Shanghai, the driver of Chinese commerce and the wealthiest city in China. Also, a very cool city for travelers. It is very modern, some cool sites, and amazing food, but there are a few things you won't like, the prices, the crowded subway and it may be the only place in China where you worry about your wallet.
But it is an amazing city and one of our favorite cities to visit in Asia and of Course China.

    Our Equipment
We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here
Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

Shanghai is the safest place in China.... And it is really expensive to be honest, without compromising the quality of food and stay, its gonna cost as much as HK and Singapore....

I went in Sept 2013, and trust me, he was not being stared at. I am a 6 foot tall black man; let me tell you. That was STARING. Everywhere I went people were taking pics and wanted to take pics (those who overcame their awe) with me. I really enjoyed it and hope to go back one day.

Great post! I visited Shanghai three weeks ago and loved it. The people are friendly. The food is super delicious. The metro is a great way to get around. Yes, it is crowded and will have to get used to being pushed around, but it is not rude, it is a matter of space. I highly recommend visiting.

I started to write something but was cut off. I lived in Shanghai for 12 years and loved every minute of it.I left Shanghai in 1949 and never had the chance to go back because of lack of funds. : ( Maybe if I am lucky I might still be able to visit. Hopefully maybe one day. I am 90 yrs. old so not much of a chance ...........

I'm from Shanghai, and what you said is true, people here is a little less friendly in Shanghai. Largely because many Shanghainese, especially the older generation think that they are the upper class in China. It's is largely due to the glorious history of Shanghai when Shanghai was the largest city in far east (larger than Tokyo). And Shanghai has been the most modern and advanced city in China. So locals would sometimes look down on non-locals. But the younger generation is doing better because Shanghai is being more open and more and more non-locals are coming and mixing. So the barrier I believe is fading.

Shanghai was amazing!!! The city has a very young and unique feel to it.. The nightlife was great and I felt very safe traveling solo more so than I have ever felt during my trips to Chicago.. Not to mention, its also very cheap and affordable!
