  • A unique and most beautiful arrangement of Mo Ghile Mear, performed by my uncle Liam live at the National Concert Hall in April 2014. This sublime piece of work was arranged and scored in memoriam to Seamus Heaney and dedicated to his wife Marie.
    Liam had always wanted to have Mo Ghile Mear arranged for orchestra & pipes , and thanks to the great Neil Martin, Liam had his wish met - and of course, how special it was for Liam to perform this truly stunning piece of work for his dear friend, Seamus Heaney, at his remembrance concert.
    Neil was kind enough to tell me his vision/image behind this special arrangement.
    His vision was of Seamus and his wife, Marie, being on holiday in the south of France. The gentle warm Provence air wafting through the shutters of their hotel room of a summer's afternoon, both are dozing - this is the long harp and clarinet intro.
    As the piece eases its way in on whistle, it's Marie slowly awakening and coming to the gradual realisation that Seamus has in fact passed. Her hero had gone. {Mo Ghile Mear - translated means My Hero / My Gallant Darling}
    Liam and Seamus, two of Ireland's artistic giants, were extremely close in friendship both of whom left us way too early.
    Their legacies are immeasurable.

      Wonderful arrangement of a most beautiful air, as so many of the traditional tunes are, English, Irish, Scots or Welsh. Notice I put them in Alphabetical order, these are all equally important to me! ❤ XXX

    I remember going to see Planxty many times back in the 70’s. Liam og O’Flynn was probably the best piper I have ever heard. I’m in my 70’s and have been listening to Irish music all of my life.
