Thanks for being one of the few reviewers who isn't an unofficial member of the Hasbro marketing team, I can't even justify buying their figures anymore I just watch the reviews to support the channel

Bro i started tracking down boxed raimi figures from the first movie. the retro spiderman figures from hasbro are 60+ australian. not worth it anymore. if i'm going to pay alot of money for figures, might aswell buy ones i like.

A guy telling you, "It's great they finally made this character, I think it's really good," what information do you get from that? That some dude on the internet likes a toy? How does that help you make an informed decision about this product?
Anthony puts aside any opinions he has about the characters and goes over objective elements with the figures, he analyzes and explains the issues and how they could be better.
As far as I'm concerned, those other reviewers are man children, getting excited and telling their viewers that the newest Bucky Cap repaint is a great figure.

"A kid in cosplay with a tick on his back" - man, I love your sense of humor. What you find humor in, then articulate it, makes your videos entertaining to watch. Even though the subject is nothing less than an infant's toy. The disassociation between want the fans want and the character design/selection group from Hasbro, has never been wider (dare I say a Chasm 'ahem nod to Ben Reilly'). I don't spend ML money expecting a "premium" action figure. Yet, with these egregious Hasbro prices approaching the "premium" action figure level, and for what is received? It is criminal.
They said in the interview with Shart that the hand deco on Spider-Man costs so much that they have to limit them LMAO!
Sounds like a bullshit excuse, especially on a figure like this that is just paint and a new head. Hasbro just being cheap

velocity suit doesn't have the webbing on his hands yet he has no extras so i'm calling bs, i love that suit so it's really annoying that he doesn't have any
I understand that painting weblines on a blank sculpt is hard (not my problem tho) and that's why sculpted lines would be so much easier to paint. A black wash and it's done !

Anthony hit the nail on the head. All of these other reviewers keep shilling for hasbro. They are too expensive for what you get. Now, i don't understand how other lines within harbro (power rangers, GI joe, starwars, etc.) Are way better than marvel legends and the ML team's excuse is they pump out 100+ figures a year to complete teams... why not make less and make them look great?
I loved when shartimus was interviewing the team at SDCC last week and they said that, for example, we could produce 100 figures using the different body molds and such in our library, or we could produce fewer, like 30, that have all of the bells and whistles and the new molds and shart just cuts em off like "yeah, do that!" lmao
I got disagree with the star wars. I'd say they are the absolute worst. Next is legends. But they don't pay licensing fee for Joe's or rangers. Which is why they can add more to them figures.

I think the figure is based on Patrick Gleason's art who did the Beyond storyline pretty regularly but they fumbled by not using his art on the packaging

I could accept the inaccuracies, even the weird head. But damn is Hasbro a penny pincher. As you said they already have the molds for those hands, it would cost them literally cents to include them, and even with the complete set of hands this figure would be lacking accessories.
Oh man……I use to not quite agree all the way with your take on figure reviews and being “too harsh”……but it’s just literally calling them out for giving us not what is worth. Good stuff man! Appreciate the takes and calling it is what it is.

Same here, but as quality has dipped, prices have skyrocketed, and accessories have disappeared, I agree with Anthony more and more. I mean even the nija Electra figure : great sculpt, sod all paint and scant accessories.
I think though Mcfarlane figures suffer from issues, I think the way they do the double ball pegs for connecting the heads on the neck are the one thing they do really well imo
The funny thing about McFarlane is that their figures have a way better articulation scheme than Hasbro's Marvel Legends, but it feels like they sculpt the figures without taking the articulation into account and it ends up being useless, lol.

I have the shf uzumaki naruto (kid version) for the same price with a tons of accessories, really nice box, and character accuracy is like 90% if not 100%. it's like a steal tbh. I watched your review there and I'm glad I did buy it.
Mine is on its way! Totally agree with you! You get pretty much all u need for an action figure! Except the fly stand but thats ok... now with Marvel legends! Thats a SCAM.. for that price and amount of inacuracies at least they should pack those things with all the hands every spiderman should have plus one Unmasked head!
@@mrcrowley1992 Agree. Now, Im very picky on Marvel legends because there are alot of figure on par with ML price that gives more value like jada toys street fighter, neca Dungeons and dragons, some marvel select, and SHF. I'm just buying ML now because it's a marvel characters.

