Here is my new Obi-Wan Kenobi Lightsaber from Master Replicas made in 2003 when George Lucas still owned Star Wars. This is the original trilogy obi-wan Kenobi lightsaber that he fights Darth Vader with aboard the death star. This is the same lightsaber from Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, however just battle damaged and weathered. I'm lucky to add this one to my collection, and with such a low number too!

Master Replicas was the best, hands down. I still use my Luke Skywalker's Force FX lightsaber, which I bought back in 2004. The quality is still amazing to this day. I really hope to get my hands on Obi-Wan's new Force FX lightsaber, but I think Master Replicas version would be much better.
I have the Darth Vader Force FX. As far as detail, it pretty much 1-1. But certainly the FX lightsabers are not the kind you want to go swinging around with your buddy, to make duel video with. Yea sure they can take a few blocks but they are not as durable as some of the more recent builds. I had 3 Ultra sabers, and those are just awesome all around.

I got the obi-wan master replicas one when I was a kid for my birthday, but the soundbox went out on it really quickly, and I returned it to the store. They didn't have any more obi-wan sabers though, so I had to trade it for a yoda one (which I still have). I have always missed my obi-wan saber :')

Although apparantly sp sabers are going to be doing one too called the low ground which should be just as accurate. Just be warned these come empty so you'd also need to get them sent off to be installed. Cost a lot of money all together but they are more accurate.

The "finned" piece in front of the pommel, before the graflex band is the rear portion of a aircraft machine gun from WW2. The emitter is from a Rolls-Royce jet engine. The IG-88 head is part of the same aircraft engine.
Yep, to be precise:
- Rolls Royce Derwent Mk8/Mk9 jet engine balance pipe for the emitter
- WWI No.3 MK1 British rifle grenade for the forward grip
- Booster attachment from a Browning ANM2 machine gun for the rear grip

Qui Gons saber is easily my favorite. it harkens back to a time when I was just a kid and thought it was so insane that they had red activation buttons. such a departure from the OT designs. His and Obi's tpm hilts are like the quintessential prequel hilts for me. much love Theory
I would love to have Mace Windu's battle damaged LS. That Obi Wan is absolutely SICK.
The idea of combining all these elements to build these props was genius. Star Wars 1977 was something special.
The synopsis was interesting. Obi-Wan as I understand it wasn’t a master in episode 2, he was given the rank when Anakin reached Jedi Knight between 2 and 3. So in 2003, this was right for prequel Kenobi to that point. But incorrect against what we know of OT Kenobi in 4-6.
I can kind of forgive it, but you do expect the attention to detail to extend to the synopsis.
To be fair though all obi wan says in a new hope is "I was once a Jedi Knight the same as your father" i don't think he was called master until rots

@@Ulvmannsskjebne no he became a jedi Knight when he beat maul. Usually a padawan must pass the trials to become a knight but because he was the only jedi to defeat a sith in 1000 years he didn't have to.
@@Ulvmannsskjebne That's not right, defeating Maul got him promoted from Padawan to Knight. His promotion to Master happened after ATOC, and is marked by his final lightsaber design. The lightsaber he used in TPM and the copy of it he used in ATOC was the design he had until his promotion to Master, at that point he made his final design as it was customary for Jedi to create a new lightsaber upon achieving the rank of Jedi Master.
At the end, you talked about shelves. If you were to turn those cabinets into shelves, you could paint them a matte black with spray painting white stars on it. There are tutorials on how to make stars with spray paint and it looks pretty nice. then you could get a deep blue or violet led strip for back lighting on the sabers. BTW Obi-Wan's saber is my favorite. Idk if its just bias because Obi-Wan is my favorite character or not. Beautiful prop tho.

I used to check these out at a prop store in SF on Pier 39. As I too was a child in the early 2000’s these were a bit out of my price range. I really wish I had just saved up and bought one.

