My family really loved our 2005 Eddie Bauer. It was, without a doubt, the most reliable car my family has owned. It ran perfectly until the day my brother hit black ice and rolled it down a bank. He got out with only a bruise.

This is when the Explorer really started going downhill, the previous generation was great.

Same here, hur for my parents 2002 V8 Limited. There's an explorer just like the one in the video being sold locally and I really want it. But im hesitating a bit partially because its a V6 and not a V8 which I would prefer, but mostly because I've read that these run into trans issues commonly which is not a headache I need right now..

We used to own 2003 Explorer Eddie Bauer and that was the best vehicle we've owned IMO and it was with the V8!

@@fakejeepman06 Yes, so I did end up getting this exact one back in December 2018, had 140k miles. And at about 6 months in, the crank pulley (harmonic balancer) came apart, but in a weird way. The rubber that mounts the pulley the belt rides on separated from the pulley, which just sounded like a slipping belt and didn't realize thats what it was, so that metal pulley the belt rides on slid down and grinded into the crank position sensor. I got it all fixed and good to go. Until Feb 2021, my wife called me and said it was making a weird vibrating when she reversed, and would only creep by in reverse and if she gave it more gas, the vibrating got worse. So reverse is gone, so I parked it and bought a 2013 explorer for her to drive while I wait to swap the transmission. But I have 2 other project cars in line ahead of it now.
      Tl;dr
      Crankshaft pulley sucks
Reversed failed in the transmission (common problem in this car)

I own a 2003 XLS and a 2004 XLT . Both have the 4.0 SOHC V6 . My point is that the engine on this truck in the video sounds terrible . The timing chain guides are not pressing the cassettes , which means they are either broken or need new tensioners . The chain rattle on the Ford Cologne V6 can be kept at bay by changing the hydraulic tensioners every 40,000 miles or at the first sign of this distinctive death rattle . Those parts are about $60.00 each and simply bolt directly into the cylinder heads. Both of mine have over 200,000 miles and sound fine . This trucks engine could go at any time .

Please don't buy this truck the engine timing belt will break every 100,000 miles. Please look up the issues before considering buying, you can hear the timing chain hitting the cover of the engine and it will keep getting louder till it snaps.

      Hey,
Just read your reply listen as long as your motor doesn't make a knocking noise then your fine but if you start hearing it from time to time sell ASAP. OR learn the hard way like I did I bought it like that and thought maybe it was needing a new belt tensioner and it lasted 2 years till i took to beach and by the time I got home the noise got so loud from the chain breaking a hole on the valve cover lol and it just died so I had to buy a used motor and basically down $2,000 bucks while still paying for the truck since it's financed.
