I purchased this single in 1971 and this video marks the UA-cam debut of any video of BJ singing this song around the time of its release. So what you are watching here folks is historic and oh so incredible. I only wish BJ was still here to enjoy it with us.
Around the time this song came out, my mother noticed a For Sale sign in front of a house that had only recently been built, and the family who moved in had only been there for a short time. She asked a friend who lived around the corner from it why they were moving so soon and learned that the couple was getting divorced. So when I heard the line in this song about a house going up for sale because two people had tried and failed to get along, I thought of this house.
At first I couldn't remember the song, but as it went on I was able to sing along in my head. I haven't heard this song since it first came out. I never realized it was BJ Thomas.
This is a perfect example of modern oldies radio "erasing" hits. You literally NEVER hear this song on radio today, although it went to #16 on the Billboard chart. Artists like BJ that have a decent string of hits, they just play the 3 or 4 biggest ones, and ignore all the rest.
That is why I don’t listen the boring radio. I got my own vinyl collection and this song I have on a 45 rpm millennials are program directors now . That’s why radio sucks
I mean. I was listening to oldies and current hits growing up in the 70's. As a teenager in the 80's I was obsessed with the 60's and 70's. That obsession became easier in the past decade with the internet. I've found a lot of gems I've never heard before. I love me some BJ Thomas but I would not add this to my playlist.
Agreed. I been ripping CDs from the $5 bins to my hard drive for over 20 years now and I got ‘em all… including this BJ Thomas hit. I’m my own radio station now. Bye bye radio. 👋 📻
Well said!! And I am discovering some of them now!! "Everybody's Out of Town", "Another Somebody Done Somebody Worng Song", and his great cover of "Rainy Night in Georgia".
Where's Elvis? If ever a song was ever written for Elvis this is the one! How could Elvis never have recorded this song? Elvis is the only singer that could have out performed BJ here, cuz Elvis would throw in His dance moves, and slaughter it. Also, can't believe this song is not on THE BJ THOMAS Channel?
What a treat!! He had the best voice on the planet!

Another gem from this gem of a singer. B. J. was mesmerizing to watch and hear.
Wow...I totally forgot about this song...I was 11 when this came out.. I love it...thank you so much
I forgot also. What a precious brother and astounding voice
My favorite song of his. This song came out in 1971 so I assume this is one of the last episodes of Ed Sullivan
Lord we praise you
YES LORD JESUS
One of the best voice

I've got to admit that I had never heard it before although I know a couple of songs by this wonderful performer.

Wow! That was certainly an abridged version of a great song. BJ really had one of the finest voices in popular music.
Agreed!

Wow! My favorite singer, so wonderful, as always!
That aired 5 days before my mum was born January 29th 1971.. The last of ten siblings her oldest sibling was 22 ish years old than her

LOVE! 💖
Look how gorgeous he is. Oh my god

Radio completely wiped out 60s and early 70s AM pop artists. Now all you hear is classic 80s rock.

What a voice! Seeing the last video... it's amazing how his looks changed in just one year. Good song... thank you for sharing! 💖
That’s because men didn’t use hair blow dryers till about 1970 . Look how full and fluffy his hair is . Compared to his earlier appearances.
HIs look seemed to change a lot with letting his hair grow longer and longer...but, he was still a hunk!
@@barbaradunn1778 I can't say that I disagree with you. 😄

Great cover by BJ. Lynn Anderson had the first hit on it in 1970. BJ recorded it in 1971.
Apparently on this same episode BJ sings a duet of "Your Song" with Nancy Ames. I wonder if they have that in the archive.
Love this song. I know it by the Lynn Anderson version.
This is more like it. B.J. is promoting his latest release.
Az church concerts 2018
Great! any Glen Campbell clips?
I thought for a second those girls were on roller skates
It's a shame he sings a shortened version of the chorus. I prefer the full-length version.

lol...stupid song.....there is no such thing as.... a little bit of love...a bad love is not love..so it isnt better than anything....etc etc
@Jade Zee Lol, what a stupid comment.
Then why comment
Shut up
BJ didn't write the song.