Master Replicas actually made 2 versions of this lightsaber. They made this one which is the "Weathered" version and then they made a pristine version called "AFBB - As First Built By" which was not seen in any films. The "AFBB" was the lowest run of any lightsabers they made with an edition size of 500. I actually have this lightsaber you're reviewing. I got mine factory new and it's number 2/2500! The clear plastic piece you see is actually the plaque holder. Master Replicas used this style of plaque holder along with the earlier type of display cases in their early runs, and then switched over to the newer style of plaque, plaque holder, and display case in mid-2003. The previous owner of your lightsaber put the plaque on the newer style of plaque holder they probably got second hand, and kept the original acrylic plaque holder wrapped up. I was also fortunate enough to pick up a sealed factory new Master Replicas Mace Windu Episode II Signature Edition lightsaber. I haven't opened it and probably won't until I have a Star Wars room. You can never have enough in your collection haha! By the way, I hope you didn't actually pay $5000 for that man, that's extremely over priced! Great video though!

Jedi Knight is a rank in the Order, yes. But Jedi Knight is also just a generic term for Jedi throughout the Galaxy. Note TPM Anakin asks Qui-Gon "You're a Jedi Knight, aren't you?" Qui-Gon doesn't go "No, I'm a Jedi Master"
I was able to build a real parts replica of it. It is easily one of the coolest things you are ever able to hold. For those wondering what the parts are:
Pommel: Armitage Shanks Sink Knob
Black fins under the control box: Browning .303 flash hider, specifically found on spitfires
control box: A bunch of pieces including a graflex clamp (the same kind, not similar to, used on Lukes Lightsaber, which was a full Graflex camera flash) a bubble strip from a TI calculator, and transistors
The actual handle and the brass thin neck: A Hales Mk3 No 1 rifle grenade, shot off the end of a rifle into trenches during WW1, not thrown.
Emitter: A Rolls Royce Derwent Mk 9 balance pipe. It helped regulate pressure in the 9 combustion chambers for the jet engine and sat in the piece that actually made both the lamp shades in the Cantina and IG88's head.
Overall cost to build one today: Around $15,000. When I built mine around 4 years ago, it was closer to what your MR cost.

8:05 That wonderful feeling when you first pull one of these collectibles out and see what you really got your hands on. I bought four pieces with some tax return money from Master Replicas back in 2006/2007, and it was the only time I've ever let myself spend that kind of money on any type of collectible. I got Anakin's saber, the Darth Vader saber they released at the time, the Han Solo blaster and a Stormtrooper rifle. The detail and quality of Master Replicas stuff is truly unique.

I remember just drooling over over the 3 lightsabers they released in this batch. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader - The Empire Strikes Back AND Obi-Wan Kenobi - A New Hope AND an extremely limited "As First Built" Obi-Wan which if I remember sold out immediately. It was a Collectors Society thing. Members had first dibs on the As First Built and they snagged them up in hours.
Damn I want a lightsaber collection so bad but they are so PRICEY. I don't even know where to start either. Would I get Anakin's saber first, or Ahsoka Tano's sabers, and if so would I get her Clone Wars sabers the shota and regular saber, which are both so cool with the green and almost yellow color scheme, or the cool asf white blades, there's of course Obi-Wan's saber...Rey's saber is pretty sweet too ngl. Being a nerd is an expensive endeavor lol.

This 5000 USD saber SW Theory is only worth that price because it's an official prop; other than that, it ain't even 99% accurate to the original ANH prop. Please check Reddit, Facebook and UA-cam and blogs and TRPF to know everything before buying.

Master Replicas made the best lightsabers ever. The Kenobi weathered from ANH has always been my most wanted. I have Kenobi's from Episodes I and III.
The part between the pommel and the clamp is from an old aircraft Browning machine gun.
The emitter is a balance pipe from a Rolls Royce jet engine.
The bubble strip on the clamp is from a TI Exactra calculator.
There are some people who have been able to source the original parts to build their sabers.