I'm not sure if they got the big Mark Bagley eyes right. (My favorite Spider-man artists).
I think the pizza Spidey got the eye's closer to Mark's Spider-man.
The pearl eyes work for me. In the comic, the eyes are mirrored.
This is a good compromise for the people who like metal, and the ones who like white.

I love that they have given us one of the best spiderman molds (out of what they’ve provided) and dont even use it for spiderman. I got the miles morales figure from the new game coming out, still one of hasbros best. I just don’t understand why some characters get more love than others. Weve seen well done headsculpts that at least resemble the art and decent coloring. Why is hasbro going so down hill
The Hasbro apologists should look at McFarlane toys, they’re cheaper and almost every figure has a unique sculpt. Plus they are a larger scale so use more plastic in general
Just picked this up on clearance for $12 at Target and tbh the articulating is good. Could've had more hands and some affects, but pretty good Spiderman. Glad I snagged one.
If the only compliment you have for the figure is articulation, and not how the figure actually looks, that’s how you know you have bought a overpriced happy meal toy and not a display item.

Thank you for this review. I wasn't going to buy this at full price personally, but i was luckily enough to get it on clearance for $12 at my local Target.
The weird head was the first thing I noticed when they announced this figure. It makes it look like a kid. When they draw Spider-Man in an extra juvenile look, that's how they draw the head, but it has no business looking like that on this figure smh
As soon as I saw this wave on shelves I was eager to go home and watch you absolutely tear into it. Good stuff.

I think it’s blue just because there’s more blue than black but you could make the argument that if the spider symbol is black and it connects to the non-red parts than they should be black.
Don't mean to be a Hasbro apologist, but this looks like the reveal our for Ben Reilly in the Spider-Man beyond storyline. Like cool, the head looks like a particular artist drawing of Ben Reilly from the Spider-Man beyond story and all, but like they still messed it up, cuz he was clearly a red and blue outfit, and forgot the like black bars that are on his hands.

Why isn't the retro spider-man buck isn't on this list? Easy.
1. The ball peg is place much too low in the neck.
2. Because of that, it offers FAR less range than it potentially has
3. Instead of retooling the neck joint into better one, they put a big notch in the back of its neck. This alone is LAZY toy design in regards to articulation design.

Ill be honest, I really do like the design and the figure, and my favorite part is the massive eyes. My problem is the head isn't big enough for the massive eyes. I do agree that the accessories are a rip-off, and we should get way more for $26.
This design is from the most recent run that’s actually ongoing at the moment. It’s Zeb Wells run, that actually sucks at the moment. It started with Ben and then he went crazy and now it of course follows Peter. It’s from the Amazing Spider-Man.
No, the tick has very heroic proportions.
It's kinda like Spider-Man 2099's suit, it's actually black, but it's portrayed as blue due to the lighting in the comics
I think its blue, but I prefer the black tbh. And honestly. A sculpt is a sculpt. It wouldn’t cost any more or any less to not sculpt the head correctly. And wtf is the cockroach on his back??????
They've been reusing those Spider-Man hands for about 8 years and they still couldn't throw in a complete set?
I bought the figure because i likedhow he looks. I thought the off center symbol and black/red combo looks neat. I might return him to Amazon.
I recently got the classic mafex spider-man and the issues with it are so minor in comparison that I don't think I can go back now. Mafex showed off a 2099 prototype and I'm ready to throw money at it. This hasbro shit has gotten stupid.
Same man. I recently replaced my ML Storm with the Mafex version and there’s just no comparison. It looks closer to the source material, poses better, and has more accessories. I have the new Black Widow coming in this week and that will be my last Marvel Legends. Going only Mafex for my Marvel characters. I’ll go Diamond Select too depending on the character. Legends are just not fun to buy anymore.
Personally I don't care about the comic accuracy and I'm keeping him moc so between the card art, his unique bug eyes, red/black look and the different Spider logo I think he looks incredibly visually appealing in package. I agree that its not a great value for $25 though

I'm going to guess a company as big as hasbro probably has distribution agreements in place with most large stores, so it might take longer than expected for the fact that these all end up on clearance now to start to have a big enough effect on Hasbro's bottom line that share holders notice and hasbro actually has to do something about the quality. Hopefully people continue to pass on these at MSRP until hasbro does something.
Anecdotal story - I used to see maybe 1 or 2 figures per wave and probably about 2-3 of that figure max from on clearance, especially when it wasn't a movie wave and now you can find entire waves on clearance at target for 12.49 and some times they have a dozen of the figure. Unless Hasbro has dramatically increased the number of figures they're shipping to each store, people are buying them significantly less.
I have seen a lot more marvel legends on clearance than I used to as well
I always thought that the black and blue thing was super simple.
It's both colours.. he just has iridescent fabric for that area of the suit.

