  • @ramprire
    @ramprire 3 роки тому +688

    Some things:
    Donnie does indeed betray them all. In an early copy of the script, it is heavily implied. Due to some editing, it's a lot more subtle. In the yacht sinking scene, Donnie half confesses but is interrupted by "the ludes".
    Secondly, he's deleting in anticipation of the FBI coming in and isn't being taken away like the others. His hands are in his head while this happens. He knows what's going on. If he wasn't in on it, he would have been yelling and screaming like the others. Now obviously in a real situation he would have already cleared his stuff before they even came, but to show him doing it before they come in shows he knew before hand: the result is the same.
    Third, the note was in their office. Not some restaurant as some people mistake. It shouldn't have gone anywhere, not even the trash can. It's probably intact because Donnie said he would take care of it: obviously, we can't confirm this, but the fact remains that the note is in pristine condition when presented.
    Also, the note itself isn't enough to incriminate Jordan. They have no proof he wrote it, nor if it was related to him at all. The only way it could be proof is if someone submitted it. The only person who could do such a thing was Donnie.
    Lastly: in real life (and in the books), the note didn't really matter. They practically let it slide.

    • @user-xl5kd6il6c
      @user-xl5kd6il6c 2 роки тому +25

      Your list makes no sense. If he was in with the FBI, he would have nothing to delete at that time, he would already have deleted it or handed it over. He was only deleting it now because he was informed by Jordan.
      If he wanted to give the note, he would have clean his shit before doing it.
      If he knew about it when Jordan told him not to incriminate himself, he would have to be a good actor to act the way he did, which would be out of character for his character. If the script writers wanted to imply he was in it, than that makes the scene terribly directed.

    Donnie ratted on Jordan long before this. The whole boat in a thunderstorm scene is pretty brilliant script writing and revealed it. Donnie makes a halfway confession, the whole thing was a ruse to catch Jordan and now Donnie feels he is being punished for betraying Jordan. The agents needed him on the phone to gather proof. Just the way Jordan compliments how he was sold the pen at the dinner they created a "sense of urgency" to sell the trap. The agents used Donnies friend suddenly making a move against Jordan financially to gather that evidence.

Watch the scene on the boat again tho and ask yourself if Donnie really is the type of person who has regrets for committing fraud, doing drugs, marrying his relative etc etc? This is similar to the diner scene in Goodfellas. They’re both the moments before betrayal. In Goodfellas, Henry feels betrayed when he realises Jimmy was sending him off to get whacked while posing as his friend leading to Henry ratting him out. Here Donnie feels betrayed about Jordan wearing a wire and hence rats him out even though Jordan was just looking out for him. It’s a neat parallel between the two films.

    Arguably the only flaw in the film is the note he passes Donnie. It doesn’t make sense. How did they get it? At first it seems maybe Donnie turned too and gave him up, but then we see him deleting records, so that doesn’t add up either. And the fed almost theatrically presents the note in a little bag as some kind of evidence.
    It does sort of ring of goodfellas where everything just wraps up in such an oddly succinct way.
