H.S.C. was one of my favorite songs when i was 6 years old when it came out. It flew right over my head, because a good song is a good song. Guess when you are that young, you just dont notice or care. I love those Rough Trade albums, and even bought her autobiography. Which was more the eye opener.
One of my all-time favourite hosts, and one of my all-time-favourite recording artists. I attended Ms. Pope's performance after she started as a solo artist back in the 1980s, here in London, Ontario, Canada, one summer at the H.A.L.O. Club (Homophile Association of London Ontario). Memories. Thank you, George, and Carol.
I loved the Strombo show! What ever happened to George? His show just disappeared... As for Carole Pope? Oh man I thought her voice was just gorgeous. Very powerful. I just heard one of her songs on a movie score and had to go listen to some more. But Highschool Confidential? I was a very straight tween when that came out but boy I thought it was so hot. Raucous. Wild. And it seems unforgettable since I followed up to this link. Cheers @CarolePope !
Carole was a true leader and a fearless performer. I knew her since 1974 and she was quite brilliant and should get her cred. Her sister is a very well known writer.
A lot of straight people actually love her, me as well. She is an icon for everyone. Or better - she is an ordinary yet intelligent woman and a great artist. Huge respect!
Yes Strombo has been doing this along time now. He use to be a VJ on the old Much Music Station when MM Actually played music. Strombo is such a cool Canuck :-) Strombo would blow your mind with his musical tastes, he once had the "Black Metal" Band "Behemoth" at his house with a bunch of fans.
carole pope!!! one of the most underrated artists ever. her new cd, 'landfall' is amazing. one of the best things she has done! so relevant and current. and ignored, unfortunately.
It's nice to see someone from the era of talent not auto tune like Carol Pope. Always liked it when her music came on, so much better than this assembly line shareholder corporate music that kids get sucked into believing has anything to do with talent. Nothing but actors acting like musicians, they don't write, they don't play half the time, they need auto-tune to be bearable at all, and when the money is gone they stop. Musicians play even when there is no money because it's what they do. They write music because they have to, but the don't pay others to write everything for them, and then a choreographer to teach them how to have any type of stage presence. I'll take real talent any day, they don't even need to make soft core porn videos to sell their music!
i never questioned, much less knew her sexuality, probably too young too care. just knew it was a great tune. gotta say, yous' sound better now, than back in the day. cheers.
Great question: did you sing for the guys in the audience or yourself? Great chat about Katy Perry trying to titillate people--much of it out there now is just that. But when we were kids listening to The New Wave as it was unfolding Rough Trade came on the scene to break rules and they did. We liked it. But it wasn't so much about sexual orientation, it was just about music. They were up there with the classic bands and the great sound that only lasted a few years before the long hairs with synthesizers took over. It was Rough Trade, Joe Jackson, The Police, Blondie, Naked Eyes, Split Enz, Devo, and The Clash--among many others. Cheers!
+Wulf Nabban Ethell Anglo-Saxon It was about the music, and Rough Trade were true artists. And I am glad that a lot of people "got it", but for me, growing up gay at the time, hearing the stuff the band was singing about ON THE RADIO or on MuchMusic made me feel so much less alone. Gays were basically jokes in the media, or loathed, and here is Carole singing about a high school crush with another girl like it was no big deal. And at least in Canada, no one thought it was a big deal. They just liked the song.
@@Basileus84 For me, it was hearing the lyrics to Crimes of Passion AND seeing the video. I was particularly awestruck upon realizing the egalitarian segment-inclusion of a gay-based crime of passion featuring the characters of, "Johnny" and "Eddie"...Then the surprise appearance of "Vinny". Revealing anything more, would be spoiling the temptation to see the video...And, the song and video are SO INCLUSIVE that they inspire proud re-visitation.
I remember the High School Confidential song on a Canadian compilation record, and in retrospect, it's just not extraordinary. listened to a bit of Landfall, and it is just not great.
Hello Carole! 🎉🥰🙋♂️
Love Strombo! He needs to come back!

Incredible voice.
I just really like that song.

I adore Carole! I knew she liked girls way back in the day, but loved her anyway and always hoped....! 🙂

From the get go, she is simply a good singer, writer and performer with an interesting voice.
I like this interviewer, he's actually talking and interested.

Carole is brilliant. Love her and her work, but damn....she sounds like Meryl Streep when she talks!!
Otto Von Schöen omg she does
Landfall is an amazing album! That and PJ Harvey were the best releases by female artists in the past 5 yrs.

@@aidanstafford318 Actually, the entire album that came from is excellent. I love every song on it.
Normally I like this Strombo as an interviewer, but he dropped the ball a few times on this one.
love
I like the middle finger at 305
Do you know Blondie ? No! 😆
shez jaded
Britney or Katie are magnitudes of greatness above you, Carol. Please don’t compare you to them…