I keep saying it but Jada (the new kids on the block action figure wise have mastered articulation. Hasbro still can't make a Spider-Man figure do the splits.
Skimping on accessories is inexcusable when they have the moulds. Again Jada's Street Fighter figs get two (complete sets) of hands, two heads and effect pieces, often with a support stand for the effect.
I've only been buying Hasbro's stuff: Legends, Classified, Black Series if I can get them at a serious discount. Then only the newer beter sculpted figs.
Sadly this is the reasons why I cherry pick M.L Spider-Man figures now and have been going import with my Spidey figures, like Mafex for example, yeah they got bad Q.C issues in regards to paint but at least they make it worth the money. M.L just keeps getting expensive with less stuff
Great review as always Anthony! I'm glad you're taking some time to show the packaging off. As far as the red-blue/red-black debate, I think that the figure matches the source material. As far as I remember, Marco Checchetto designed this outfit, and in his original illustration (he doesn't do comcbooky shading) the colour's clearly black. Btw, that head shape, my god looks awful. I have no clue how they passed this.
Q of the Day Part One. I say blue with the spider logo in black. Q of the day Part Two: White all the way. If the character isn’t wearing metal, I don’t want to see metallic paints. Seems like that would be common sense, but not in Action Figure Land. I think the key error here is letting the size of the eyes drive the rest of the sculpt. You make the eyes fit the sculpt, not the sculpt fit the eyes. This will be a pass. Hard to believe this figure and Elektra Daredevil are from the same company, much less the same line and the same wave.
Being a Hasbro fan is a lot like being in an abusive relationship: They show you they can do better and be better to encourage you to stick around, but then they go back to their ways. Hasbro releasing these minimum effort releases is a joke when other companies can do so much more for the same price if not less.
Part of me wants to think this here is meant to be for MOC collectors only, but there's two issues: The packaging doesn't ring any nostalgic bells and the figure is butt ugly, literally no reason to get this except clearance, and even then I'd say wait it out.

The head shape is based on how he was drawn by one of the artists. Why hasbro didn't source the same artwork for the blister is beyond me. SMH.
This entire wave was Hasbro slapping collectors in the face and telling them to deal with it.

I think this suit in the comics is 100% meant to be blue and it is a really big turn off for this figure that they literally just made him the wrong colour
What I don’t understand is why do the Gi joe figures look so much better and have more accessories for less money when most of the marvel legends lately are re-used parts and little to no accessories?
What Hasbro has said is since GI Joe is their own IP, they don't have to pay any licensing fees to make them, unlike Marvel. Hasbro and their fans like to use that as an excuse as to why Marvel Legends has a smaller budget and worse figures.
In reality, I think Hasbro puts their better sculptors and designers to work on GI Joe and puts their lesser employees on Marvel Legends.
Regardless of whether that's true or not, it's BS seeing 2 lines by the same company having drastic differences in quality
@@chewymew yea it’s almost like the lines are made by two different companies with how much more gets put into the Gi joe line, but I buy the Gi joes too so I’m happy that at least so far they are great figures
I sometimes wonder if the Hasbro Marvel team is trying to kill the line. I can't imagine being a creative person and having to design 15 Spiderman figures a year. Even if I was getting paid for it, that sounds like being stuck in hell. Unfortunately for them, collectors keep buying the line, though I can't really figure out why. Besides maybe 10 figures a year, the line is mediocre at best.
I know Hasbro's Power Ranger team sabotaged the Lightning collection.
If they're not including more than 2 extra hands, they should at least be a matching pair
I don't keep up with Marvel Legends, but when this video started I just assumed this must be in a BAF wave because this looks like a classic Hasbro "throw in a turd, but make it have a BAF part" filler fig in a wave. I'm shocked at the hubris on display here that they actually think this will sell as-is. The interviews they give at conventions are so worthless because they're just PR spin, but even so, I really want someone to ask them about how they settle on images for the packages. Given that they're a big operation and work with a licensor that is probably more controlling than some, I would not be shocked if Hasbro decides on what images to source for the design of the figure, but someone else is making an entirely different determination on what goes on the box (be it a Hasbro person or Marvel itself sending the image they want) because that seems like the only explanation for how this figure would get an almost spherical head vs what's presented on the box. Or, it's just a bad sculpt and whoever is in charge just approves whatever the sculptor submits without much care which is certainly very possible based on some of the garbage they put out.