@Lightning Animations they have to leave Kenobi alone if they do another season 2 where he's off doing god knows what it really messes with the canon and what Kenobi was supposed to be doing so committed. After ep 4 I gave in and read the leaks and it only messes with canon more

I respect the fact that you are building up on your MR collection, which started with your Sidious hilt if I am not mistaken. For other people though, these are rare and very expensive (MR shut down over a decade ago). You can buy a screen accurate replica of any saber from either Korbanth, KR Sabers, the Pach Store or SP Sabers.
SP, KR, Korbanth etc I’d say are honestly more accurate. Like I’d say Roman’s static MK1 is more accurate than the MR Obi Ep4

Yes! It’s a WW1 British Rifle Grenade. The squares separated on detonation once the rifle launched it I believe it had a standard 5 second fuse the started as soon as it left the barrel. They fired a blank cartridge to propel it forward. It was a devastating design. It was the only lightsaber that utilized an actual weapon of war to make a weapon of a distinguished Jedi Master

Unsure If anyone has answered your question in regards to the clear acrylic stand but I will,Master replicas officially comes with the black stand that you currently have. from what I have learned from being in the Star Wars master replicas Facebook group is that if someone lost the black stand or it came damaged people typically end up sticking their metal plaques to the acrylic stand. Of course I could be wrong. My Sidious LE has the two black MR plaques but my maul saber only has the clear acrylic stand and both look equally as nice. Hope this helps :)

The clear acrylic “V” shaped piece was the original plaque stand. Many collectors replaced them with the newer plaque stand like the one your plaque is on.
Good news! Master Replicas is back... sort off. Under new management. I'm not sure if the quality will be the same. Still a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

That small acrylic stand was used when the plaques were just the metal ones so we would stick the plaque on there. I have several of those which were used on some of the earlier models then they transitioned Into that plastic stands. Probably with production they just included that acrylic stand. That hilt was produced in a transition phase.
$5000!!! I wish I had that laying around, that thing is a beauty. Probably my favourite lightsaber too, or at least top 5.

Fun fact, the saber Obi-Wan is using in the show is a mash up of sorts between his ROTS and ANH saber. Everything but the emitter is ROTS and the emitter (which in real life was a balance pipe off a Rolls Royce derwent jet engine) is from his ANH version of the saber. On the ANH saber, the part after the sink knob (Armitage Shanks sinks) and before the graflex band was from a machine gun from a WW2 fighter. The activator is a bubble strip from a 1970s exacta calculator. And the thin neck part after the grenade section is part of a wind vane.
Congrats on the new addition ! I was lucky enough to be able to get all the MR sabers and blasters back when they were still in that 300-500 dollar range including a number of the signature ones. The NH version is by far the most distinctive one and just oozes character by virtual of being battered and showing the hard life of a jedi's weapon over the decades. It really mirrors it's owner at that point in his life. Luke's ROTJ V2 version is also a bit beaten but not to the same level of detailing. Mostly cosmetic. SPOILER : Yoda's clone saber is REALLY not wore . Just a few scrapes but I guess MR just wanted something from the movie for him. Maul's battle damaged piece is pretty cool because it has the crystal in the end of the hilt. If you're going for the really rare one look for the As First Built Kenobi saber. It had a production run of only 500 worldwide and is the holy grail of these MR props (hand weapons any ways). I managed to get my hands on # 466 (before anyone asks NO I'm never selling mine). It's just as the name says , all pretty shiny. So a great "before" piece for comparison. Lastly, I would recommend that if you are going to continue collecting these, as I suspect you are, invest in a dedicated glass shelving setup to display them properly side-by-side on multiple levels to show off these incredible works of craftsmanship. Make sure it's heavy tempered glass and four(or more!) screw shelf brackets to support the weight ! Only had to make that mistake once with the Gentle Giant busts...

My brother and I are always collecting our jaws off the floor when we visit. Followed by tears when we see the price tags on some of these collectables. Just so epic. That might be one of the dopest sabers. The patina rub marks and wear and tear on parts of the metal is such a nice touch! So happy you are living your dream out!
