop dj's
Nice vid dude! Learned some new things :)
Love your vids!
@nowisnever i agree. trance please!
could you do a video on how to mix hardstyle with house? There are some moments within hardstyle tracks that seems that they can mix with house.
Thank You for this wonderful Video!
Right CDJ is: Bulldozer Project - Arise (Na-Goyah Remix)
that baby... ...in the background... ...IT'S LOOKING AT ME!
you got it dude!
Great tutorial ;D
Please do one on using effects on hardstyle! :)
very good + funny video J!
thanks man can you do more on hard style
Can you do a vid on that master tempo ?
It would be nice to understand it better.
Are you going to do a video on the CDJ2000 NEXUS?
like your videos, we're going to feature this one on EDM America TV today
great video
"some people will get that" i hope so, Led zeppelin fucking rules ;)
@ChiLLofMe its a collective turm not a genre term kinda like edm im a 90 raver Nd now dj hardcore was 1 style as was hard house it a generic tempo mix hh 150 bpm + hardcore 160 + and yes hard trance 145 + a tempo shift
Where can I get that table that all your gear is on? I love the layout...
Hardcore head here. Second track is some crappy hardcore, not hardstyle. Well, it's kick sounds like hardstyle and the pattern is similiar, but it looks closer to hardcore anyway. Thanks for your tips though, they are very usefull when it comes to mix hardstyle into hardcore ))
Can you do the opposite, if you're mixing a fast track on to a slow one? Just curious.
Nice players but is it worth the money?
you are a god my friend
mistah ellaskins , check 'hard with style ' or isaac's podcast (:
Where can I get that table that all your gear is on? Looking for this kind of model for ages cant find them could you tell me wich brand it is and where i can get order one (i live in the Netherlands)
Name of his console is: Light-Console XPRS". If you live in the Netherlands expect to pay a pretty penny for shipping. I myself live in the US & had to have it shipped to me straight from the UK. Shipping was almost as much as the console itself. Terrible lol but I personally didn't care cause I too love this console. Btw, they are coming out with a new "Light-console Elite" very soon. I just saw a video on it a few days ago. Looks really nice & supposedly easier to set up & tear down. The XPRS takes 2min to set up. They say the Elite can be set up in less than a min.. Both are great options but they also have slightly different looks. It'll be up to you to decide which console is for you. Good luck. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
thanx Tony luckly they also sell them her in the netherlands but still a pretty penny indeed but the shipping is free then
Ohh ok. That's great. Not having to pay for the shipping is huge. I know there expensive but it's better than paying double like I did. Lol. Let me know if you decide on going with the Elite. Im curious about that console myself & it would be nice to hear others thoughts on it. Thanks
If you have to construct your set by counting the bars of your songs, then how does the pro's do it?
Because they don't know in advance which song(or all the songs) they're gonna play at a gig. they think like: Okay now i will play this song and then maybe this one.
I dont understand how they do it.
I read somewhere that going above or below 3% tempo it kind of messes up the track.
love it brohammer
Your such a pro Ellaskins ;)
helped me a lot and youre funny hahah
thanks mate :)
i just realized mixing hardstyle is not easy....
is this the guy from the "Sorry" or "Real Sorry" skateboard video? The guy introducing each skateboarder? Alleyyyyy BoooYadaahh for instance
excuse me what kind of mixer are you using in the video?
great..
Just don't get things going too fast. Then you're going to make it sounds like Speedcore.
I think John should do some speedcore tuts. If only purely because you just know it's going to be hilarious.
can i also pitch the bpm to a half ore a third when the bpm speed is to much different?
Great tip! Thanx
cdj 2000nexuses? :D nice pair!!
i really like you .........
when did you start djing
hahaha just got the Led Zeppelin reference.... good shit
A good place too look for hardstyle music is hardstyle (DOT) com :)
You keep your house Ellaskins?
Very good. You know your shit :)
To non-believers - skip to around 14:30 and you'll see how good he is.
Hey dude, your hair looks like dolly 3's. respect :-)
he explained at the start that he was using hardstyle as a blanket term
