Really enjoy your videos, retired farmer who used to raise hogs, interesting to hear how the dairy farms operate. You do a very good job in presenting yourself and explaining what you are doing. Good to see a young man doing this.
There is no such thing as a 9-5 job on a Dairy Farm. Farmers are in my humble opinion the hardest working people I know. I grew up on a Thousand acre Grade A Dairy Farm. We were up every morning at 5:00 and often did not get to bed until midnight, especially during the summer months, when you had haying, and all the other crops to get planted, seeded and harvested. There is NO day off, if your sick you still have those chores that must get done. Now that I am a grandmother, I look at these videos and become homesick. I miss our Family Farm, when your a young farmer and you get the idea to settle down, make sure its with someone who grew up the same way. Our family farm is no more, it's just so hard to imagine. I am glad you are out there and putting in ALL of that Physical Effort to make the lives of so many others enjoyable. ((((((hugs))))) and thank you.
I've been off work stuck at home sick the last 2 days and I've gotta say, I've discovered your channel last week and have absolutely binged on them last 2 days. Crazy addicting videos. and farming ones at that! thank you for the effort you put into these!
As always Eric. a very informative and educational video. People really don't realize, or appreciate just how much work goes into Dairy Farming. Take care and stay safe.
Nice editing at the end. To say “improves the comfort of the cows” and then to show a cow being comforted. I really enjoyed watching it a number of times.
Thanks for another great dairy vlog, you and Jan are my favorite dairymen and I love Seth too! Eric i only hit the like button because there’s no love button yet, I love your channel and the way you care for your animals!
Omg !!! I never knew how much work there is in a farm or ranch . I being born in a small town south of San Antonio Texas. I am a country boy but born in a small town Poteet, Texas . Some of my friends were born out in the country they would always say they had a lot to do b for they came to school every morning. Now I know how much work some of them had OMG there’s a lot to do on a farm or ranch !!! My hat goes off to sir !!!! Ur always working don’t know how u do it ? I guess u hav to b born on a farm as big as u all’s. Wow !!!!! God Bless u n ur family n b safe n most of all b careful!!!! 🙏🏻👍🏼
Hey, I'm from Germany 😊 I am 22 years old and work on my own as a hoof trimmer. I enjoy being around cows and working with them. Obviously the work style in the US is a lot different compared to Germany. If you have some time I'd fly to Pennsylvania and work with you for about 3 to 4 weeks. Basically I want to make the experience and all I need is a bed and 3 meals per day. If you're interested I'd love to hear from you! Greetings from the Baltic sea 🐄🐄🌊
Yea -- in a way I agree--- after all the field work, and scraping and hauling and spreading manure.... anybody not looking at everything---might think the milk is a by-product.
I used to call farms all over the US to pre-sell concrete grooving jobs. I was always amazed at how many dairy farmers already knew about the process but didn't have a contact.
Awwwe....happy cows, good milk production. A dairy farm is w0rk, a beef & cow/calf herd is work as well, for some embedded focus & guidance through our teen years my folks would send us to my uncle's dairy farm for a week, 1200 head to milk....a nice change, however, I was always glad to be back on the home farm with a better appreciation for curfews & farm rules. God bless you & your cows.
Just wondering if you had a few fire hoses set up in the main walking areas so say once a week you could hose them down, would that help towards your foot care issues? Mind you that’s probably adding to your work load great videos have been binge watching and now subscribed watching from the uk .
The slated floor looks far better than alley scrapers and trough scrapers into a agitator . When we were still milking we had Houle alley scrapers that dumped into troughs running horizontal of the feed alley and the freestalls and dumped into a pit that had an agitator and then pumped out to the liquid manure tank .
Hey dude I love your videos I would have a suggestion, you could do some t-shirt or hoodie I would love to support you even if it’s super expensive and I’m sure a lot of people would love to wear them when they work at the farm. Lot of love from Quebec🐄🌽
Yes but the real question would the HOOF G.P. Approve ... lol 😂 jk cheers and keep on keeping on ,all the hard work pays off , and I know I don’t speak for my self when I say I’m hoping to see you guys have a absolute phenomenal farming season , it’s good seeing young faces in the industry taking it serious. It’s great seeing how positive and happy your self and cole the cornstar are
Eric, you could be a CRA-SKILLIONAIRE if you could figure some additive to make cow manure smell like....strawberries...or something pleasant....cuz the 'lagoon' must put off quite an olfactory display! (I know after years, you get used to it...but MERCY!!) Job well done!
I like how your dairy is set up that a lot of the areas where manure piles up is concreted to make it easier to clean up. In what year did your family originally begin dairy farming on the property you currently farm? I bet the concrete work was done over several generations.
Do y'all ever trim the hooves of the cows, I watch I guy in Scotland that is is profession his videos are very educational. HoofGP watch him he's good. I enjoy y'alls videos keep um comin doin a great job 👍✌
MMM nothing better than soupy manure. Do you have a good sense of smell? My only contact with cow manure was slipping on a cow pie while walking down a grassy hill. It sure makes for good lubrication on the butt to make the trip down faster. I like how well you care for your cows. I am catching up on past videos and always thank you for sharing.
Interesting video as always. Is the floor you had grooved made from 1/2" steel plates? They would have to be able to support a lot of weight running the farm equipment over them. It would be fun to see how a barn is constructed when there are pits running under the floors.
Yea, the rubber for the cows to stand on is a good thing. I knew a farmer that used horses, He made a horse barn with solid concrete floors and put rubber mats on the concrete. During a visit He explained why he wasn't handling straw for bedding, He told me He kept horses on that floor all winter, on the rubber mats and did not have any foot problems because of the rubber. He knew a lot and liked the rubber mats. His farm was North of you in upstate NY (Aurora) along Cayuga Lake where it gets colder. You already found out the same thing, the cows like the rubber, more comfort for there feet.
Those flip over water tanks in your slat barn are cool. What brand are they and what are they called ? I have never seen ones like that before until recently.
Hello Eric I come from Brazil and I work in a grain farm there! I am in America right now doing tourism and I will go to Philadelphia. I wonder if we could meet. I am a huge fan, so are my friends back in Brazil. If you have some time, please let me know
I'd like to see how the conveyor belt system really works .the one at the heffer farm used for distributing the food.u spoke of slots that get larger as the belt moves??
I was away from having some Holsteins or livestock of any kind and five years ago finally got a place to raise some again for beef, I realized I missed the smell. Lol I could almost smell what you were pushing. Wish I had a back scratcher like that for mine, I would probably be under it as much as they would be.
Hey Eric, did you know that UA-cam has a new algorithm that wants to do face recognition in the first 20 seconds? Or they won’t promote the channel. It was 34 seconds before we saw a recognizable face. Thought you might want to know. I like your channel. Keep up the good work.