Its head is so dang weird, the picture on the card has a normal Spider-Man head, why did they sculpt it like that?

I was tempted to get him and tarantula, but then I realized $25 plus tax wasn’t worth it for a figure that comes with no accessories (Tarantula) and one that only comes with 2 (Ben). I know they have the molds for three sets of hands (open, fisted, and karate chop hands), so why don’t they use them? Not giving a Spider-Man character a ton of hands is a crime. Jada Toys is proof you can make a quality figure for $25 with incredible sculpt, nice amount of accessories, and great paint variation.

I like the bug eyes. He's supposed to look freaky,and it emotes by tilting the head.
I came across this entire wave at Target. I saw this and the price and passed so quick. I'm not paying full price for this goofy looking figure. Even on clearance I'm still passing.
I like Ben Reilly’s design from the comics, this is my first Marvel Legends figure. I was hoping we get two of the thwip hands and wall crawling hands with maybe one web accessory.
Regardless of the quality of the figure I hate the asymmetrical design.

I have Spider-Man figures from 20 years ago that are light years ahead of this garbage on aesthetics and articulation. Hasbro is the 3rd biggest toy company on the planet and this is the best they can do!? Companies like Jada toys and Neca prove that the price point has nothing to do with it. Pull your thumb out Hasbro and employ people who actually care about the product and know how to produce well executed figures.

I kinda like the pearl eyes. Otherwise woof what a soap drop of a figure. All the issues would cost the same price to do right as to do wrong. Accurate webs isnt any more applications, you gotta sculpt and mold the head anyway, its this type of result that highlights a dgaf attitude.
This was one of my newest marvel legends but I had to return it bc the paint was mildly chipped and the eyes were WAY TOO off centered and then when I exchanged it I was wondering if I should get the chasm or the same one but I really wanted the same one bc I’m known for collecting the suits but I just think the chasm figure is better I would rate the figure a 7.2 out of 10
Kinda stopped getting Marvel Legends. There are a few i want but im holding out till there are sales. There are some up coming figures i want just to piece them out with my older ones to make them look better. I want that up coming bishop figure for the body hopefully the head from the last one will fit on that one.
I have two of these, replaced both heads n painted one blue, it made the figure a bit better, but what i did with the original heads is get some bendy wire n make them into balloons basically for my figures, kinda funny
also no i am not finna defend hasbro, yea i bought their product but i made it worth my purchase, does it help the case no. originally i bought it for the feet for my amazing fantasy spidey but got bored, hasbro needs to stop being greedy n do their fuckin job right n make good choices.

They already gave us a blue one, I love that this one is black and actually think it looks better. The head shape is funky, but kinda works here and I really do like the big pearl eyes. It's not perfect, but this attitude in the comments that Hasbro hates them and wants to slap their mother is a bit extra.
I understand there's a balance, but you simultaneously get the "they're all the same!" followed by complaints that it's too different.
i saw this figure at my local toy store and thought "oh hey that is a decent spiderman" but then after looking at it for so long, it became worse and worse in every part of the body, especially the head.
This figure looks so bad that even my 7 year old didn’t want to add him to our Spider-Man collection
I honestly believe the design complaints are actually due to the characters design from the comic art. The box art is different than the comic art, I believe.

I like the black color. The front logo paint is pretty well aligned with different pieces but I wish it was all comic accurate (missing the shoulder lines).
A good point is it has no flimsy joints or legs (happened to me way too many times recently)! The bare minimum ends up being good with Hasbro these days.
The bughead is great for certain photo angles but he does look weird in neutral stance or 80% of the time.
The pearly white in the eyes is nice.
Not a great figure when they could have done a great job by just adding hands, two stripes of paint and body articulation.
