    Thank you Hannah for keeping the clip with you talking about incomplete projects and it being okey! You have no idea how much that meant, as a 30 y/o woman who wants to be you when I grow up and very much has many incomplete tasks, it meant a lot coming from you. The QUEEN of starting/finishing big ass projects that turn out amazing 💕

    I have a couple of ideas about the wall shelf. 1. I would have started the shelf to align with the left side of the window and extended it all the way to the right edge of the door frame. 2. The thickness of the side walls are very thin compared to the thickness of the horizontal shelf. I think you could do away with the side walls and just have some nice floating shelves. Or try to go back and match the thickness for both. Your dining room shelf cabinet is a great reference! 😊 Good luck!

    • @TheDeniseemily
      @TheDeniseemily 10 місяців тому +16

      I agree that the side walls are too thin and it would look better without them. I also agree that having the length go from the left edge of the window to the right edge of the door would balance it nicely. The shelves look great and does seem cozier with the added. The ladder so a wonderful touch.

      @wilhelmotto2913 10 місяців тому +10

      I agree as well about the side pieces. It boxes in the windows on top and closes off the light into the room.

    • @raniveroustraete6884
      @raniveroustraete6884 10 місяців тому +1

      Same! If the walls where thicker it would also match the window and door on each side to balance it out. I am for matching the tickness all the way x either way gonna look great. Also would have painted the ceiling or walls white lol but every Carpenter is gonna hate on that. I just dont like too much wood.

    Hey Hannah, beautiful idea!! Just a FYI: If you run the panels the other way it will be easier to cover the center of the ceiling. Another fun way to break up all the same wood is to make thicker window & door trim...add shape and color if so desired...plant shelves built into the wide trim around windows will also help house your plant collection!
    💕 😘 💕

    Am I seeing a lupin lane laptop protector?!🤫 So exciting!! I remember watching an old video wher you said that you can no longer find the link to your old book computer cover.
    Also, I think that the shelf should go all the way across. Than, the ladder could park on the right without blocking the plant and be used to hang things when not serving its original purpose.
    Love❤

    Thank you for including the unfinished project! It is so important to see an d acknowledge that not everything we do can or should turn out perfectly every time. It's great that these little mistakes aren't stopping you from keeping on with your other projects. Some unsuccessful projects, or even many unsuccessful projects, are a part of creativity.
    Also please don't fall off the ladder, sometimes it's genuinely worrying to see you balance on it! 😅

    Suggestion for cleaning glass, try Norway towels.. No sprays needed, and when you air dry them any and all bacteria is released into the air. Use hot water to clean and dry with the towel that matches. Rinse , wring out and air dry. No need to wash unless really soiled. You will have the clearest windows in the neighborhood !!! PROMISE ***

    It's great to see you have a go at building things but I wanted to warn you about your ladder. It is likely the weight of you or others standing on the rungs will break them as the screw in each end is under enormous strain. The screw pushing against the grain will cause an elongated fracture in the rung. Best to recess each rung end into the side rails by 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch and it will be 10 X stronger. Also, cut the bottom of the rails parallel to the floor and cover with thin rubber. Over time, the corners will wear a groove into your floorboards.

    The ladder is tops! I love the bright wood colour, it's a nice accent, I wouldn't stain it. The shelf is cool, although I'm not a fan of the vertical boards, they kind of box the light in from the windows. Not sure what you imagine with the bamboo but will patiently wait for the project :D A tropical vibe? All the green plants make the room a marvelous living space especially in winter.

    I just want to tell you, (long time watcher!) I am so grateful that you kept the part in where you chose to scrap the project, rather than complete it. It shows us that we are really all the same, we all want to stop sometimes when it just isnt right but that seems to be frowned upon for some reason. I think its so much better to stop something that isnt right and change it out for something, that is just so much better and true to you!

    Love your videos Hannah but that ladder scares me. One screw in the end of a dowel is dangerous ! Take it apart and drill a hole 1/2" deep for each end of the rungs ( creating asocket ). Put it back together with the screws .Ten times stronger! The way you have it now the dowel could split and you come crashing down! Take it from a 70 year old lifetime carpenter.

  • @KatjeKat86
    @KatjeKat86 10 місяців тому

    I agree with other committers who didn't like the uprights on the floating shelves but I think you could fix that with some decorative carved facing trim. The biggest thing I noticed is that you stopped the double height shelves above the glass door at an awkward spot I would have taken it all the way to the end personally and I think it could be a pretty easy tweak you add the decorative trim that you're talking about getting. Otherwise a beautiful addition to the improvements you made to the house.

    Hi Hannah this video is very encouraging in particular because not everything works at the first try. Thank you for showing that, it makes me want to start a project myself, knowing it is a process and will eventually grow and be good in the end. Something I was thinking about is the stability of the hooks on the top of the ladder. These hooks were made to carry the weight of a coat or a handbag but not to secure a ladder with a person on it, who moves around carrying books and plants. But maybe I'm worrying to much, anyway great video and I wish you a lot of fun with future projects. 🌿🍏🍁

    Just for the record, I liked the burlap look. ☺ Ooh, y'could get a pot belly stove Hannah! They are so cute. I think your decorative facing would look sweet painted olive green. This would offset the all wood look nicely 😊 I love your aesthetic.

    Glad to see I am not the only one who sings along to music and dance while doing things around the place. Makes me feel less alone or weird.

    Hi Hannah, I too had a room full of wood. First I tried hanging a lot of art on the walls,it never looked right. I ended up white washing the wood to lighten it up. Now it's much brighter.

    I like that you left in your first attempt at the ceiling it shows the reality of decoration and how worth it can be vs when to give up 👍

    So I haven't read but a few of the comments for this video and others so I am curious if anyone is commenting on your great and beautiful singing voice Hannah? I hope that I am not the only one that Loves it. I love the shelving unit that you built for that wall. As far as the ceiling goes I look at the two different materials that you put up kinda like taking different paint colors and painting spots on a wall to see which color you like on the wall. I love the idea of the bamboo on the ceiling and with the little arch that you had in it. I think that would look great on the whole ceiling with the darker stained strips of wood over the seams. I thinks it's a great way to change the color of the ceiling without having to actually paint and worry about dripping the paint on everything below it. One or two last things it was nice to see moly there which made me wonder if her boat still on your property and how is the work on her boat coming along on it? Thank you Hannah for sharing this video with us. May you have a good one. Have fun take care

    I just eat up every single clip of your sweet little mice. 🥰🥰🥰
    Also, the shelf really does add a lot of character to the room, and I like your idea of adding wooden embellishments (trim and appliqués?) to it to take it to the next level.
    Most of all, I just love your brain and how when inspiration strikes, you find a way to get it done. The upside down coat hooks were a perfect solution for the ladder!

    Could you do a run down on the power tools you use? I am going to do some DIY kitchen updates ala Hannah Lee Duggan … and will be purchasing some tools.
    I would love to hear your recommendations and also what each tool is appropriate for what job would be so helpful!
    Like … do you prefer a multi-use hammer drill or an impact drill for most of your jobs.
    What type of brad nailer do you use? Is that powerful enough to fasten 2x4’s together… or do you use wood screws for that?
    I’ve watched many tutorials on these questions but since you are my inspiration that I CAN DO IT! - I would love to hear your input!