How are you guys liking that new floor? We are looking to get some type of grooving/milling done to ours. Would you go more aggressive or less if you were to do it again?

I love that you have run/scrub brushes for them to enjoy. It was pretty cute seeing that cow at the end ❤️
Thanks for giving us the update was pretty cool to watch. Happy cows great to see the care y’all have for the cows

Thanks, very interesting. I can appreciate how much you care for your cows, I salute you.
Nice editing at the end. To say “improves the comfort of the cows” and then to show a cow being comforted. I really enjoyed watching it a number of times.
I could have watched you scrape manure into that hole for hours. I dont know why that was so satisfying.

Good to see that you guys do what you can (and spend what you can) to ensure that your cows feel comfortable.
Man, you are one hard working, focused dude. Farmers, I'm learning are the backbone of America. Stay safe.
Happy and safe cows , better production. Great job.
Want more footage of cows getting their free scratch from the auto brushes.
I’m not even into farming, cattle, or dairy. But the fact that you genuinely care about the well being of your stock made me sub.

Like that brush at the end!! Never watched you. Usually watch Tom. Enjoyed it!!
At 1:22 "There's a hole in the floor with a flip up lid..." HEY, I've got one of those too! ...In by bathroom! :-)
So satisfying to watch you scraping the manure ☺️
As usual, you take care of your cows in an exemplary way.
Another UA-cam Hero of real daily life!
Keep up the great work/video's, wish you posted every day, Much LOVE from Kentucky!!!

Dairy farming = growing grass and shoveling poop...and never getting a good night's rest.
@@jeffw8057 That is why I prefer dry stock farming

Missed your videos Very interesting to see all the work that goes into a gallon of milk
Eric, How many gallons of manure are produced to make one gallon of milk?
thanks for your care of your cows

Those cattle are so calm and at ease. Amazing ...
Great video glad you think about cows feet as a happy cow produces better👍so what do you produce more of milk or liquid muck?
Hi well yes we want our girls safe when they walk!! Nice project done. $9,000 that seems kinda pricey but everything is!! Thanks good video 😊

Yup
Glad it's not just me

I think it runs down to a lagoon or pit.
There is an 8-ft pit under them and we pump the manure out at the edges of the barn.
Did they recommend how many years that grooving is good for? Can they groove them again after the initial groove?
